  1. Very nice. We are building quite the Chicago-area pipeline.
  2. Attacking mid it looks like?
  3. Hard way to look at it with how fluid the situation will be. 10 year patterns of the NBC/CBS/Fox conference vs. Disney/ESPN/ABC conference, then 10 years of Amazon streaming vs. Apple streaming vs. Netflix streaming conferences, and so on.
  4. ACC has ESPN/ABC. Unless you're saying the the conferences are dictated by their TV deal companies, not the traditional conference names themselves.
  5. Big Ten is getting a new media deal worth over $1B. Everyone is in except ESPN, which means NBC is also in. I bet this means Notre Dame is joining the Big Ten. MAC/CUSA/Sun Belt will probably combine at some point. AAC and Mountain West become the bridge to the Super 4 Conferences. Big 12/PAC 12 combine to survive. Add ACC, Big Ten, and SEC for the Super 4. TV deals are starting to show the map of what's going to happen.
  6. Michigan State Preseason #14, Tennessee Received Votes So did Coastal Carolina, UTSA, Wake Forest, and Army. Oh, and Texas - ranked #18, received a #1 vote. So take this with a grain of salt.
  7. Buffalo was the only MAC school to rank ahead of us (IIRC) in the transfer rankings, FWIW. BUGS can bring in all the transfers they want. They still have a coach that couldn't beat Arth.
  8. * Groce whispering in KD's ear * "Psst... Schedule us."
  9. "This week is 1st and 2nd down..." That's right, Coach! 3rd and 4th down are for teams that don't get a 1st down in 2 plays. JoeMo Ball.
  10. Junior College to D1, to another DI, to another DI after a coaching change at the last DI. Unfortunate but acceptable career path to land at Akron. Great get.
  11. Perfect. Sounds great to me. I am on board with this as long as it's done right, and Guthrie has done nothing to make me believe he wouldn't do it right. In the age of cookie-cutter, modern arenas, we should be looking to standout with an awesome college basketball atmosphere. Out of curiosity, has anyone with insider info seen any renovation numbers that show the absolute maximum capacity for the JAR with a renovation? i.e. If they connect the levels, could we get 6-7k? Is 5,500 the absolute max with more seating space, but less seats due to no more bleachers?
  12. Can you share the gist of what's said? I see the first part about Guthrie liking traditional sports venues, but the rest is behind the dreaded (and stupid) pay wall.
  13. I think non-revenue sports find their own conferences - more regional. You already have that, and it will probably only grow.
  14. AAC Members after Cincy, Houston, UCF depart... East Carolina Memphis USF SMU Temple Tulane Tulsa Wichita State UAB FAU Charlotte North Texas Rice UTSA Navy Men's Soccer & Women's Lacrosse would have a very nice boost as well with Vandy (women's lacrosse), ODU (women's lacrosse), James Madison (women's lacrosse), Florida (women's lacrosse), FIU (men's soccer), and FAU (men's soccer). Talent wise, assuming JoeMo does what we think he can do for Akron football, Akron matches up perfectly with those schools. Enrollment wise, we'd be middle of the pack. Facility wise, I'm sure we'd fit in just fine. Getting to the AAC is not a pipedream - it's what we should be striving for. As you pointed out, @akzipper, the MAC does nothing for fan excitement or national publicity.
  15. This is why you don't hire a Recruiting Coordinator at a big school as your Head Coach. Oh wait... (Looking at you, Ianello)
  16. Per On3... AAC In 2019, the 11-school league reached an agreement with ESPN on a 12-year, $1 billion deal; it started in the fall of 2020 and runs through the 2031-32 academic year. The deal averages $83.3 million per year, which means each school receives about $7 million annually. (Navy is in the league for football only; league member Wichita State does not play football.) Mid-American In 2019, the league and CBS Sports Network announced a four-year extension to televise football and basketball games through the 2022-2023 season. The deal, a four-year extension from the original agreement signed in the 2015-2016 season, is through a sublicense agreement with ESPN. The deal is worth about $8 million a year, which means each of the 12 schools receives about $600,000 annually. I don't know about you, but I'd double travel costs for 11x the amount of automatic revenue...
  17. There's only one (at the moment) - American Athletic Conference. They have a $1B TV deal with ESPN, which is the largest non P5 media deal. The MAC I believe is #2, but that might change soon. In terms of growth, the American Athletic Conference and Mountain West have been the two conferences that get picked over by the P5 conferences. The Mountain West is geographically locked, especially from us, so the American Athletic Conference is the only viable option for growth at the moment.
  18. Don't you have a going-nowhere-fast football team to worry about at Appalachian State North Campus?
  19. This is simply gorgeous. The break in the blue with the gold is a nice touch, especially with the blue A in the middle.
  20. I second this. Remember the Akron Basketball trio bobbleheads? Imagine if they did this for the 2010 National Champion team. How much fun would that be to collect?
  21. According to 247, he holds 19 offers, including UCONN, Army, BG, and UMASS. This kid is a talent. Great get. Also, our recruiting has taken a massive step in the right direction when it comes to regions. When's the last time we recruited the New England area this hard?
  22. I like the whiter wood, instead of the yellowish wood. And thank goodness we aren't going with a crazy pattern like NIU. Simple and classy. The "A" will pop.
  23. Are we sure Arth didn't do one of these himself? Would explain a lot.
  24. When you said, "Track," I thought you were referring to the track at the JAR. Boths tracks need renovated, but in completely different ways. Regarding Guthrie, I full-heartedly believe his goal is to get us out of the MAC. Upgrading the primary AND secondary facilities, a miniature rebrand with the new logo, and hiring Joe Mo - these are beyond-the-MAC moves considering how nice our football stadium already is. He's a big brain, and I'd imagine he's not one to be "content" and will look to make his mark as an AD before presumably going back to Syracuse someday. A few years of football/basketball/soccer/track & field success, plus a renovation or new basketball arena will be the ticket out of the MAC.
