  1. I think non-revenue sports find their own conferences - more regional. You already have that, and it will probably only grow.
  2. AAC Members after Cincy, Houston, UCF depart... East Carolina Memphis USF SMU Temple Tulane Tulsa Wichita State UAB FAU Charlotte North Texas Rice UTSA Navy Men's Soccer & Women's Lacrosse would have a very nice boost as well with Vandy (women's lacrosse), ODU (women's lacrosse), James Madison (women's lacrosse), Florida (women's lacrosse), FIU (men's soccer), and FAU (men's soccer). Talent wise, assuming JoeMo does what we think he can do for Akron football, Akron matches up perfectly with those schools. Enrollment wise, we'd be middle of the pack. Facility wise, I'm sure we'd fit in just fine. Getting to the AAC is not a pipedream - it's what we should be striving for. As you pointed out, @akzipper, the MAC does nothing for fan excitement or national publicity.
  3. This is why you don't hire a Recruiting Coordinator at a big school as your Head Coach. Oh wait... (Looking at you, Ianello)
  4. Per On3... AAC In 2019, the 11-school league reached an agreement with ESPN on a 12-year, $1 billion deal; it started in the fall of 2020 and runs through the 2031-32 academic year. The deal averages $83.3 million per year, which means each school receives about $7 million annually. (Navy is in the league for football only; league member Wichita State does not play football.) Mid-American In 2019, the league and CBS Sports Network announced a four-year extension to televise football and basketball games through the 2022-2023 season. The deal, a four-year extension from the original agreement signed in the 2015-2016 season, is through a sublicense agreement with ESPN. The deal is worth about $8 million a year, which means each of the 12 schools receives about $600,000 annually. I don't know about you, but I'd double travel costs for 11x the amount of automatic revenue...
  5. There's only one (at the moment) - American Athletic Conference. They have a $1B TV deal with ESPN, which is the largest non P5 media deal. The MAC I believe is #2, but that might change soon. In terms of growth, the American Athletic Conference and Mountain West have been the two conferences that get picked over by the P5 conferences. The Mountain West is geographically locked, especially from us, so the American Athletic Conference is the only viable option for growth at the moment.
  6. Don't you have a going-nowhere-fast football team to worry about at Appalachian State North Campus?
  7. This is simply gorgeous. The break in the blue with the gold is a nice touch, especially with the blue A in the middle.
  8. I second this. Remember the Akron Basketball trio bobbleheads? Imagine if they did this for the 2010 National Champion team. How much fun would that be to collect?
  9. According to 247, he holds 19 offers, including UCONN, Army, BG, and UMASS. This kid is a talent. Great get. Also, our recruiting has taken a massive step in the right direction when it comes to regions. When's the last time we recruited the New England area this hard?
  10. I like the whiter wood, instead of the yellowish wood. And thank goodness we aren't going with a crazy pattern like NIU. Simple and classy. The "A" will pop.
  11. Are we sure Arth didn't do one of these himself? Would explain a lot.
  12. When you said, "Track," I thought you were referring to the track at the JAR. Boths tracks need renovated, but in completely different ways. Regarding Guthrie, I full-heartedly believe his goal is to get us out of the MAC. Upgrading the primary AND secondary facilities, a miniature rebrand with the new logo, and hiring Joe Mo - these are beyond-the-MAC moves considering how nice our football stadium already is. He's a big brain, and I'd imagine he's not one to be "content" and will look to make his mark as an AD before presumably going back to Syracuse someday. A few years of football/basketball/soccer/track & field success, plus a renovation or new basketball arena will be the ticket out of the MAC.
  13. Big Ten & SEC holding their money as close as possible.
  14. SI's Top 100 FL Recruits Class of 2023: #68 Harlem Howard
  15. Semi off topic, but that A really is sharp and growing on me. Harlem has a nice offer list, and it should be worth noting that both Marshall and Ohio didn't make his top 7. We're beating out our main competition in the region and we haven't even played a game.
  16. St Francis - W Michigan St - L Tennessee - L Liberty - W Bowling Green - W Ohio - W Central Michigan - L Kent St - W Miami - W Eastern Mich - W Buffalo - L Northern Illinois - L 7-5. I watched inept, under-skilled, and under-sized Arth teams stay competitive in the MAC, ultimately coming up short for reasons Moorehead has already fixed (lack of coaching experience, talent, and size). I say it often: the MAC blows. Joe Mo & Co. will instantly make their presence felt. See y'all in Detroit!
  17. Considering the late game saw Akron bring in Joe Mo (which is consistent with the amount of movement in college athletics now), typical recruiting patterns no longer apply. Also, beating out Toledo and KSUcks bodes well for us.
  18. Yeah that's a big man at OLB. P5 size in the trenches and the second level.
  19. Once a Flush, always a Flush. Still could care less about this game except for it being Joe Mo's debut.
  20. Boom! Love it. Could this be part of a larger event in Philly, or an easy coast swing where we whoop some SEC butt on the way out or home? EDIT: Looks like this could be it. 2022 The Barstool Classic at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA Dates, teams and matchups are still TBD. Good luck finding additional information. There's a Reddit thread about the tournament that contains zero useful information, and the rest of a Google search is the Barstool Classic Golf tournament. I'd imagine, however, that the field will be pretty decent. Already off to a good start with the inclusion of Akron. 😉
  21. 8 of these are Disney, which covers ACC and SEC. Fox covers Big Ten, Big 12, and PAC 12 I believe. NBC has Notre Dame (for now). CBS has some SEC. None of this includes streaming brands either. Apple, Netflix, Amazon, etc. The amount of money coming into sorts is unreal.
  22. WE ARE AKRON! WE ARE AKRON! WE ARE SOCCER KINGS!
  23. SEC is reportedly done adding teams. They will be at 16 when the dust settles and are supposedly content with that. Notre Dame is the biggest name left to move. Phil Knight is reportedly making cold calls to everyone he can to find a new home for Oregon. PAC 12 is in a names war with the Big 12, using UCF, Cincy, etc. against them to diminish their Power 5 credibility. And we have Joe Mo. I love it.
  24. UNC is not leaving Duke behind, and vice versa. Clemson would be stupid to leave the ACC, and UVA is the prototypical ACC school. Notre Dame is going to join the Big Ten - that is their only option to maintain a semblance of their media rights revenue stream. There wouldn't be a single incentive for NBC to pay massive money for exclusive Notre Dame rights if Notre Dame can't schedule any Big Ten or SEC schools because Big Ten and SEC schools won't have an incentive to play any tough schools outside of their respective conference. The ACC is in an interesting spot. Their niche is being the Academic Power Conference, with private schools and academic standards galore. They also have a nice deal with Disney/ESPN that gives them a financial foundation, their basketball is top class, their football has a National Champion contender every couple of years, and they offer a higher-end level of off-brand sports like soccer and lacrosse. The PAC12 & Big12 don't have this niche. Combining into one conference and becoming the 4th Power Conference might be their only way to survive as a Power Conference.
