EMU wins by 4. 92-88. The Eagles scored 55 points in regulation. Typical Rob Murphy... I mean... errrm... Stan Heath?

Press Conference Introducing Coach Moorhead (Thursday 10 am)
Let'sGoZips94 replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips Football
That was Ken that said that. Lima is a Suckeye honk, although he did actually graduate from Ohio A&M so it's a bit more acceptable. He gives Ken all sorts of crap cause he won't root for tOSU. This interview was 100% driven by Ken, but I did appreciate after the conversation with Moorhead concluded, Lima emphasized how big of a hire this is. His Suckeyes effectively got beat twice this season by Moorhead's scheme, so he would know how good of an offensive mind Moorhead is. Well when the local media asks all of 3 questions at the introductory press conference for one of the biggest coaching hires in school history, it's not hard to figure out he might need to take matters into his own hands and get any publicity he can. Haha. -
Exactly @GP1. A lot of national/P5 talking heads bash the Transfer Portal, using the same BS talking points. "Kids are running from adversity," is probably the most common one. I think part of the bashing is how much it harms the NCAA's moneymaker - P5s.

Joe Moorhead Officially Hired as Head Football Coach

I think that's the joke @Cykron was making. However, if Cykron thought he was actually talking to Joe Moorhead, we might have another Ray Kinsella situation in the corn fields of Iowa... Ease his pain, Cykron, ease his pain... -
Joe Moorhead Officially Hired as Head Football Coach

JoeMo is on 92.3 The Fan with Ken Carman and Anthony Lima. - He was in the parking lot of Hoban during the call. His son is in 8th grade, so they're taking a look at the school. - Stressed local recruiting, but also mentioned that the staff he's building has connections all over the country. - Stated they're not going to do anything in this first signing period for recruiting. Needs time to do a roster assessment. - Brought up the 2005 Snow Bowl against PCCC. Stressed the importance of winning the Wagon Wheel. - Stressed being prepared, being ultra competitive, detail oriented, and playing for all 4 quarters. - Mentioned beating Matt Rhule's Temple program while at Fordham. Also reiterated his success at Mississippi State. The interview started and ended with our fight song. Ken was obviously fired up, and Anthony mentioned how great of a hire this is. JoeMo wrapped it up with, "This interview has me when more fired up. That's a big Go Zips!" -

1 year of eligibility remaining. Should he spend that at Akron, let's go. Build that foundation for the program under Moorhead! -
Joe Moorhead Officially Hired as Head Football Coach

Interesting. The lack of transparency when it comes to the defensive staff... does that indicate that the individuals are coaching in a bowl game(s)? Paul Rhoads was mentioned in another thread. -

Absolutely. But he was probably getting similar incentives at Oregon, plus twice the annual salary, more realistic big goals achieved (College Football Playoff/New Years Bowl Game), etc. He wants to be at Akron. We should be thrilled/hyped/etc. -

You must be a blast at parties. By the way, it takes two to tango. Instead of taking shots at the Athletic Department (for faults of previous administrations, not this current one) for making the hire of the decade(s), maybe thank Joe Moorhead for believing in Akron and wanting to be at Akron enough to take nearly a 50% pay cut. -
$1.2M. This would be the final year of Moorhead's 5 year contract, should he still be around. Looking at future schedules... 2022 is Road Trip year, with Michigan State, Tennessee, and Liberty all being desirable road trips for Akron fans. Who knows how competitive Akron will be in Moorhead's first year. 2023 could be an undefeated year. I'm only somewhat kidding, but the OOC has 4 winnable games. 2024 needs a game, still, but I like UK, South Carolina, and SJSU. 2025 is winnable so far. 2026 is winnable. Point being: under Moorhead, these schedules are aligning nicely to equal both big pay days and upset victories.

Wagon Wheel, Bowl Games, MAC Titles, Recruiting Class Rank within the MAC, etc. Those are my guesses, on top of any other non-obvious incentives. $500k for Moorhead is incredibly University-and-program-friendly. I'd imagine the plan is to allocate any additional funds to his assistants (he's clearly building one heck of a coaching staff) and the recruiting budget. Zips fans owe Moorhead their attendance and attention for wanting to come to Akron, and not raking Akron over the coals to get a HC with his experience. -

Interesting thought. OSUcks just hired their Cowboy brother's DC to the same position. Not sure what that means for Rhoads. -

He took a shot at Mississippi State (presumably for prematurely firing him) by mentioning that the Egg Bowl (Ole Miss vs. Mississippi State rivalry game) hasn't been won since his departure. I wonder if this was a slight shot at Cristobal? I don't know what their relationship is like, but I haven't heard many good things about Mario from Oregon fans. -

Does anyone have the video of Zippy beating up all the mascots and the Flash crapping an egg? I have a feeling it will be not only relevant, but accurate once again. -

When he was breaking down the 2005 MAC Championship Game play, I had chills. I'm sure that play has been a staple in his pitches to potential employers, but to remember that much detail 16 years and X amount of jobs later - amazing. -
Moorhead’s Akron Coaching Staff 2022
Let'sGoZips94 replied to akrzips2012's topic in Akron Zips Football
JoeMo said during his press conference that he will have the staff in place by the 2nd(?) of January. With him coaching Oregon's bowl game on the 29th of Dec., I wonder if there are any Oregon guys (McClendon specifically) that could be following him to join the staff. Additionally, the vast majority of bowl games will be over by that point. I wonder who else he has targeted that will be coaching in bowl games for schools not named Oregon. -

Joe Moorhead Officially Hired as Head Football Coach
Let'sGoZips94 replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips Football
As much as I want his full attention to be on Akron's program, this could be a massive benefit for us. 1A) Cristobal is gone, meaning Moorhead is free to unleash HIS offense, should he so choose. 1B) Should HIS offense light it up against Oklahoma, with Akron having already hired JoeMo, it can be used as a selling point to transfers/recruits - "look at what we could do at Akron" 2) There are 2 P5 schools involved in this game, and both programs have/will have new coaches. That means there are depth players that might be looking for their next opportunity. Enter Moorhead and Akron, with Moorhead having a mini-opportunity to build quick connections with some of these players. 3) The staff he has in place already - Ferri, Richardson, Gilbertson, Rodriguez, Fessler - can hit the ground for recruits and transfers. Ferri is a known talent when it comes to recruiting, as he produced the MAC's #1 recruiting class in 3 straight seasons ('05-07) while at Akron. I'd imagine Richardson, Gilbertson, and Rodriguez will have no trouble themselves considering their backgrounds. -
That's easy money. From Georgia... Brother is a 2022 GT commit at OL... ZG5 was a bright spot for Arth. Waiting so long before committing to him (only after 2 other QBs were hurt) exposed Arth's inability to play the best talent available.
