2021-2022 Akron Zips Basketball- Looking Forward

Sekou is LONG. -
Part of the basis of its appeal.

Guthrie has two options in my opinion... 1) Stay the course with the program, but bite the bullet on the finances and fire Arth, in hopes of the next coach actually turning this program around to a respectable, profitable level. The issue here is: you can't miss again. 2) Become P5 prostitutes. Ditch the MAC, find one P5 school a week to pay you $1M to whoop your butt, tell recruits they'll get to showcase themselves weekly against P5 schools, and get right financially. Play them enough, and you might actually win one or two games here and there, especially with the possible increase in talent if higher-level recruits like the idea of playing against P5 schools. Heck, you could even sell the idea to YouTube or something to get a media deal out of it. Not sure how the contracts work with other conferences, but I'm sure some sort of media outlet would like to show weekly P5 football on their platform. Dropping the football program altogether isn't an option, dropping to FCS isn't an option, and we can't stay on this path of digging ourselves deeper into debt. Stay the course and get it right, or turn heads and make headlines by adapting to the ever-changing college athletics landscape. Regardless, staying in a state of not being able to make necessary changes for improvement is not a viable option.

Outcoached. We were the better team, OU made adjustments, and we looked like crap the rest of the way. Injuries or not, this game should've been ours. The amount of times we put the ball on the ground in a game is alarming. That's basic fundamentals that starts with an emphasis from the coaches.

Akron is by far the better team. The early turnover in the redzone is the difference between this being a 17-3 game and a 10-3 game. Really impressed with Irons yet again, and the play-calling has been pretty solid.

Why is the camera positioned at the 25 yard line?

"You're watching College Football on ESPN. It's Akron University..." We're off to a fantastic start...

I agree they'll score. Our guards & wingers are mainly slashers/people who can get to the hoop, and we have a large front court. At some point, we're going to have to make jump shots. Who will be our shooter(s)? -

I think this will prove to be spot-freaking-on. The depth on this team is pretty incredible, considering the state of the program when Groce took over. Being able to bring Wynn, Tribble, Clarke, and Bandaogo off the bench is massive - that's two guards and a winger with solid size and experience. I think Castaneda will be the key to the team's success this year. We needed someone to replace LCJ as the floor general, and from what I've seen out of Castaneda, he's the perfect guy to do it. Biggest questions for me... 1) Does Freeman replicate last year's unbelievable individual production? 2) Do we get much-needed outside scoring from either of the incoming freshman guards - Johnson and/or Mitchell? 3) What seed will we be in the NCAA Tournament? -
Holding his arms how he is, with the biceps pressed against his sides a bit, gives a broader/bulkier/more built appearance. Love the uniforms. I feel like Akron finally figured out the right hue and combination of Blue & Gold, unlike our *gag* friends to the east that use their "gold" as a hydration level measurement (pee yellow).

We were up 7-0 on THE Ohio A&M. Obviously, that directly correlates to a blowout of the BFE Kittens. 24-3. Akron. Go Zips.
-
Going up 7-0 on the Suckeyes is a new low for tOSUcks. They should be embarrassed. We made one of their players quit. We held them to under 60. DJ Irons will be just fine in the MAC at QB. To quote Pat Shurmur... We battled... Progress...
-
We might as well not run the ball. We're not going to accomplish squat on the ground this game.
-
Nobody is stopping Henderson. That kid is a stud. I'm really impressed with our pass defense.

HOLY EFFING BRUTUS TURDS! TOUCHDOWN AKRON!
-
Ohio State sucks really bad this year.
-
To quote Carl Spackler... "Don't mind this. This is doctor's orders." Just read a scouting report on Kyle McCord. He's a pro-style QB like Joe Burrow. When he transfers out of the QB-killer OSUcks program before winning a National Title with a SEC school and getting drafted #1 overall, we can proudly say we were his first ass-whooping.

The uncalled PI/Defensive Holding in the endzone on that final play is one of the biggest screw jobs I've ever witnessed in sports. ________________________________________________________________________ May I ask a silly question? Why, as a university with all sorts of financial trouble, do we eat into the budget by going down to CBus a night early for a 7:30pm game on Saturday?
-
How many years of eligibility does Irons have after this year? I really like him. He could be a really special MAC QB if given enough time/talent around him. I like our WR corps. A nice big body would compliment them well. Our RBs run very hard. Ball security is an issue, though. Defensively, at least we have Bubba. Bottom line: this had to be a convincing win and it wasn't.

Pillow Fight of the Week next week?

3Q and Bryant is still in this game. Arth, this is embarrassing.

I heard @LZIp volunteered as tribute. I didn't know he cared so much about @Blue & Gold. Here was a live look at the courageous moment...
