A 3 pt. loss to the #16 team in the country while shooting 43% with 15 turnovers is impressive. I'm not a participation trophy person, but in the 2nd year of Groce with a 75% roster remodeling in the off-season, I'll take this loss. Well done. Played hard, belonged on the court, and quite frankly, a bucket here & there, and you win - maybe even somewhat handily.

Thomas is a force. Gotta start making our shots.

What an amazing cross and header on the 3rd goal. The first few years, Embick needed to prove that Akron wasn't just Caleb Porter, that Akron was a powerhouse that happened to be taken to the next level by Porter. Since then, he is consistently putting together strong seasons. All season I kept saying all we needed to do was get into the NCAA tournament. Well, here we are - onto the Sweet 16!
-
Our margin against similar-level opponents is way more impressive. Clemson always seems ripe for an upset. I can't wait for 11am - 1 hr 58 minutes!

What an off-season we have coming up in NEO. The Browns, Cavs, and Akron will all be looking for coaches (I hope).

I believe that's the free streaming service from Facebook. They used it to broadcast several Facebook-only MLB games this summer, including (annoyingly) multiple Indians games. It will look good on one of my monitors at work.

Game 3- Chicago State Cougars

This team is beating bad teams the way good teams are supposed to. Not saying we're a good team (yet), and we'll find out real quick on Monday where we are at, but the margins of victory thus far are a good sign. -

I was actually checking the scores for tonight to see it it would be on ESPN3 (it is by the way; my wife may have scheduled a dinner with friends during the game, but if I was able to stream the Indians game during our wedding reception, you bet I'm streaming the Zips during a random dinner), saw Copping State's name, and because I'm so used to them being on the schedule, thought that's who we played for a second. Scarred for life. -
It's the least Dambrot could do after The Chosen One pulled the wool over the public's eyes on how that school was being funded. I digress. I still don't like this. The next time Duquesne is in town, it better be to play Akron.

Long delay as the rider goalie was knocked out by his own goalie. Paramedics not on site.

Akron continues to get bigger and bigger. Should they see the success of these bigger, more athletic recruits, Akron & Buffalo will separate themselves from the MAC and many other mid-majors.
-
Not to mention they're well-coached. Totally agree that they're legit. You can just tell when they're on the same court as most MAC schools, they look levels above them in size, speed, athleticism, etc. Which is quite pathetic, and probably on Canada's bulletin board in the locker room.

Buffalo in the top 25 @ #25. Our NET is going to look good this year.

Can't really say screw the NCAA when we're having a very down year. 40th ranked team in the country. More opportunities to beat some quality opponents and prove everyone wrong!
-
Two STRONG wins to open the season, as Stony Brook has beaten both George Washington (A10) and South Carolina (SEC). Good for Jeff Boals! http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/team/_/id/2619

This is the first game of the Cayman Islands tournament - in beautiful, cold, Akron, OH. Boy, there's a trick. -

Statement game, if there is such a thing against YSU. 29 pt beatdown of an in-state team in year two of a coach with a lot of question marks to Joe Akron. Loren is the best guard we've had in a long, long, LONG time. Riak is a difference maker with his athleticism and length. Our guards/forwards are all tall and athletic, and can shoot to boot. I love it. -

A couple additional notes... - Scott Walter looked like he belonged, even as a walk-on. He's pretty heady, and didn't seem to try and do too much. I don't know how much he'll play come the regular season against DI opponents (I don't think it'll be much), but I won't be freaking out if he's in the game. - Khadim Gueye is huge. It'll be fun to see him and Riak on the floor next year. - Toles was out, but I heard pregame that he has been practicing very well. I wonder if he cracks the starting lineup when he comes back. - This team is WAY deeper than last year. Should be fun.

Dodgeball I believe. I was thinking once I saw ESPN5 "Man, did Rome transition to cornhole or something? That's a bold strategy Cotton. Let's see if it pays off."
-
A lot to like. Slow start, shots weren't falling early, Cedarville came out like a motivated DII team should and played well. Akron put it together in the second half and once the shots started falling, it was smooth sailing. The ball movement was great from the get go and I found our shot selection to be solid. Very impressed by Riak, Cheese, and Christian Jackson. Riak didn't have a great game but his fundamentals are strong for a guy his size. Good handles and strong free throw shooters. Cheese is gonna be a game changer with his ability to get inside and finish. Christian Jackson is probably the best PG we've had since Abreu. The kid has a high motor like Antino but is more under control.
-
He's out with a back injury I believe I heard pregame.
-
Wow. What happened with Hester? Shots aren't falling but the ball movement is good. Everything will get into sync.
