  1. I haven't done any research to know if this is true or not, but from people I know who have been recruited it seems to be the assistants are the ones who are more active on Twitter, doing the groundwork to connect with recruits. Head coaches might have a Twitter but not sure how active the majority are.
  2. Especially considering 7' South Carolina transfer Khadim Gueye (spelling?) is sitting out this year.
  3. Two things on Zarek... 1) It's always a good thing anytime a University of Akron degree can be flashed on social media by a pro athlete. 2) Congrats to him on the wedding, especially in finding a woman who has a protected social media account. What a rarity! Here's to a lifetime of happiness for the two of them. Dilly Dilly!
  4. I chuckled at this. "...And thirdly, they thought he would come in with a name with a little sizzle and give the program a little attention." Oddly enough, there has been more media attention surrounding Arth than I anticipated. Not sure if that's a concerted effort to market Arth and Akron football, or if Arth's connections are better than we thought (i.e. his relationship with guys like Kosar).
  5. This game is a Blue Out. Why? Easier to sell the 2700 attendance they'll announce if everyone looks like the blue empty chairbacks and blue empty bleachers. Laugh. It's good for the soul. Merry Christmas!
  6. My heart sank when I saw this thread. @YipaZip You need to be right.
  7. Last I checked, Duquesne is still offering season tickets. They also have a message board of their own. _____________________________________________________- Every single loss we have had this year is a win next year (although losing Ivey will hurt).
  8. These announcers have been unbearable. Not enough tonight. Silly mistakes, and Nevada just made more plays - so many blocks. 6 pt loss to the #6 team in the country. All of our losses are by 6 or less now. As impressive as losses can be.
  9. Not sure they'll drop very far. Anyone who watched the game saw a phenomenal game for 30-35 minutes until Howard became a man possessed. Even the announcers said that Buffalo was doing everything right, but still couldn't stop Howard. Buffalo is the real deal.
  10. Football's version of Rob Fulford.
  11. In terms of adding freshman? No. In terms of building a culture and reputation? It's a great start. With how much discussion there is about the sliminess of the recruiting process, word will get around about the breath of fresh air that is Arth's honesty and recruiting approach. That's on a personal level and can go a long way. From a schematic/system level, I think it's also a smart move. Whomever Bowden recruited to fit his system, they might not fit Arth's. Simply filling a recruiting class for the sake of completion is a bit reckless and can set the program back even further. __________________________________________________________________________________________________ Glad to hear the positive report, Captain!
  12. The MLS has something called the Homegrown Player Rule. Every MLS team has a development academy. As explained here, if the player is on the homegrown list and goes to college or one of the National Teams, they can sign with their homegrown club at any point. If other sports adopted this youth development format, would it work? Why wouldn't sports owners want their best local talent to stay local?
  13. Shall we revisit one of the several Balsy threads? Fact of the matter is, in his 13 seasons at Akron, Dambrot failed to achieve even half of what Buffalo has achieved these past 2 seasons (official national ranking and a NCAA Tourney win). He even failed to achieve what Groce did at OU in just 4 seasons (3 NCAA tourney wins, including a Sweet Sixteen). Now he's at Duquesne, putting up the same results as he did here - beating up on lesser teams only to lose the big games. And to keep this post on topic, his blow up is embarrassing.
  14. My dad and I traveled to Reno the last time the Zips played out there. Great trip - fantastic arena/atmosphere. Nevada is good. I fully expect this to be our first loss by more than 5 pts. My only wish is that we fight like Tennessee State did against us for 40 minutes.
  15. Yes, then Big School B kicks scholarship player #83 off their team to open up a scholarship for a guy that was more sought after. College football is horribly corrupt. The game itself is a superior product to the NFL, but all other aspects are nauseating.
  16. That 8-3 record looks awfully familiar. 8 wins against average/sub-par schools; 3 losses against "the names". Don't miss it.
  17. I strongly disliked soccer until the Caleb Porter years. Akron soccer represents what they call "The Beautiful Game" in its natural beauty. There is a reason that 34-pass build-up on the Stanford goal got so much attention on Twitter; it's rare for American soccer to be played like European soccer (American-style soccer is typically pump and dump like most of college, especially the Big Ten, vs. European which is more Akron-like possession). Hopefully the Rowdies get their act together next year. There was nothing like the Porter years when the Rowdies were at their best - a thousand strong on the hill reciting the goalie's entire life via his social media and giving the opponents overall hell. If you haven't already, you need to watch this video. The Tulsa game in 2010 was probably the epitome of that era atmosphere wise. It was #1 Akron vs. #2 Tulsa, Fox Sports Soccer or Fox Soccer Network (whatever it is called) televised the game nationally. Absolutely bonkers crowd with 1k+ Rowdies on the hill, fireworks prior to the game, etc. Akron won 4-0 I believe. Here are some videos from that game... Overview of "The Pouch" Prior to the Game Zips Official Recap The Sound of the Vuvuzelas I Believe That We Have Won Side note: I think Embick has taken the Akron style of soccer to the next level. I think we shoot more now, while still maintaining the patient attack. Scary to think we might be better style wise now than when we lost (officially) 1 game in 2 seasons (2009-10). I did not know that.
  18. I know peanuts compared to guys like @Zip_ME87 and @fknbuflobo, but having a left footer is huge for a balanced attack. Especially the way Akron plays and builds up their offensive attack, this kid could be a huge component. Anybody else think the ball looked small in the videos? Haha. Might see more and more kids coming to Akron from Medina, too. Their coach is Simon Spelling.
  19. Those poor kids, having football coaches chase them down to offer them $120-160k over 4 years at the age of 17/18. I understand the process can be smothering and annoying, but that's not a good enough reason to hose college programs.
  20. Which is crap. I don't understand this early signing day and why it was implemented. Bowl games are still going on, the Playoffs are yet to occur. It's stupid. Imagine if Lincoln Riley is hired by the Browns?
  21. Any idea what our recruiting budget looked like under Bowden, compared to other schools that recruit locally? I can't imagine it's fiscally responsible for a University with heavy debt to be hitting Florida before every rock/stone/pebble in their hot-bed-of-talent-backyard has been turned over. I'm glad LW and Arth are on the same page with recruiting this area.
  22. Better than both? I don't know, but I'm pretty sure the MAC finished ahead of the A10 last year, although I don't recall if that was KenPom or not.
  23. "Hey mom and dad - I don't want to go to Akron anymore. I want to go to Liberty." "Liberty? What the heck?" "Their new coach is real religious. Jesus Christ is the only one he's ever met that can hold his junk." "Who is their new coach?" "Hugh Freeze."
  24. Something cool? Yeah, sure, maybe in a wannabe-NFL-Draft sorta way - similar to the guest announcer in the 7th round who won a contest. They got Johnny Manziel's CFL teammate to do a low-rate video. Congrats. You are... Can't State. KSUcks.
