2024 Off-Season CBB Tracker & Discussion

Toledo's Dante Maddox Jr is now in the Portal amid rumors that Kowalchoke is garnering serious interest from Utah State (and probably other schools). -
Bad weekend for the underdogs. A few people I follow on social media are doing an underdogs only bet throughout the tourney, ranging from $100 to $1000 on every underdog. Great Thursday/Friday for them. Brutal Saturday/Sunday.

Which is a sign, or at least I hope a sign, that players might start thinking twice before leaving in the first place. B-tier and lower G5 talent isn't going to see the floor much at most P5s. -

Sparks back to Balls. -
Our team shop isn't open half the time but schools like Samford will mop up with creative merch like this.
-
Did not realize that was Greg McDermott - current Creighton coach and #2 all time in school wins - vs. Dana Altman - former Creighton coach and #1 all time in school wins. Wow.
-
2OT Creighton is the Creighton we got the entire game on Thursday. Oregon is going to lose in 2 OT by nearly the same margin we did in regulation. Sheesh.
-
62 pts end of regulation for the pedestrian Blue Jays. If only...
-
Alexander is missing the free-throw-line jumper that he literally did not miss the other day. This is disheartening.
-
Creighton shot 26% from 3 and 38% from the field in the first half. Comparatively, they were ~70% from 3 and 60%+ from the field at the half on Thursday. Go freaking figure.

Bill Self is a scumbag, but he hasn't made any comments like Izzo has about eliminating the mid major auto bid. Therefore, Self is on my 💩 list, but for much different reasons including but not limited to creating a pop up strip club in Fogg Allen during a preseason exhibition and copious amounts of cheating that the NCAA merely slaps him on the wrist for.

And hopefully a new jersey. Guthrie favorited my tweet suggesting that Freeman's jersey also be retired. -
Nobody watches March Madness for the 8v9 matchup. They watch it for the 13v4, 12v5, or even 15v2 upset that plagues the power conferences. The Tourney is the one time they're forced to play the pee-ons away from their home court, and it makes them incredibly vulnerable. Any P5 coach or pro-P5 article that suggests getting rid of any type of auto bids is a stain on that person, their university, conference, and the sport of college basketball. Personally, I hope Izzo visits a horse farm and falls face first into a pile of horse 💩.

A few years ago (maybe more than a few; COVID really killed all sense of time this past decade), Nevada was branded as Transfer U as they enjoyed outstanding success in March. I would love to see our athletic department and basketball team brand themselves as Commitment U or Loyalty U. We just had 2 excellent players spend their entire 5 year collegiate careers at Akron; another player came back for his 4th year at Akron after a year at a "better" school. That's unheard of in this day and age, and really what people want to see in college athletics. The majority of social media posts aren't a fan of all the movement, and any program that is able to buck that trend would instantly become a fan favorite. Knock on wood, but we have zero players in the portal so far. Imagine being able to pitch that to future recruits/transfer. -

Has nothing to do with strength/conditioning. Has everything to do with an inability to put the ball in the hoop consistently. Vs Ohio in the Semi Finals - 14 or 16 pts in the first half & 50 pts in the second half. Prime example, especially being the 2nd game in 2 days. I mean, hell, we won the MAC Tournament which is 3 games in 3 days. We need shooters/scorers. Period. -
Nearly halftime and they are having their way. Our loss to them was completely respectable. Assuming the MAC/SBC challenge continues and they do the first matchup the same way, we'll play either them or App State next season.

If this is true, Kent will pretty much only be returning Julius Rollins & Hornbeak. Kent's summer school classes are going to include "Which Number is Higher: 61 or 60", "How to Look at the Scoreboard at the End of Games", and "When Not to Foul." These are, of course, HUGE leaps above their typical summer school classes such as "Counting to 3", "ABC's: Sing With Me", and "Our Truth: Drawing Birds with Teeth." Rumor has it Pinky is frantically hitting the portal for any ladies with basketball player boyfriends and coaches who have stud sons/nephews/etc. -
With the unfortunate yet inevitable end for the 2023-24 Zips men's basketball season, we've arrived at the off-season portion of the calendar. If you want to become the next Butler/Creighton and elevate yourself out of the MAC, sure. In the meantime, this is simply a coaching staff mission: find some shooters.
