  1. yeah: "buzz around Akron today about Jim Tressel (video of campus | video of Tressel from not on campus) and we have absolutely nothing significant to report except that there has been no official announcement.... blah blah blah"
  2. Yeah, I remember last Wednesday, in the morning I read an article which said that the previous day Urban Meyer flat out denied having any discussion with OSU about a coaching job. By lunch, I was sitting in Brubakers and the news was reporting a deal was made. I am not saying that this is in any way applicable to the UA-Tressel situation, but you just cannot trust denials
  3. umad? lol, I actually agree with everything you said, but I can tell you are bitter. it's just the internet
  4. It's one thing to ask people about something, and then it's on them if a flurry starts. But when you fabricate something (even as a hoax to demonstrate how a flurry works) you are still the cause and they are the effect.
  5. Posting a false story to demonstrate it can be done is like taking a boxcutter on board a plane to show security it can be done. They wont have a sense of humor about it, and bigchief_WZIP isn't proving anything but how much of a jackass he can be
  6. cool story bro I like multiquotes. It gives responses proper context
  7. Third floor is where the Board of Trustees meets. Room 339. Why do I hear mission impossible theme?
  8. curious. very....... curious
  9. I disagree. His roles at this time is to take on consulting.... not just due to his years of expertise, knowledge of players, recruits, and coaches, and his connections there-in... but moreso because of how his future is foggy with the NCAA. He is perfect for being on, or assisting, a search committee.
  10. IF Jim Tressel is on campus, it is more likely that he is advising on how to form the search committee, or participating as a consultant to the committee. Afterall, has already taken consulting jobs since leaving OSU, so this is not at all out of his current role.
  11. Couldn't find him. I got Chris Farley, Seth Rogen, and the Gungan King though.
  12. Me neither. This is as soon as they could have it given the holiday and all. Remember guys, there isn't a single respected (ABJ, PD, Dispatch, etc.) media outlet in the state reporting Tressel is even interested in coaching Akron. The reports I believe are about him assisting in the search. Some of the media knows. But they're holding off on publishing out of concern that breaking the story prematurely would disrupt the process and cause the whole thing to be called off. You don't have to believe me. We'll all know for certain soon enough. Most members of the media will not agree to sit on information unless they are offered a deal, like getting exclusive information.
  13. Freudian slip? Freud's wife's negligee was negligible! I don't know if I subscribe to the idea that Tressel has legions of fans around the state. OSU has (had?) legions of fans who latched on to a winner. Tressel was the figurehead of that juggernaut (and it's mastermind?). Those who felt Tressel was responsible for what went wrong at OSU are probably not fans of Tressel. However, I think they are in the minority, and most (whether right or wrong) felt Tressel was the victim of things he never did with willful intent, and would LOVE to see him get redemption by succeeding elsewhere (as long as it's not an OSU rival). However, I think that most of those people would simply take an interest in what he is doing by following it in the news.... not by attending zip's games or buying zips merchandise. What I think Tressel offers to UA is N.E.Ohio coverage from the media, and interest from the frontrunners (who are a mob) if the winning starts. Context bias is everything. RI getting 7 wins would have been lauded by the existing fans, but Tressel getting 7 wins will be called a "miracle turnaround by a genius" and there will be butts in the seats but I don't think those butts will belong to the OSU type Tressel fans
  14. Here is the problem I have. last time It was easy for me. I knew Brookhart didn't elevate the program, and after so many years (particularly after 4 when he had all his how recruits) of no progress, the detractors were going to win their case. Now it's harder. The downside before as was big as the upside, and it all depended on who came here. As you now see, the downside won out last time. But we now have varying degrees of upside. I don't see it getting much worse. Each candidate either does a little bit better than status quo, or much better. The problem is scale. You can't get stuck in it. Now, I ask, who as the biggest upside? This is easy. What we have learned, if anything, is that the downside of no change is guaranteed clauses. Tressel has the highest reward potential. The only risk is being stuck with him after 3 years of limited progress. This is where contracts come in. Sign him to a regressive pay scale, backloaded with incentives. If he is what we think he is, then he will sign on the dotted line, and the rest will be history legacy and he will be rewarded for it
  15. Great post JZ84. I'd just like to focus on this little bit. We have learned in the past year that Tressel was a fake and fraud as it relates to his campaign to be the most honorable person in America. He can't afford to come to Akron and be exposed as a fake and fraud as a coach. He'll never take the chance. Tressel won a boatload of games at OSU with three MAC schools per year and a cake Big Ten schedule. He routinely got his butt kicked against OOC BCS teams. There is no scheduling to hide behind at Akron. He can't take the risk of being exposed. One thing Tressel isn't is a risk taker and Akron is a huge risk for him. I've never said that Tressel couldn't win at Akron. There just isn't any evidence to show he can win without breaking NCAA rules. I don't want to risk him not being able to win without breaking rules at Akron. If he doesn't break rules and loses, we are screwed. If he breaks rules, wins and gets caught, we are screwed. If he doesn't break rules and wins, which there is no proof of, we win. We have a 2 in 3 chance of losing with this guy. No thanks. People need to think with their heads and not with their hearts. C'mon now Keener, let's be serious. Sure, he said the opposite in the previous sentence, but claiming a coach can't win without cheating is claiming a coach can't win. I guessif you are actually worried about can't win (a single game) then we actually do have farther to fall from where we are now. heh.
  16. Thank you! Sounds like what I said days ago. I would just add that he isn't going to have a hard time getting endorsement deals with NE Ohio auto dealers and ad agencies. Not that he needs those, but they supplement things rather nicely. Greater Akron Area. I like the sound of that. After all, Akron is central to what used to be referred to the greater cleveland area, AKA northeast Ohio. Nay? Not on point, as I did not grow up in Akron and have no such chip on my shoulder. Still, geographically, it holds true as a population center of gravity sort of thing. On point: the other intangible that Tressel brings is that sordid Cleveland media attention thing that we've been griping about for years. Even if at first it's only an afterthought type of report in the sports section of the paper or broadcast, but still every week you get an "oh yeah, and in Akron, Tressel..........."
  17. Are you positive it was a grin or was he simply laughing at you? Exactly! Never trust a cat. They are so Captain Kangaroo-esque
  18. The phone system couldn't even handle all the calls after the announcement was made. Infocision could have it's phonelines contracted out to take the ticket orders, and they would be overrun
  19. would that make us hipocrites? I didn't hate tressel, but often I agreed with the "tresselball" criticism. He sometimes seemed too conservative for the level of talent he was playing with. I wonder of that field position style of low risk wear-your-enemy-down philosophy would work here? The reaction would be to say no. That you have be wild and creative. Maybe that mindset gets you in trouble at any level?
  20. You jest, but I believe you are right. As I said, OSU (as I suspect many other big football schools) have a subculture near to their football programs that worship everything about those programs and who are looking for clever ways to do favors for players. They know not only that you have to hide it from outsiders, but you even have to hide it from most of the insiders in the program. You just don't have that here.
  21. Didn't the same thing get said about Ianello? The example has been set by Rob. Recruiting here is not the same as recruiting at Notre Dame. Same would probably be true for Tressel. Recruiting here is no the same as at OSU. One exception though; He would probably recruit Ohio well because of his reputation (even if tarnished a bit) and his connections. Was Tressel a "cheater"? I don't know where it is, but someone on here made a great post about what he did wrong, but nothing he did was cheating, particularly on the field. It appears that there was a subculture trying to get things for some of the players, and Tressel didn't reign it in. Did he know and turn a blind eye or was he truly oblivious and poorly motivated to acknowledge the problem when the signs surfaced? Either way, it's bad in the eyes of the NCAA, and he is the man to take the blame, but was he "cheating"?
  22. Yeah, he'll be missing those players (and more) if he comes here. I don't agree that it's an excuse. We need someone who gets the most out of who he's got.
  23. LOL! I know it's really really unfair to pull this back up now (necropost)... but it wasn't my idea. I looked at the currently online users and saw a guest looking at this thread. The above quoted post stands out to me as a way of demonstrating changing perspectives. Oh how much different 27-32 looks now. Not saying it's something to strive for or praise. I just think a lot of people felt there was no risk in changing. heh
  24. If he gets another job, which he will, we only pay the difference. He's not gonna sit on his ass for three years and collect a paycheck, otherwise he'll never get back in. We'll only end up eating a very small fraction of this contract. small fraction? With the last two years on his resume, who is going to pay him a large fraction of what he currently gets?
  25. I remember that. Not just the statements, but also the context. The motivating thought: "Some may be excited by change, but we are threatened by lost ticket sales and fan interest if it looks like we are giving up and starting over. Hence, we must reassure (propagandize) that the immediate future will not appear dismal." I remember that's what I thought at the time. I wanted to just say "oh shut up and get to work." I was hoping that it was true, but that was just hope. I felt like things would probably stay the same or get slightly worse for a year, then trend upward....... IF, Ianello was who he was billed to be. Even though I wasn't a fan of the move, I didn't think at the time that the wagon wheels would completely fly off and everything thing would be a disaster a year later. ... and yes, they probably called it "marketing" in their meetings, but it was propaganda, and the propaganda this year was that setbacks were expected as a apart of the plan. Now... after two years.... there is no way to spin it. It's far far far too sh1tastic to propagandize. The only thing they can say is "we don't want to make the mistake of starting over yet again", which no matter which way you say it, is an admission that everything you said before was complete BS
