  1. It's not to suggest that money is his only motivating force in life. However, since a gig now at Akron probably wouldn't garner a paycheck as large as he has had in the past before everything came down, there are reasons that it is better to take a job here than somewhere outside of Ohio. That was my only point. I have already mentioned the non-monentary reasons for him going to Akron. Destiny (back to where he started coaching) Karma (redemption at reviving what by record seems like the deadest D1 program over the last several years). cage match: rubber chicken vs. flying pig My fivespot is on the zipmeister's flying pig. Sorry GP1, though I'm sure your rubber chicken is quite resilient.
  2. That's what I was talking about when his name got mentioned months ago. The "redemption" factor. How good would he look if he turned around the most ailing program around, and right here in Ohio, and back at a school where he started coaching. It almost has that karma-destiny thing going. Also for him, he gets the chance to do endorsements and make money from ads and putting his name on things. Where else besides a major Ohio media market can he walk right in and start making money like that? A lot of places seem to have a problem with OSU, from even before the scandal stuff broke, they always thought OSU was overrated. He's not going to make a lot of money with his name outside of this state like he could here. For the university, what do you get? Butts in the seats! Instantly. Newspaper coverage. Attention from the columbus faithful (not sure what that's worth, but yeah)
  3. It doesn't matter what you have done, it only matters what you will do. Tressel has no history of success beyond lying and cheating. Where is the evidence that lacking lying and cheating he will win at Akron? Again, he did NOTHING that had an impact on th game. Kids sold their personnal stuff and got other free things from people outside of the program (as is pretty much tradition at every other program in the country) NOTHING, I repeat, NOTHING JT did had any effect on the game it's self. He didn't pay any kid to come to OSU, he didn't shoot kids up with roids, he didn't steal the other teams playbook, he didn't film the other teams practice. Let it go dude. Haters are going to hate. He has the most BCS wins of any coach yet they talk about his record in big games. Enough said right there. I wish our problem was we couldn't beat the USC, Texas, or the SEC in big games.
  4. id say yes for 1 year. if he mucks up the next hire, he better be on the way out the door too Are you serious? Is medical marijuana now legal in Ohio? Was there some Lot 9, 100 keg tailgate that no one told me about? HELL NO he gets no mulligan. If Wistercill is within 500 miles of the upcoming football coach search committe my projectile vomit will be sufficient to block the sun's rays for 1,000 years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cretaceous%E2...xtinction_event My thoughts as well. I was surprised by the phrase "released from contract". That seems to contradict what I have heard round here that R.I. will continue to get paid even if he doesn't coach. "Released" is the same word I remember being used with JD, and the University had to pay him for the remaining time on the contract. ahh, okay. That word threw me. I guess he gets released from his obligations, but the university is still held to it's obligations.

  6. I believe JD Brookhart was very crafty at scheming up ways of winning or at least competing in the face of talent deficits. So, on a one game vote, I definitely take him. Could he build up a program progressively? History doesn't seem to support it.
  7. For those who are unfamiliar with drumcorps, if you enjoy listening to good live marching bands, then you will probably enjoy this a lot. These drumcorps are seriously tight (though at the start of the season they might be a bit rough around the edges) and make most college halftime shows look and sound completely lame. BTW, I am not a band geek, and I'm sure some band geeks will make the point that a drumcorp is different than a marching band. That stuff is above me.
  8. Even though I might be older than you, I am also responsible for pioneering at least one internet meme (before they were called memes) and having at least one thing go viral (before they were called "going viral"). I'd say I have a bit of cred. My bet is on fizzle. And a few thousand members to a FB group may not seem like fizzle to you, but I'd say it could be ignored rather easily.
  9. I think it's okay as an outlet to vent as long as people don't get personal. But, I'm not convinced it will have the smallest iota of influence (as a petition or anything else).
  10. The two in Copley were great. I think they actually reduce backups at what were stop signs and allows everything to flow. I'm not really convinced that the new roundabout at Smith Rd and Riverview Rd (near Merrimen Valley) was necessary. Still kinda cool though.
  11. stop telling people what to do. 1) it doesn't work 2) just because you think you are right doesn't make you right 3) irony is fun (I just told you to stop, because you told me to stop)
  12. I'm starting to enjoy this. wow. Bad news Izips. Entertainment at it's best
  13. Who signs their checks?
  14. good call, and I was thrilled to see that Galeti didn't do one of those (soccer doesn't count) eyerolls that seems too common
  15. I've seen this sort of complaint on every forum that I have ever regularly participated in. Occasionally you do actually get some favoritism... but for the most part, it isn't favoritism as much as familiarity. "oh that's just ____ being ____". It's more like tolerance than favoritism. But also, you get the appearance of favoritism. It's deceptive. Sometimes someone strikes a nerve, and because of the response they get, they feel that it's personal. Usually it's nothing of the sort. It's just that you stumbled upon a hot button, or an overly beaten horse. Things that stand out get picked out. I feel like there is a relatively Liassez faire moderating approach here, to a degree, and I like it.
  16. blame Bushrookhart
  17. Or, he didn't want the issue to go any further so he kept himself in the dark about what was going so he could claim not to know later. It wouldn't be the first time we saw a high profile coach in the last 12 months keep himself in the dark.Obviously can't know, but I tend to think that this is the case. He made a single bureaucratic act, and went on about his business showing no real concern. It's human nature to hope/wish that something like this (which could threaten everything you do, or at the very least, cause lots of problems and headaches for your people and program) was just not true and would go away. Denial and avoidance are a common psychological defense mechanism. It's easier not to get involved with things that can threaten what you have so much invested in. Was he really turning a blind eye as if to condone it? Of course not. He really just sorta wanted to wish it away so he could keep doing those things that he felt was important. I don't think Paterno is a villain here of anything except blind selfishness. However, I also think that he is being sheltered from implicit negligence because of his age and symbolic status.
  18. Not that it's going to happen, but if Ianello could somehow beat Kènt, I will be making requests that you stay civil in expressing your frustrations toward the guy. If he is got any tricks way way way up his sleeve. He needs to pull them out.
  19. haha! I love a really hot burning rant.Great clip. Thanx for sharing it.
  20. "dominate the mac" three better words where never typed
  21. can't get any worse from here?
  22. lol...but then again, how much of the following would be happening on this board if Can't managed to bring in Tressel?
  23. Very sad if true, although I'm not sure "victim" applies here. Put me in this camp. Personally, I think anyone should be able to check out any time they chose. But if you do it to yourself, then the only way that you are a "victim" is if you are also the perpetrator. heh.
