...even still, YSU would probably have beaten Akron this year in football. Maybe even rather badly. ...and they have won championships, and I'm sure it's something to be proud of. To be honest, I am sure being at the top of the FCS is more fun than being at the bottom of FBS. Still, it's the FCS, so yeah. ... all that said, I don't see any reason to degrade the Youngstown area because of a few classless fans on a board. I hear people rip on the Youngstown area all the time. Do we really need to go there? I'm sure they've heard it all before. Nothing you say on the internet is going to change their opinion. Relax

PD Article: Terry Bowden talks Urban Meyer
zen replied to scottditzen's topic in Akron Zips Football
I agree with this. More kids playing football in NE Ohio read this article about Urban Meyer than would have if it was just about Bowden, yet the article put Bowden in the light of a bigtime/primetime football coach whose opinion on other coaches matters and who turns around programs big and small. In other words, recruiting in NE Ohio (for what that's worth) was most certainly not hurt by this article. We aren't competing for OSU talent. We just need to better-than-MAC talent. ...and to be honest, when I read that chip-on-shoulder comment below the PD article, I was a little embarrassed. It makes Akron fans look like crybabies. Our program was the worst in football over the last two years. We have no entitlement to favorable coverage. Respect is earned. However, I appreciate the fact that everyone is free to express their opinion. -
Perhaps "dream team" is too much, but certainly an A-list coaching staff. I know that we all wouldn't want to expect too much for the first year and have high hopes for the years to follow, but I think that next year will be the most interesting. To witness what a contrast there might be in coaching, and to see what can be done before the current staff have their recruiting and program development pan out in years later. I guess what I am saying is, it will be intriguing to see what coaching by itself can do before a change in talent level on the field enters the equation. How many games will we win next year?

Unbelievable. You realize, this is a University Campus, right? Students! Ever hear of them? When I first came on U.A. campus when I was in HS, it was to visit some friends who were already going there, and to do some bar hopping later (sshhhh). Back then, there was no campus. Yes, they may have called it a "campus" at the time, I don't know, but it was city streets. If it weren't for a couple barricades, you could drive right up to the front door of Bierce Library. Now when I started looking at other schools in the state, the differences were stark. Miami in particular had a very pretty old east coast college appeal, or that's how I perceived it. Personally, I love the Coleman Commons plan. It mostly finishes what the original buchtel commons did for the campus.

Millions of non-pot smoking, unproductive malcontents go to work every day. What does that have to do with making pot legal? I can't have a debate with you because I am not supporting it. I'm just telling you why. Think about it.

guys, really? I need to make this brief. Feel free to disregard. Alcohol, by comparison, for all it's dangers and ill effects, does not turn people into unproductive malcontents. THC will never be legal.

Terry Bowden: Why Did No One Else Want Him?
zen replied to Dave in Green's topic in Akron Zips Football
This is a better read than any article I have read today related to Bowden -
Here's an interesting quote also. "According to the source, Bowden reached out to Akron." If that's true, that I believe we have a winner who will not flag or falter. Any man who can look at Akron's dismal situation and see opportunity MUST believe in himself. He didn't just come here just to take a job.

$221,493 and I promise to give back 10,000 after every loss

I don't think he was joking... Perhaps joke isn't he right word. The writer was using Tom as a sarcastic board off of which he could bounce his criticism of the COI, without explicitly directing criticism AT the counsil on infractions. It's a rhetorical backhandedness. If anything, it really pokes fun and insults the idea of Tressel coaching at Akron

Cap, that example is 45 bad decisions. Ok. Jim shot one kid. maybe he only fired one shot?

Is Ron Paul an "isolationist", or is it that he is a "non-interventionalist" who appears to be isolationist compared to all the interventionist politicians we have? America! Fkkk Yeah! Go world police! right?

Nah. I heard that Can't State will be rejecting our bid to become their Akron Campus. They simply don't have the money to support us. I hear they scored a much bigger gain by obtaining the Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, which will be transformed to their summit county campus. We simply aren't good enough for Can't. Aim Lower please

"aim low" shall be our new moniker

I guess they don't exist then. it's all a figment of your imaginations

If no one produces any proof, then there is no point over rehashing it. I just always find it funny how some people are so quick and serious about squelching some topics. During the bus trip on Monday to WVU, I asked several UA employees, who spent the whole afternoon at the JAR, whether Tressel was at the JAR on Saturday. All of them said that JT was absolutely Not there Saturday. It's okay by me if he wasn't. I was excited about the Tressel thing, but I'm past it now. I'm just pointing out how the article by that paper is a new topic to discuss. Reacting with the as if this was some unsolicited resurrection of a dead topic is obviously a blatant reaction fueled by a desire to censor.

Hello. You may want it to go away, but there is a reason that it is being discussed again. It's not rehashing. Get off your high horse about dead horses

"his actions" Can you be more specific?

Rushing into a big mistake = 2 to 5 years of bad football Making the right decision patiently = early setbacks that can be overcome

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I have been a fan of american football since I was 10 years old. I doubt anything would ever replace the deeply ingrained involvement I developed for football, but that is just me, and I could easily see Soccer growing in my sports world. Right now, you can find football all over the TV on saturdays and sundays. Soccer is something you have to search for. That is an advantage that will go away some day. And I am just a generation. It may take a few generations, but I could see soccer on the top of the heap in the U.S. eventually.

here's your expanded seating. move the football team out to first energy field

lul, I also suggested that his current consulting roles made him a good candidate for helping with this search process. ...but I still think that if they are in the negotiation process (IE wheeling and dealing about numbers), they are going to deny deny deny just like Meyer did.... but I hate to say that because I really think it's better that some of these people on here have their hopes dashed. They're going nuts with this stuff

I'm not saying it's "impossible", but I prefer to look at it this way: Try to imagine how much amusement we would all be getting if the Kênt boards were all a flutter about them getting Tressel as their next coach. lol, yeah. You know we'd be rolling. In the immortal words of Lloyd Christmas "So you're telling me there's a chance!"

Some of these are reasons why I was saying even last week before this became a thing that Tressel should consider taking a job like Akron's. There is so much potential for him. It would be completely different outside this state. And UA could probably gain so much from it that it might be worth his pricetag. However, none of that was ever intended to imply that he would ever likely do it. I was just making a case for why it would seem to work out all the way around. He has one risk... and that risk is that he can't right the ship that is currently a lead dirigible known as Akron football. Everything else is alllll opportunity
