  1. We'd be foolish not to play a gimme each year. I just wish it was our first game of the year & could serve like a scrimmage. High school & NFL get to scrimmage. I can't figure out why college teams can't.
  2. The Beacon Journal's headline for the K.ent game reads: "College Basketball / Kent State 80, Miami 83 (OT): Golden Flashes beat RedHawks, keep hopes alive for bye in MAC tournament." Can't the Beacon Journal at least pretend they care? But I'm going to bet they have some more great all-things-Cleveland coverage today.
  3. Shout out to Just a Blog for pointing out TJ's offer. T.J. Moss, 3-star 2G, 6-4, 180, Findlay Prep in Henderson, NV (though he is originally from Memphis) TJ Moss 247Sports Rated a 4-star player by ESPN. Great offer list Rivals dot com lists him as a 3-star PG
  4. ABJ: Zips coach John Groce looks to ease key players' minutes as regular season winds down The team is showing a great attitude in this article. Though they haven't been winning, Coach Groce is blaming himself for playing Utomi, Ivey & Duvivier too many minutes, while the players are taking responsibility upon themselves to be more productive while on the court & not complaining about playing too many minutes. No fingers being pointed, or, I guess, everyone pointing at the man in the mirror. I like it.
  5. In this ABJ article, Bowden states Amato's had been contemplating retirement for 2-3 weeks Bowden’s defensive staff has been together for years, so Amato’s retirement means Bowden must find a defensive coordinator. As for any possible changes in scheme, he said it’s too soon to say. “We’ve got nine starters back on defense,” Bowden said. “You don’t want to mess it up.”
  6. Gonna be a lot of competition at RB this year.
  7. Where do you see this, Hilltopper?
  8. Especially Patton. He's scared to shoot the ball. Wish he'd just let it fly. He needs to loosen up.
  9. HOLY SH!!!!T!!! Look at Bubba Arslanian equating 605 pounds. According to the tweet Bubba weighs 218.
  10. I concur with Jackie Windon, that second half Miami played to win and the Zips played not to lose. The Zips, as Jackie put it, "were playing east-to-west."
  11. Akron Beacon: UA President Wilson is finalist for top job at University of Central Florida One of four finalists.
  12. Looks like they've got Michael Traylor-Bennet working out at WR
  13. tim Weaver, OT/DT, 6-5, 285, Saucon Valley HS, Hellertown, PA
  14. I was a bit concerned about playing NIU a mere 5 days after traveling to Mount Pleasant to face CMU. But that turn-around is not nearly as tough as the turn-around NIU has. They play at BYU a mere 5 days before coming to Akron. Hopefully the Huskies will be a little worn out & flat.
  15. Excellent news! Adding a 3-star LB & 2 DL (Jest being a 300-pounder). Jean-Baptiste's highlight show him playing DE (he can really move for a man his size!), but at 270-pounds, he could also play some much-needed DT.
  16. Tonight on ZipsLive Coach Groce reiterated that he's been happy with our effort over the last 4 games.
  17. Only 5 home games.
  18. Both our games against BUGS were nail-biters. BUGS seems to have a mental block against us. There's no way that team should lose to our depleted, young roster. They've got A LOT of firepower on that team: Frye Turner Lillard Koch Wiggins There's no way they should be losing to our young squad with one player over 6-6
  19. For next year's ('19) recruiting class we already have three commitments - and all players from Florida. So I don't think we have to worry about Bowden & Co. pulling out of the Sunshine State. (See post #1 in the "2019 Recruiting" thread.) However, for '19 we have also offered a LB from Cincinnati, Jarred Uran (La Salle). IIRC we haven't done much (any?) recruiting of southern Ohio since Bowden's been here. So maybe this is in response to this new initiative?
  20. I got home with about 10 minutes left in the game & he didn't see the floor. Did he play at all tonight?
  21. Sadly, I agree with Clark. This Akron Beacon game day story reminded me that when we beat BUGS, at home, on Cotton's last-second shot, Sayles contributed 14 points and 4 rebounds. I believe Demajeo Wiggins and Derek Koch will have their way with us tonight.
