  2. Glad you're having, ZIPSMOM2! Kwan is a pleasure to watch! From today's ABJ: The Cheatham difference: Kwan Cheatham’s status was uncertain heading into the game, yet he gutted it out and gave the Zips 19 minutes and was effective, Dambrot noticed. “I think the one thing that’s really noticeable is with Kwan Cheatham and without Kwan Cheatham. It’s huge having that second defender at the rim and not playing that 6-6, 6-7 guy,” he said. “We got [19] minutes out of him. He got five points, five rebounds, three assists and two blocks. That’s a good day at the office for a guy that didn’t practice.” http://www.ohio.com/blogs/ua-zips/university-of-akron-zips-blog-1.277207/points-to-ponder-in-the-akron-zips-67-50-win-over-the-bowling-green-falcons-1.558649
  3. Someone... someone... SOMEONE at UA just has to be working on getting funding together. The City of Akron. Summit County. The University of Akron. LeBron. -Nike -McDonald's -Coca-Cola FirstEnergy. FirstMerit. Goodyear. Diebold. The funds just have to be out there for a 8-10,000 seat arena. Especially if we are willing to drop $30 million on a JAR renovation project. Here is a list of N.E.O. Fortune 1000 companies. http://www.ohio.com/news/top-stories/northeast-ohio-companies-on-fortune-500-list-1.147984
  4. I've always enjoyed seeing the life-size pictures of players. You can stand next to them & get a feel of how huge these guys really are. When you're sitting in the bleachers & everyone out on the floor is 6'8, it can be difficult to tell how huge those players really are. The Q also has pedestals with basketballs painted with the handprints of various players. Again, it just lets you appreciate the size of the players.
  5. I think that what ZippyMan is saying is that, at this point in time, if we draw a line in the sand, no one will be Zips fans. Joe Akron will stick with the Buckeyes. I loathe OSU, but I don't let all of my friends in on that, because they've been raised OSU fans & have been their whole lives & if I draw a line in the sand with them they're going to stick on OSU's side. And why shouldn't they - they've been OSU fans their whole lives, and OSU is fun to root for - unlike the Zips. Makes me sick, but people love to associate with a winner. I'm a long-suffering Zips fan, but there aren't too many people who are willing to go through the suffering that we on ZN.O are willing to bear. But I digress. The UA Athletics Department officially endorsing Ohio State was a true kick in the balls to long-suffering and loyal Zips fans.
  6. Very discouraging. OSU is our competition in each and every conceivable way. What's bad for OSU is good for Akron. What's good for OSU is bad for Akron. It's all quite simple, really.
  7. Article from Cleveland.com on STVM's victory over Cleveland Central Catholic. Josh Williams video included. http://highschoolsports.cleveland.com/news/article/8875344678705745465/inside-no-3-st-vincent-st-mary-boys-basketballs-78-69-win-over-no-2-central-catholic-top-plays-stats-reaction-video/
  8. Joshua scores 28 in STVM's win over Mansfield Senior. http://www.ohio.com/sports/prep-stats/high-school-scores-summaries-and-schedules-jan-10-1.557312 Right now Josh is on pace to being named Ohio's Mr. Basketball.
  9. Right! How'd I so quickly forget Jalen Hudson?!
  10. Darius Carter - Wichita State Larry Nance Jr. - Wyoming ...both seniors :/
  11. http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/akron-men-s-basketball-team-looking-to-put-the-squeeze-on-juice-brown-1.556567 Nice pre-game article from GT. Talks a lot about tonight's intriguing PG matchup - Robotham/Jackson -vs- Juice.
  12. Toledo's good, cocky, and athletic. We're going to have our hands full tonight.
  13. Does anyone know if Jimond is practicing with the team? (If greyshirts are able?) If so, how does he look? I can't wait to add both Jimond and Joshua Williams to our back court next year. Just absolutely filthy.
  14. Just watched a replay of the Toledo -v- CMU game. Both Toledo & CMU are much more athletic than WMU was. I don't see us dominating either of them defensively like we were able to do with WMU - or at least to that degree. Hope I'm wrong, of course.
  15. I think we should go into the lion's den twice a year. Firstly, it'd be two $$ games and we need more $$. Secondly, and most importantly, the soccer team regularly plays, and beats, Columbus, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Maryland, etc. If we want Joe A. to take us seriously, we have to schedule and beat the B1G boys. I don't want a Miami Redhawks type schedule. Just two per year. Not asking for the moon. We went to Penn State this year. I respect that. Now add one more.
  16. I love the energy & athleticism Aaron & BJ both bring. I'm still high on last night's team D.
  17. From today's ABJ. Both from GT. One article, one blog entry. http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/akron-zips-prove-too-much-for-western-michigan-broncos-win-72-52-1.555914 http://www.ohio.com/blogs/ua-zips/university-of-akron-zips-blog-1.277207/points-to-ponder-akron-zips-beat-western-michigan-72-52-1.555945
  18. Last night, in a battle of two of Ohio's top teams, Josh scored 29 points in STVM's 78-69 win over Cleveland Central Catholic. http://www.ohio.com/sports/prep-stats/high-school-scores-summaries-and-schedules-jan-6-1.555895
  19. Loved it! The coaching staff has worked hard to put together a 10-man roster. Now let's use it! Everyone was playing with such energy and aggressiveness on D - leaving it all on the floor - it looked like WMU didn't know what hit 'em.
  20. ^^Ditto. Well done! Video was smooth and Steve & Joe were synched with the video feed. I had a meeting till 6:30 but rushed home to watch & really enjoyed the quality feed.
  21. Agreed. I also like the valley, but I think we've really got to try and support downtown.
  22. Thought this was interesting. I coach a 4-5th grade basketball team. We have 10 kids on the team. At Monday's practice, during the mid-practice huddle, talk turned to the national championship game. 4 of the kids are sports-oblivious & probably don't even know what a football is, let alone who's playing in the game. However, of the remaining 6, 4 of the kids were pulling for Oregon over Columbus. I was pleasantly surprised.
  23. LOVED the 40-minutes of defensive intensity. THAT'S how we should be beating down other top MAC teams if we're "Thinking Bigger". Dominating performance.
  24. Zips just tweeted starting lineup: Robotham, Evans, Kretzer, Cheatham, Forsythe. BJ must still be hurt?
  25. On the post game show KD said BJ didn't play in the second half due to injury. I was also wondering about his lack of PT.
