The 2015 Football Commitment List
Blue & Gold replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Rivals.com (I know) has a S named Jason Williams from Milford Academy as a Zips' verbal. http://sports.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Jason-Williams-166996;_ylt=AueiYfnjGLWRhidOV3ntorpDPZB4 -

Just found Anthony Clark's twitter. Looks like he might be at Iowa Western CC? https://twitter.com/AnthonyClark55/with_replies -

Bump. Anyone know Clark's status? -
Who was on the floor to finish out the game? IIRC 1 senior - Nyles Evans 2 sophs - Big Dog, Kwan 2 frosh - BJ, Robo Aaron Jackson also got considerable crunch-time minutes, as did Antino. Love it.

Joshua Williams leading STVM to #6 national ranking in USA Today boy's Top 25. Peter Agba leading Greensboro Day School to a 25-0 record and a #28 USA Today national ranking. http://usatodayhss.com/rankings/expert/boys/basketball/2014/5 Peter Agba's Greensboro Day School just beat USA Today's #8 ranked Wesleyan Christian Academy - who is led by 6-10, 5-star junior Henry Giles who is being recruited by Duke. Duke's Coach K was at the game (check the photos accompanying the below linked article). Giles had 21 points while Agba had 18. http://www.news-record.com/sports/hsxtra/basketball/greensboro-day-trumps-wesleyan/article_449ec46a-a120-11e4-94ce-27dec82f7e0e.html?mode=story Btw, Agba is now listed at 6-7. We may have really found one there; I think he's going to be a beast. *Edit: Here's an article by DigitalSports.com covering the Greensboro Day -vs- Wesleyan Christian game. DigitalSports.com has Wesleyan nationally ranked at #8 while ranking Peter Agba's Greensboro Day School nationally at #16 (and Josh Williams' STVM nationally ranked at #9). http://65051.digitalsports.com/2015/01/22/north-carolina-rivalry-match-between-greensboro-day-and-wesleyan/ **Edit #2: Though Josh Williams is the team leader & a superb lead guard, STVM is really a complete team. There is a junior on the team - Henry Badley - of whom I'm sure the Zips' coaching staff is well aware and, I would assume, recruiting hard. He's a legit baller. If you're into recruiting, you'll want to keep an eye on him.

My ABJ / Ohio.com subscription is finally paying off.

Ouch. I thought he'd be a great #2 receiver if we ever had a great #1. We never had a great #1 threat with L.T. Smith. Good, but not great. I was excited to see what D'Orazio could do alongside Michael Means.

I'm glad they played the Zippy "Thriller" pre-game video Saturday night.

So I'm bringing a few friends to the CMU game tomorrow night. I'd like to take them to get a bite to eat before the game. Is The Score Bar & Grill our pre-game hang out, or what? Is it a quality place? I want my friends to be impressed with their Akron experience and since I know they're sure to be underwhelmed by the JAR...

Good call.

^^+1. I've thought for years that I would be just absolutely beside myself if I were an Ohio fan seeing all of the Ohio State cheers & "O-H-I-O" pictures.

BG @ Akron.... Buckle up, it's Orr no more
Blue & Gold replied to The Hip Zip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Glad you're having, ZIPSMOM2! Kwan is a pleasure to watch! From today's ABJ: The Cheatham difference: Kwan Cheatham’s status was uncertain heading into the game, yet he gutted it out and gave the Zips 19 minutes and was effective, Dambrot noticed. “I think the one thing that’s really noticeable is with Kwan Cheatham and without Kwan Cheatham. It’s huge having that second defender at the rim and not playing that 6-6, 6-7 guy,” he said. “We got [19] minutes out of him. He got five points, five rebounds, three assists and two blocks. That’s a good day at the office for a guy that didn’t practice.” http://www.ohio.com/blogs/ua-zips/university-of-akron-zips-blog-1.277207/points-to-ponder-in-the-akron-zips-67-50-win-over-the-bowling-green-falcons-1.558649 -
Someone... someone... SOMEONE at UA just has to be working on getting funding together. The City of Akron. Summit County. The University of Akron. LeBron. -Nike -McDonald's -Coca-Cola FirstEnergy. FirstMerit. Goodyear. Diebold. The funds just have to be out there for a 8-10,000 seat arena. Especially if we are willing to drop $30 million on a JAR renovation project. Here is a list of N.E.O. Fortune 1000 companies. http://www.ohio.com/news/top-stories/northeast-ohio-companies-on-fortune-500-list-1.147984

I've always enjoyed seeing the life-size pictures of players. You can stand next to them & get a feel of how huge these guys really are. When you're sitting in the bleachers & everyone out on the floor is 6'8, it can be difficult to tell how huge those players really are. The Q also has pedestals with basketballs painted with the handprints of various players. Again, it just lets you appreciate the size of the players.

I think that what ZippyMan is saying is that, at this point in time, if we draw a line in the sand, no one will be Zips fans. Joe Akron will stick with the Buckeyes. I loathe OSU, but I don't let all of my friends in on that, because they've been raised OSU fans & have been their whole lives & if I draw a line in the sand with them they're going to stick on OSU's side. And why shouldn't they - they've been OSU fans their whole lives, and OSU is fun to root for - unlike the Zips. Makes me sick, but people love to associate with a winner. I'm a long-suffering Zips fan, but there aren't too many people who are willing to go through the suffering that we on ZN.O are willing to bear. But I digress. The UA Athletics Department officially endorsing Ohio State was a true kick in the balls to long-suffering and loyal Zips fans.
-
Very discouraging. OSU is our competition in each and every conceivable way. What's bad for OSU is good for Akron. What's good for OSU is bad for Akron. It's all quite simple, really.

Toledo's good, cocky, and athletic. We're going to have our hands full tonight.

2014 commit: SG Jimond Ivey
Blue & Gold replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Does anyone know if Jimond is practicing with the team? (If greyshirts are able?) If so, how does he look? I can't wait to add both Jimond and Joshua Williams to our back court next year. Just absolutely filthy. -
Just watched a replay of the Toledo -v- CMU game. Both Toledo & CMU are much more athletic than WMU was. I don't see us dominating either of them defensively like we were able to do with WMU - or at least to that degree. Hope I'm wrong, of course.
