Trying to decide at this point whether to give them the satisfaction of going to the game. should I go and sit in gen admin or prove my point further by staying home and listening on the radio. I cant believe this school and frankly I'm embarrassed for them. I'm sure someone in the administration reads these boards, and to you I'd like to say this: YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF. The strides this university has made in student support, the organization of a LEGITIMATE student section, 600+ strong, and you turn around and smack them in the face. 85% of our students DONT LIVE ON CAMPUS. We live around campus, most of us pay rent, which means we live HERE and not with our families over break. Your sad attempt at making a quick buck on the backs of your students will NOT be taken lightly. And for what? A MAXIMUM of $6,560.00 if you sell ALL tickets to EVERY game to the public? We know that won't happen, so you've insulted your student support to make a couple grand at some games over break? To capitalize on a home game vs. a top 25 team? Unbelievable. At this point I'd like to urge the entire student population, AK ROWDIES or not, to boycott the athletics department. Show your support. Go to the game, but leave those lower seats empty. It's time to send a message since we clearly didnt have a chance to speak with our athletics department before the decision was made. Look for us, in our gold AK ROWDY shirts, sitting in general admission on the sideline closest to the south end of the arena. Show us your support, show the athletics department who is boss. Show them not to take us lightly!

Lots of reads on this thread. What do the rest of you think? Do the students not give an advantage to the team? Is the athletics department right in selling these seats (not good seats anyways, except for proximity to the court)? Should they assume students won't show up during break (even though only about 1/8 of akron students live in dorms that must be vacated over break)? Anyone out there?

ATTENTION ALL AK-ROWDIES, ZIPSNATIONERS AND ZIPS FANS:It'll take just ONE minute out of your day to help out the school. It has come to our attention today that the athletics department has decided to sell the student section (AK Rowdies) seats over winter break in order to make a quick buck. This includes games TUESDAY DEC 19th, FRIDAY DEC 22nd, FRIDAY DEC 29th, and THURSDAY, JAN 11th. Including what is probably the biggest game in recent school history against #20 Nevada on FRIDAY the 29th, as well as the rivalry game vs. Miami OH on JAN 11th.This is where you come in:We need EVERYONE to take one minute out of their day to call the athletics department and let them know that we want our guys to have the best chance of winning these games, and their best chance is with some loud, intimidating students 3 feet behind the basket. We need you ALL to call! Athletics director Mack Rhoades: 330-972-7080 (this will likely go to voicemail, LEAVE A MESSAGE!)Coach Dambrot/Basketball Operations: 330-972-7678 (DITTO)Ticket Office: 330-972-6920 (Someone will answer here)We need to stand up for our school and give our team the best chance to win. LET THEM KNOW YOUR OPINION!!!~MySpace Zipsnation

Level headed, fantastic observations. as usual. I didnt get to hear the commentary, but it did seem they were showing mostly UIC highlights. Was it an impartial crew? Oh, and thanks for locking that other thread.

What's with this love-fest? Doesnt YSU have a board? Didnt you just get trounced by Appy State?
-
Anyone else notice that not only did we get destroyed on the boards 45-32 (Off. 16-11), but we were out-attempted at the line 32 to 18. And they hit 78% to our 50%. Even if we would've hit the same pctg as them from the line, that makes up the 6 pt difference. What a frustrating game. Anyone else watch or listen? I was at the winking lizard in macedonia and they were very nice about putting it on 4 different tvs. I may be partial, but that officiating looked terrible. I can think of one play off hand that bothered me the most...Ced drove to the hoop strong and went up and was smacked to the ground by one of the big guys for UIC, ball bounced the rim harmlessly and to a waiting defender. No whistle, no nothing. It seems as is ced backed off the drives after that no-call. Anyone listen to the radio call? What'd they think?

Yep...twas a pic on the cover of the buchtellite a couple weeks ago, poking fun at our felon occupant and stick-ups south of exchange.

Talk about dropping a few rungs...UM to 1AA. Shows you a little bit about this kid's confidence and character if he's willing to go to a division II team just for a freebie starting job rather than fight for a spot on a real team.

Caesars has Akron (-1)

6pm...according to www.vegas.com the Zips are the underdog. No point line listed yet, but UIC listed as favorite with a total money line of -110. Hmmm...looks like it'll be UIC (-2 to -4)

Mods...is there any way we could make this thread sticky so that we can keep tabs on any stadium rumors and not have to search this thing out?
-
I actually like this idea and would be willing to try it out for the St. Francis game. Maybe you should post a new thread cuz this one seems to have gotten lost on the bottom. I will, however, be sitting with the rowdies for nevada. I'll do my best to not use profain language.

Bardo and Sweich plus J Wood...even "transition" years are looking good. can we dream of twin towers? That could be dominating, especially in the MAC
-
Yeah, as someone who commutes to said plaza feet away (target), I am doubly against this abomination. The last thing I want it to have to drive through that mess with the possibility of having to deal with a stadium crowd of over 1,500 people (we all know that's about all they'd draw). Hopefully our state legislature is intelligent enough to realize the value in an urban center to one of the state's largest universities. Oh wait, this is the same state legislature that has deprived funding of higher education so badly over the last 8 years that tuition has risen about 60%. Hmmmm...well I guess we can all just hope...

Heard on WKDD news on the way to work this morning that Wolstein was attempting to push funding legislation through the Ohio senate before they break for holiday next week. Is it possible that this could be pushed through without a vote?

Ugh. No wonder those down there are sleeping. apparently one has to tap the retirement fund to get a good seat. Is it $500/year or $500 one time shebang and then you can continue to buy them?
-
First off... Next.... I'd like to invite anyone else that is a student and will be graduating after this semester or in the spring, like yours truly, to join me and some friends who are planning on buying up a few season tickets in the lower reserved areas. I think we could maybe breathe some life into those folks starting next year and perhaps begin the "next generation" of zips fans. Ones that cheer. That's CHEER, not golf clap, and stand up occasionally after a good run or before an important possesion. Things are gonna change in the JAR and I'd like to start it next year. And $225 isn't all that expensive to see 12-15 games and get a ticket to the tournament. GO ZIPS!!!!Oh, if you're interested, contact me via AIM or PM on here. So far I've got 4 for sure and about 3 maybes.

At least this was funny...probably not what they were going for. Nothing like watching coaches eyes shift from the camera to slightly below the camera and then back again.

A tough game here...This UIC squad has thwomped a decent NIU squad @ NIU by 20+ points and lost on the road to Illinois by only 5 points. This game scares me, hopefully the week to stew about the victory that was closer than it needed to be bumps up the intensity a bit for the Zips. That being said...Zips win a close one on the roadZips 72Flames 68And the second part of my little thread...gozips.com lists the game as being available on "Comcast SportsNet Chicago," which, if I'm not mistaken is now owned by Time Warner. Anyone out there have some connections in that lovely company that knows if/could get the game on one of the local flex channels? I'll be working till 4 but sure would like to join some other fans at a local watering hole to watch this one...

Hey bud. Some folks do work, 9 to 5ers even. Those hours are kinda tough. How 'bout before the mens game?

Me thinks the RPI needs to be tweaked a little bit. Toledo (2-5) is 84th and tops in the MAC according to the now up SPORTSLINE RPI. The Zips are 5-1 188th based on the 335th toughest sched out of 336. I understand rewarding teams for taking on challenging games but how can it be better for a team to be 3 games under .500 just by taking tougher games and getting beaten than to be 6-1 and have won almost all games by 15 points or more? Maybe I have a little bias here and sure I'd like to see a little tougher schedule but I wouldnt expect the Zips to be ranked 100 slots higher just for getting thwomped.

It's not really all that "unofficial" just because it's not the ap or the espn/usa today poll. This one has some cred, check out the list of coaches at the bottom of the page.
