Game # 5: vs. Bowling Green Falcons (Homecoming 2022)
RowdyZip replied to LoyalZIP's topic in Akron Zips Football
Didn't watch last week, but this start is certainly not encouraging. Someone give me a reason to be optimistic. This is just more bad football with a big name coach. -
Game # 5: vs. Bowling Green Falcons (Homecoming 2022)
RowdyZip replied to LoyalZIP's topic in Akron Zips Football
Bought my family 4 pack of seats for this one for $40. No fees, just $40. Make this an option for EVERY game! Sell more tickets, especially to people like me that have young kids. -
It's absolutely a conundrum. Remember the days of explosive offense at the Rubber Bowl under Frye and Getsy, etc? That was my beginning years of being an Akron fan. You could go and have a good time knowing we'd throw for 300-400 yards and score 35+ almost every game. Of course, our defense was a sieve and we'd often give up 35+ on the other side. In the history of Infocision Stadium (in it's 13th season, I believe), we've had mediocre offenses and terrible defenses with few exceptions, so not only did we often lose, we did it in boring fashion. This leads to pee-poor coverage by media (Cleveland.com/Plain Dealer doesn't appear to even know UA or CSU exist anymore), because who wants to click on a story and read about the Zips losing 55-3? With no coverage in media, casual fans aren't aware games are taking place so no new fans are created. The few do try out the Zips on a Saturday were often forced to leave by halftime because of awful weather and a blowout, or both. So the answer overall is simply winning. Consistently. Go 5-1 at home. Blow some teams out. Create headlines. Write the story for the mediocre ABJ coverage. Force the Plain Dealer to send a reporter instead of copying a 10th page wire story from the AP. Some will still stay home to watch on TV, especially during weekday "MACtion" 🤮. But there's no reason that if the Zips are consistently winning 7+ games that we shouldn't be able to draw 15k out of 4.5m living in NE Ohio, assuming we're not playing opposite O$U.

Game 3: Akron ZIPS @ Tennessee - Score Prediction (POLL)
RowdyZip replied to AKSportsFan's topic in Akron Zips Football
Vols by 7+ scores, especially without DJ. I'm so confident that I bought Rubber Ducks tickets to take the family Saturday night. My pick and having different plans during gametime virtually guarantees at the very least that they'll perform much better than last week. -
Where do we go to adjust our season win total expectations?
-
One click on the link from my email saved the ticket to my Google Wallet (Android user). Seems pretty nice, assuming it works this evening!
-
I called about 2 weeks ago and they told me all they had was the hoodie, shirt, and "a couple hats."

I would think Gilbert would catch on somewhere, depending on the severity of his foot injury. Is that our last active NFL rostered alum? Just in time for Joe to turn things around.

2023 Offers & Verbal Commitments
RowdyZip replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Looks like he could be a physical clone of Ali Ali. Offers from Toledo, App State, Illinois State, Valpo and a handful of low majors. Seems to be a solid kid on and off the court. Love it. -
Wasn't sure where to put this, but I just checked out gozips dot com regarding football season tickets, and there's no option to buy GA season tickets? Reserved only? We must've sold out all the GA seats, right? 😁

Basketball practice facility (and more) coming
RowdyZip replied to jupitertoo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Agree, especially if you're replacing bleachers with chairbacks. I would guess capacity would remain similar to 5,500 if it could be engineered to have a continuous bowl of chairback seating from the floor upward. The corners will always be an obnoxious sore spot because I highly doubt they could ever be engineered out without massive architecture changes. -
I prefer to use their fuller abbreviation of StFU which accurately fits how I should explain my knowledge of this FCS program. I will still be interested to see the new staff, players and turf. Oh, and football.

What is your realistic definition of a successful 2022 Season?
RowdyZip replied to GoZips86's topic in Akron Zips Football
I'm not looking for a final record to determine a successful season. For the last 3 years us fans were subject to some of the worst, non-competitive football in the history of FBS. Success to me would be competing for 4 quarters in every game. Success would be a competent team being in the game so that I want to stay past halftime, heck...even making me want to show up. Success would see our guys focused on the game and supporting each other instead of goofing around on the sidelines trailing by 4 touchdowns in the 2nd quarter. Success would be disciplined football with limited mental gaffes and stupid penalties. That being said, with all the unknowns and variables, I'd be satisfied with 4-5 wins as long as we compete. I'd be ecstatic with 6 or more. -
Funny that you say that, because I tried again and I just got off the horn with the bookstore. They only have the navy hoodie and t-shirt, and the guy I spoke too said they have "some hats." I asked about the Infocision shop and he said it's closed for the summer. I've been pumping up athletics admin for the good they've done under Mr. Guthrie, but this one is a such a big miss. The rebrand was announced just about 2 months ago, and the only available merch is a couple boring shirts? Big miss. Should've held off until the turf was almost done and then released new merch in conjunction with that. Super disappointed. Also...our AD tweeted a pic of a pretty slick navy hat. Hoping I can pop into the bookstore and grab one if they're flex-fit.
-
So looking online at the team shop, looks like the only offers for the rebrand are still a navy t-shirt or a navy hoodie with the new A logo. I tried calling them, but of course no one answered. Anyone happen to know if there's more of a selection at the bookstore or the Infocision team shop?

Class of '22 Verbal Commits
RowdyZip replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
You thought through this and still decided this would be a good thing to post about a potential student athlete. Congrats on being a foul human. -
Google says it takes 3-6 weeks to replace a natural surface with new artificial turf. I'm guessing the drainage/base is still adequate, so just replacing the "carpet" should take significantly less time. I'd imagine we'll see them start soon nonetheless.
-
It's a shame they don't have more merch ready to order at launch. I was meh at first, but I'm warming up to it. Get me some hats, shorts, and different types of hoodies to browse!
-
Agree. The more I look, the more I like it actually. I liken the situation to a lot of folks (myself included) that were bothered by the rebranding of the Aeros to the RubberDucks a few years back. And to a greater extent, the Guardians rebrand. It'll take time, but folks will come around. Change is hard.

One quick note: the press release should've included some when/where the new gear will be available. Maybe I missed it somewhere?
-
I don't love it, but I don't hate it. And I'll do exactly like they want and use it as an excuse to buy some new zips gear. Got a couple hoodies that need retired.
