Fiddlin around on ticketmaster.com...apparently the game is sold out. When I searched for one ticket of best available, the results were "No tickets were available to match your request." This is a big one, nation. Get your extra lungs out!

Thanks. Hopefully the voice returns by sunday. Got to meet steve swiech at the game...seems like a stand-up guy. cant wait to see him in the blue and gold.

Talked to Nate at the Duquesne game. He confirmed that it was just the thumb. He had ice on it off and on during the game, wasnt dressed and told us he'd be back thursday. I'm not sure if that's buffalo or for the tournament. That earns some respect in my book...

on the plus side...channel 5 put together a really nice two-part piece on the zips & romeo and dru. I have it on the dvr, if i ever figure how to get it to my pc, i'll put it on youtube.

It's not "allowed" anywhere. In fact, the NCAA hands out fines for it if you look it up. Besides, this was hardly an appropriate game to "storm the court." We beat a last place team by 6 points! COME ON! Storm the court when...?The Zips defeat a top 25 team at home (this would've been the case vs Nevada) YES!!!!The Zips beat the 2nd place team in the MAC East. NO!!!!The Zips beat the last place team in the league, senior night or not. NOOO!!!!!!The Zips beat Can't State either handily or on a last second shot...MAYBE!!!The Zips beat Can't State to win the MAC Championship. YES!!!The Zips beat ANY TEAM to win the MAC Championship. YESSSSSSS!!!!Use this as a guide in the future.

What he said. Bottom line: I'll start complaining about attendence at the womens games whenA) They have a winning seasonB) They beat Can't StateC) The mens team begins to sell out every gameD) Pigs fly.I'll need all of those to happen. The numbers are proprotionate. Look at BG, a top 25 team, in complete domination of the MAC and they average about 1,300. Good luck to the girls, I wish them well, and I do CARE if they win/lose, but when I have a busy day and there's a ladies game at 2 and a mens game at 7, which one am I going to go to?

Coach D doesnt agree with this. He'll play the heck out of everyone. He wants to win. If you listened to the postgame today, "I wont coach any game not to win." that right there tells ya, zips will be all out monday (and i'll be there with mini-zippy in tow). And check this: as of now, rome leads the nation in points for the day.http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/dailyLeaders?statDate=20070224

Could that team's management be any more stupid? I dont think it's possible. I'll avoid the NFL draft like the plague in april. I'm sure the team will once again completely ignore the more pressing needs (as they've done since they began playing in cleveland again) and draft a flameout skill position player. Brady Quinn would be an absolute disaster, the the guy folds up like a cheap suit when he's under pressure. We all know how well the Browns offensive line is at keeping pressure off the quarterback. Is charlie the long term answer? I don't know, I do know he's a solid quarterback with the heart and skills to succeed. Maybe competition is a good thing, but PLEASE DON'T WASTE THE #3 ON A QUARTERBACK!!!!

Retire the Jerseys? Dru and Rome in the Rafters?
RowdyZip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I agree with this statement completely. That being said, I'd have to say absolutely to Dru Joyce. He'll be the biggest missing piece for this team next season. Barring a miracle, Dru will become the University of Akron's all time assist leader (he needs just 3 assists) and pass the 1000 point plateau (He needs 16, not likely but plausible for this game).DRU JOYCE -CAREER AVG- 29.8 minutes, 8.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 0.8 steals, 2.0 A/TO ratioNow these numbers aren't all that impressive, but add in the intangibles, the all-time assist crown, and the 1000 point club and this guy should be in the rafters. Now on to Romeo...I love the guy, but to me it's a "NO." He's talented, but at times it seems he lacks concentration, leadership, and fire. Some of the games we've all seen him play and he looks like he's going to breakout and be a beast, then he'll follow it up with a lethargic 6 point/4 rebound performance. However, he is the all-time blocked shot leader for the school.ROMEO TRAVIS -CAREER AVG-27.4 minutes, 11.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.7 steals, 1.3 blocksIt's hard to imagine one of them up there and not the other seeing as they came in together and share the "LeBron Factor." These numbers are also skewed because of the team first coaching philosophy of Coach D. In conclusion I'd have to go with a NO then on both. I dont see just Dru getting honored. It is impressive to be the all-time leader for a D-I school in any statistic, but keep in mind these guys played 4 years starting virually every game. Averaging 27+ minutes for an entire career is rare these days (most guys that do are in the nba after a season or two). That being said, I think a MAC East regular season championship, MAC Tournament Championship and a little run in the NCAAs would be enough to end a legacy on a high note and change a LOT of opinions! GO ZIPS! -
Just a thought here: It's not the first time FTs have haunted us!Loss one vs. UALR: Lost by 2, missed 10 FT.Loss two @. UIC : Lost by 6, missed 9 FT.Loss three v. Nevada: Lost by 2, missed 9 FT.Loss four @ Ohio: Lost by 5, missed 3 FT.Loss five @ Toledo: Lost by 3, missed 1 FT.Loss Six @ Miami: Lost by 2, missed 7 FT.4 of our 6 losses have come directly because of Free throws. Shoot 75-80% from the line and we're 24-2 right now. That's depressing.

The total points scored in the Miami @ Akron game was 106 and your total is 110; nevertheless I will take the Over-110 tonight. Maybe we'll have our first overtime game which might actually be good experience come tourney time. Wow. Right on, brotha. If only the outcome could've been better...

I agree with this. Not that today is an example, but has anyone else noticed how this team tries to coast and "not lose" instead of keeping the peddle to the floor and gut things out? It kills me when we slow things down and use clock when we're up by 4 with 5 minutes left. Continue playing like you have...it got you this far. Now that I'm in a bad mood for the rest of the night, i'll go crack a cold one or 15 and sit on the couch. At least the cavs pulled their game out on the road...

Never a big game. Welcome to a first place tie. D*MMIT!!!!

Amen to this: Alumni: bring a friend!Students: Bring 10 friends!I would love nothing more than to see a packed house for these two fellas. It's a shame that the finale is against the cupcake of the year in the MAC east.
-
Akron 62Miami 48Zips win this one easily. This is the best team in the MAC and they will show it over the next 5 games.
-
Random question: Have the Zips ever had two players taken in the same draft?
-
Hopped up to 7th in the MID MAJOR POLL. For what it's worth, I think that's the highest we've been all year.

after a once over of the AP site...here's where our votes came from:Nick Jezierny, Idaho Statesman, 18th (8pts)Gary Laney, Louisiana American Press, 25th (1)Vinny Pezzimenti, NY Olean Times-Herald, 25th (1)Chad Sokol, Raleigh NC WNCN-TV, 20th (6)Matt Franklin, Lawton Oklahoma Constitution, 25th (1)Dave Mackall, Pittsburgh Tribune Review, 24th (2)-----------------------------------------------------------------19 total votesThe Zips appear on the ballot of just 6 of the 62 sportswriters on the weekly AP panel. This limits our upside in the vote category. Crack into that 25 spot on a half the other ballots and we're in the top 30. Unfortunately, I dont think we have any other "eye opener" games. Maybe a win at a hot duquesne team, or over Can't State. Call me cheesy, but I'd love to see the zips in the top 25 for something other than soccer. Football wont ever happen unless we sweep through the non conf gauntlet some year.
