Talking politics is for idiots.

Have to be able to read to use a teleprompter.Speaking of which, one thing good about Obama that cannot be denied: he is an excellent reader. Sometimes words with similar spellings cause a gaff or two (like BHO referring to some Marines as corpsemen, but for the most part, he reads very well. -
Man would that help out our secondary! You're right. A d-line that can control the line of scrimmage makes Bryan Wagner even better as well. We need three and outs. Make 'em punt the ball to Tyler Williams. Can ya tell I'm getting excited? Are you readyfor some foooootbaaaaaallll?Oh oh. Wasn't the dline supposed to be a team strength last year?

Talking politics is for idiots.
Zipmeister replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
The Constitution requires 2/3 majority for treaties. FT skirts that requirement. It is an example of people believing something is true regardless of whether or not it is true. It doesn't have to be real, it just has to be believed to be real. It's sort of like how West Virginia became a state. WV became a state by the presidential decree of President Lincoln. A presidential decree is not one of the methods of becoming a state defined by the Constitution, yet everyone believes WV is a state. As a point of law, it isn't. After the Civil War, WV should have become part of VA again and we should have 49 states. It would have been a minor issue back then, unnoticed in today's world. I stayed the night one time in Charleston, WV and WV Public TV had a half hour special where they talked to a guy who wrote a book about this issue. He was a professor at WVU or Marshall or somewhere in WV.If West Virginia and Virginia had been reunited after WWII, Obama would have only had to visit 56 states during the campaign instead of 57. -

I know a lot of the folks here will be upset to learn you have no respect for them. Well things could be worse for them. They could wake up one morning to find that the office of the President was being occupied by an incompetent community organizer, and, oh never mind. -
Zach....this is college and you are always rebuilding (or in Caleb's case..reloading). In college teaching it is "publish or perish", in retail it is "expand/grow or die", in business it is "what have you done for me lately". He just wants to build a culture where growth and constant improvement are expected of everyone...including himself. I have no problem with his statement. Would you rather have him say..."we will get where we want this year and we can rest on our laurels"?? You want him to admit failure and make drastic changes. That in my mind would be failure. We may as well start over with someone who believes in himself and his program. The fact that he says of himself that he is "green and growing" means that there will be improvement expected by him of himself.Or it could mean he considers himself a foot fungus!

Akron September opponent's coach in hot water?
Zipmeister replied to Dr Z's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
I agree. If something comes up, we can start another. So from what I can glean from this thread, there have been some kind of difficulties that have occurred at Ohio State. Anyone know any details? -
That Tampa game in 1969 was the first Zips football game I ever attended. Tampa 1969 I don't think Fred Soloman was playing for Tampa just yet, he graduated in 1974 and was drafted into the NFL in 75. Tampa pros Tampa played for a few years more, but dropped football after the 74 season. We lost to Freddie that year at the Rubber Bowl. This just keeps getting stranger and stranger. Your link says the 40-0 game was played in Tampa. I watched the game in person. I was not in Tampa. I'm going to keep remembering it the way I always have. I may be terribly wrong, but I really enjoy my distorted memory anyway.
-
Well here's more proof I'm losing my mind. I don't remember either of these games being played at the Rubber Bowl.
-
Yes. 40 to Zip over highly favored Tampa featuring Freddie Solomon at QB and Leon McCray at RB (both of whom spent time in the NFL). Zips opening kickoff returned to the Tampa 4 yard line. Fumble lost on their first play from scrimmage. We score on our first play. ACME Zip game sold old crowd. Tampa drops football following year.Second place memory. 80 yard punt at end of the game against Northern Michigan. Ball disappears into the fog that had settled in forming a ceiling on the Bowl right at the top of the stands, reemerges out of the fog behind the return man.Seems to me both games happened in the early 70s, but the brain cells that contained that info in my head have shut down (also McCray might be McQuay).
-
Harsh. Pretty much everything was wrong last year. No bright spots. Pn7 is not the only zip at fault.Brian Wagner only won 1 game last year. Is he a loser too?YES, he is, but with really good individual stats.
-
Share some of your greatest memories from the INFO. For me, Zippy's impersonation of Evel Knievel is up near the top.
-
We are doing a better job than I realized: I had no idea we were only 5 verbals behind Nebraska. Keep up the good work Icoach. I fully expect you to double our number of verbals by the end of July.

Good point. What you are saying is there aren't many football players considering a college/university who go fat early.

Zips to face Huggins this year
Zipmeister replied to ZipGoTheZippers!'s topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Wonder no more. There is no chance WVA ever comes to the JAR. K.e.n.t. fans have a better chance of having a felon-free roster. We took this game because WVA waved a bunch of money around. We can only wave coupons for $1 hot dogs in front of Huggins. That's not enough. More than likely it is just a 1 off game with WVU ponying up some cash to bring in the Zips. Best case scenario would be a 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 kind of scenario with us eventually getting a return game at the Q, but that is highly, HIGHLY unlikely. Think of it as being this years equivalent of last seasons Minnesota game. I'll be more clear. I spoke to a coach. West Virginia is not traveling to Akron. Ever. Maybe it's a 4 for 1 or 5 for 1 then. -
Here's my nomination for the Zach post of the year.

Former Can't State HC Martin makes headlines
Zipmeister replied to Hilltopper's topic in Akron Zips Football
Doogie is at New Mexico State. Since I have visited twice, and will much more, since the Futbol Zips were @ the Lobos Tourney in 2008, I can vouch for what GoZips had to say. There isn't even a sign on the freeway pointing towards Santa Fe when you need to turn -- I ended up halfway to Las Vegas (New Mexico!) I wanted to write a letter to the newspaper suggesting the state visitors' motto be "Come to New Mexico and Get Lost". But, once I arrived in "El Norte", I finally understood why they want El Gringo to keep out. BTW -- Dougie's team opens their schedule at home vs the BobKittens. They'll likely get wiped, regardless of the inside info. And, I got free donuts off that (1987?) UNM victory courtesy of my boss, a Lobo alum. Good memory, Z.I.P.! Looks like both victories (Lobo/Aggie) occured in 1988. And look what else happened that year. Old Gerry poured it on The Vest (in Youngstown no less!). Your link shows the game was played in Akron. I'm not sure which game you mean. Six or seven posts ago, I talked about the NMSU game being at the Rubber Bowl and the UNM game being in New Mexico. In my last post, I mentioned Gerry's win over The Vest occurring in Youngstown. The link confirms each of these locations. My bad. I thought where it said on the link that the Youngstown game was held in Akron meant that it was held in Akron. Now I see that your "1988" link leads to the 1985 schedule. -

As the CFL teams battle for the right to play for the Grey Cup, I will be rooting for Edmonton and Calgary to meet on November 27th. Mark July 23 and September 5 on your calendar. That's when they are scheduled to play each other during the regular season. I guess I will lean in favor of the Eskimos as they employ two former Zips while the Stampeders only have one on their roster. Buckle up, it's going to be a wild ride up North this season.

I am sure we have offered quite a few of those kids. However, most of them are holding out for the "big offer" before they choose have to choose us. If we have offered them, UAkronkid would have told us about them.

....and nicely will not be calling the plays. But....he may be making the on-field decisions. I hope Nicely reads this stuff and is embarrased. If not...then he is not our guy. One more thing to consider. In pick-up games organization can overcome better talent. Mount has a tradition of winning and discipline. That would serve them well in a pick-up game. The Zips?? They are still seeking an identity and there is no proof yet of discipline. I watched the spring game and all my attention was on the QBs. I was especially interested how the QBs handled themselves on the sidelines and after the game. I only want thesis to win and I don’t have a dog in this race….but I was not very impressed by the leadership qualities shown in that game. I'm looking for a pant load of mature leadership out of Nicely this year. Also went to Nicely's Twitter page provided by Zach earlier in this thread and read with great interest Pat's description of how his farts smell.

In some ways, it does. In most ways, it doesn't. We have a top notch basketball program and a national champion in soccer. We have had pretty good track teams over the years. Other programs have performed well also. We have good facilities. There are positives. Our problem is we built White Elephant Stadium, which I like to refer to as The Big Dialer, and it sits empty because of poor performance on the field. The footbal team casts such a negative light on the rest of the Athletic Department because the games happen at the beginning of the school year, it makes it hard to get marketing traction for a good team like basketball. The University badly needs to get the team winning and people in the seats. The distance between where we are and where we would need to be is like the distance from the Earth to the Moon. While it isn't that far compared to other space bodies, it isn't exactly the easiest place to get to. We are much less like the Beverly Hillbillies Captain Kangaroo described and more like a guy who "built" a rocket and thinks he can fly it to the moon. A sample conversation might be like this: Skeptic: "That's a really nice rocket ship you've got there." UofA: "Thanks. We built it." Skeptic: "Do you know how to fly it?" UofA: "We built it didn't we." Skeptic: "I know you built it, but do you actually know how to fly it?" UofA: "Sure we do. We've seen other people do it before." Skeptic: "I understand that, but have you actually piloted one before?" UofA: "No, but we have a plan to fly it." Skeptic: "Where are you going to fly it to?" UofA: "Where else would we go? The moon." Skeptic: "How are you going to guide the craft to the moon?" UofA: "That's a silly question. Look how big the moon is. We'll just point it in the general direction and light a match." Skeptic: "You mean you don't have a guidance computer? They had guidance computers even in the 1960s when we were exploring space." UofA: "They were fools back then. Look up. If the three kings found Jesus by the light of the north star, we can find the moon by following the moon." Skeptic: "Ya, but the three kings were riding camels and not sitting on top of tons of explosive liquid." UofA: "There is little difference between driving a camel and driving a space craft." Skeptic: "Let's get back to the trip to the moon. Does the pilot have any experience piloting a spacecraft?" UofA: "Of course not, but he has an action plan." Skeptic: "Do you think the plan will work?" UofA: "The plan doesn't really matter, we built the rocket. The rocket alone will do all the work." Skeptic: "So nobody has any experience leading a group of people who could guide a craft to the moon? What about the ground crew?" UofA: "The ground crew is equally inexperienced. That doesn't matter though. We have this rocket and it will do all the work. Light a match and off you go." Skeptic: "Do me a favor. Don't light the match while I am within 100 miles of the rocket." UofA: "Don't worry. Everything will be OK. The rocket will do all the work." The grate one's comment, "In most ways it doesn't" reminds me of the old couple visiting their local tavern. The old guy looks and sees an elderly couple at the end of the bar, nudges his wife and says, "look at them, that's what we will look like in 15 years." She responds, "you do realize that's a mirror, don't you?"

The description of the situation at EMU sounds uncomfortably familiar.

Two years from now... Exactly Not if this year's team lives up to their own expectations. Sweet 16 gets Zeke drafted, although depending on the dynamics he might get a better pick if he stays for four. Sweet 16 also gets Nik a very nice Euro contract. amazing insight.

We should definitely be scheduling a home and home series with this guys. Lock it up for at least 6 years.
