  1. I don't know who we will be playing, but I hope we schedule Carleton, Saskatchewan, and Dalhousie or teams of their caliber. I fear we will instead schedule teams like Chabot, Ohlone, and Siskiyous. Regardless, the extra practice time should be beneficial.
  2. Zipmeister is getting his flow chart template out right about now. Hey, the poor guy was probably an Education major. Give him a break.
  3. AHA, the old 22 bball conference games solution.
  4. They will be the biggest name in the MAC, but only because they stick Amherst at the tail end as in The University of Massachusetts Amherst. If Central or Western or Eastern or Northern stuck the city in which they are located in their name they would be the biggest name in the MAC.

  6. So we should put Spin down as "undecided" regarding the quality of the Zip's football program and his support of same?
  7. I was interested to learn that: There will be a ceremonial coin toss just prior to the start of the contest and relieved to learn that it will only be used to determine direction of play. Even though there will be no live kickoffs it might not be a bad idea to have multiple ceremonial coin tosses just to practice not saying "we will kick off."
  8. One of the disadvantages of claiming we have 5,000 more seats than we actually do is that percentage of capacity attendance figures get understated.
  9. I can't believe Zipmeister missed that one. Very disappointed. I have to agree with Ada on this one Capt. The ceiling over the Crew stadium does look remarkably like the sky.
  10. There is nothing new in your comment.
  11. Yes - it always hurts when we lose a player with a torn ACL to an NAIA squad.
  12. Our men's soccer team could beat either of these two squads at soccer.
  13. I thought that counter trap play that Owens used to run (very effectively) pulled the center? So did the fumblerooski occasionally run by Nebraska. How many times in a row can we run either of those plays before the other team catches on?
  14. Center is a more cerebral position than Guard. Beyond blocking, more position-specific techniques are required of a Center: handling the ball, shotgun snaps, calling-out defenses etc. I think a Center's adjustment to the Guard position is MUCH easier than a Guard's transition to the Center position. Yes, and if anyone ever develops a really good play that calls for a pulling center we will be light years ahead of the competition.
  15. Who do you think has the tougher job: the guys playing center and guard, or the guys playing guard and center?
  16. I liked Edwin Weathersby's follow up article, "Licking Toads Enhances My Bowl Game Predicting Ability."
  17. Realistic (as opposed to either low aimer or flaming overly optimistic).
  18. If there is any truth to the rumor that after his playing days Chris was struck by lightning and subsequently only answers to the name Andrew, I believe you may be correct.
  19. Winning the NIT was good, but still below expectations. According to the story linked to above, Dayton was picked to win the Atlantic 10 in 2009-10, as they had four starters and 10 of their top 11 scorers returning. But they played erratically throughout the season, finished only 8-8 in the A-10, and had to settle for the NIT instead of the Big Dance. This season the Flyers were expected to be among the A-10's top teams again, but finished 7-9 in conference and had to settle for the NIT again, where they lost to the College of Charleston in the first round. So while Dayton's last two seasons were not shameful, they underperformed expectations on Gregory's watch. Maybe Georgia Tech examined the record more closely and decided it was not all Gregory's fault that the Flyers didn't live up to expectations. We'll see how he does at GT. I will miss him. It was just like looking at and listening to Michael J. Fox (without the MD) on the sports news.
  20. It is time to change our objective. For years some of you have suggested we try to become the Gonzaga of the East. It's too late for that. From now on, let's strive to become the Butler of Northeast Ohio.
  21. My best translation: Question for ZachTheZip -- do you practice worrying or does it come naturally? What will be, will be (as in "Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)." On another note, I wasn't aware that Dayton freshman point guard Juwan Staten had decided to transfer. Staten has the potential to be a star player somewhere. That's a big hit for Dayton, which has underperformed the last two years. Interesting that departing coach Brian Gregory was rewarded for two straight underperforming seasons by getting a higher-profile job at Georgia Tech. Jawan and his dad both think Jawan is a lot better than he is. I know it's not the big dance, but winning the NIT last year wasn't too bad for the Fliers. http://www.daytondailynews.com/dayton-spor...ud-1115398.html
  22. Resources are money. Notre Dame is a small school and one can't say they have a lot of money. Resources come from ticket sales, ads, alumni donations, etc. If you get enough of that, you have the resources to win. Your school can be as small as 100 people with one really rich donor. Not only can I say Notre Dame has a lot of money, I can say they have a boatload of money, and that's a fact.
  23. easy for you to say.
  24. Why? Why do we need even more "big men" on the roster? Why are there a bunch of threads urging Dambrot to do something that clearly doesn't need to be done at this time? Ooh, Ooh, I know. Cause having two or three is better than having one.
  25. Not sure to what extent either party is interested, but Dayton could easily triple his salary. I think he would hard time turning down that job if it was offered to him. I'd give a hometown discount. I sizable one. But I would not turn down tripling my paycheck K.D would fit in well at Dayton. UD's practically all home game ooc schedule makes Akron's ooc schedule look pretty tough.
