  1. Very impressive. A long list comprised almost exclusively of guys committed to other schools and a handful of playahs with no apparent interest in us. By the way - your height filter didn't work too well.
  2. So which of these student athletes do you think is a quick fix for Akron? None of them have Akron listed as a school in the running for their services. Only one has a school of a similar quality as Akron on their list. The 3 lowest rated candidates have no schools on their list and one of them is only 6'8".
  3. two things. 1. I don't think the Colonial League is overrated. 2. Almost all of the years that were tracked for Butler earlier in this thread, they got into the big dance by winning their conference tournament, not through their OOC scheduling.
  4. What if the other option was winning it all in either the CBI or CIT?
  5. Here are links to learn more about the CBI and CIT. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/College_Basketball_Invitational http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CollegeInside...ason_Tournament
  6. I think both the NCAA and NIT are better than either the CBI or CIT. Between the CBI and CIT I believe the CIT has a better format.
  7. Best comment in this thread and right on point.
  8. Curious or prophetic? While having a 6'8" long-range gunner can be interesting we need someone who can board.
  9. indescribable
  10. Weird indeed. And also very sinister. It's all part of the nationwide anti-MAC conspiracy designed to prevent one of our brethren from being able to proclaim on March 31 that "We are number 103, we are number 103!!"
  11. KD already knows what I wrote. I speak with him frequently. In case you haven't figured it out; it was my advice about cutting back on running so many offensive sets. And, why the snide? Because I think he knows what he's doing. anyway, i think a long post criticizing your "friend" isn't the way to go about it, but whatev. I'm sorry. I did not realize that coaches live in ivory towers and are above it all. Most coaches are constantly seeking advice and information (called "tips"). Sorry that you read what I write as criticizism. It certainly is not intended as so. I am just and old, dumb ox who has forgotten so much. I don't think anyone on this board will argue your last point Go.
  12. And that is 20 points - 16 if you take off the blocked shots. What a shame, we could have been in it. We picked an unfortunate day to decide not to be able to hit the broad side of a barn. Wait till next year, then we'll show em.
  13. Thats the way of it. I just surprised me because of its uncommon nature. Welcome to the 20th century.
  14. Good news. If it is true that that photo is 85% of original size, none of those guys are over 8 inches tall.
  15. One thing the writer of this piece failed to mention: with Zeke Akron has reached the second round of the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history. Now that's an impact player.
  16. skip-zip, no offense intended, but in what world is it like this now? It is already closer to guys getting paid (actually, they are getting paid) than college students who happen to play a sport. Way closer. Let's not try to make believe really talented guys at schools like Alabama are there to get an education or that the coaches care whether or not they get an education. Should they get paid by the schools? No. Should they be able to go out and get a job? Yes. Oh, I know the situation. And I'm merely stating that if we you are an Akron fan, and we continue to see principles that allow things to drift further in the other direction, it's not good news for us. We need to remember that a college education will be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in these kids lifetimes. And knowing how expensive college has gotten in the 30 years since I attended makes it a benefit that I think these kids should value even more. And that's coming from someone who personally knows what it was like to struggle financially to get a college education. I only agree with the job restriction because it opens the door for the kids at the bigger schools to get some real sweet perks from supporters and boosters, therefore contributing further to an unlevel playing field, and a disadvantage for Akron. But other than that, I sure wish they could find a way to allow kids to earn a little part time money. Well then I'm against the job restriction. I think the NCAA should have restrictions that close the door for kids to get real sweet perks from boosters. Job Restrictions help prevent against boosters giving players a job that pays $20-50 an hr to do nothing. Simple as that. These players wont be working at Wal-Mart if the job restrictions rule is lifted. You are terribly confused. Skip has already pointed out that these restrictions open the door for such activities.

  18. This is true, but there are two "i"s in rotisserie. Let's singe the Fighten Potato Eaters.
  19. For anyone who didn't watch the game live on TV or taped, the broadcast was typical for a MAC game: a second-rate effort. The broadcast team did little or no research and mentioned the same facts enumerable times during the game. Fortunately, the KD / LeBron connection was only mentioned once (at least that's all I remember). However, we did hear, a disturbingly high number of times, that the two schools were only 14 miles apart, that the teams didn't like each other, that Akron had been to the last 5 championship games, that Can't State had been to a bunch of championship games over the last 13 years, that Akron and Can't State have been the two best programs in the MAC over the last decade, and that the MAC is an extremely competitive basketball conference (that's a nice way to put it). Listening to each of these facts once or twice a game would be OK. Listening to them over and over and over and over reeks of bush league. If ESPN is too lazy to do the research, The MAC should provide them with a longer and more diversified list of talking points. Go Zips.
  20. Used to be Court TV It's not Reality, it's Actuality!
  21. How much taller will he be? Do you have any projections for height and weight gains between his high school senior year and college freshman year yet?

  23. Nice player, but easily replaceable. Who is going to do this next year? It constantly amazes me how negative some of you can be in spite of these players winning one of the most exciting games against our arch rival on national TV and giving us one of the best seasons in program history. One more win and we have THE best season in program history. Why treat some of them like disposable commodities? They are real young men who have worked hard to entertain us and do our alma mater proud. Why not celebrate that with them and thanks them for their hard work and success? If they choose to leave early because better opportunity exists elsewhere, wish them well! They have earned it. Put the bitterness and negativity away for at least a few weeks...there will be plenty of opportunity for that during football season. Yes, I hope the growth of our program results in continually better players being brought in, but that doesn't have to be at the expense of taking away from the accomplishments of current and past players. We have them to thank for the growth of the program. Shame on you, GP1! Please reread my post. I said he was a nice player before saying he was replaceable. Everyone is replaceable...some more easily than others. Are they disposable commodities? Maybe. Some for sure. Didn't we give the boot to some of our commodities after last season? Aren't we better because of it? It's Division I college basketball, not D-III or high school. In a big boys world and inside of coaches rooms, players are talked about in this manner. Sorry if some aren't mature enough to talk about it. It's not a maturity issue at all. My main point is that this is a great day for the Zips and UA. We should be all positive in celebration. I won't debate this anymore though because I know it could go on ad nauseum. I can think of some great captions for that pic. Unfortunately, the monitors would not care for most of them. Several of them involve thoughts of women from his hometown. In addition, think of the bacteria on that net; might as well lick the floor.
  24. That's all well and good, but GoZips has been wondering for 3 and a half months now whether or not he's a frisbee and anything I can do to ease his anxiety, I'm going to do. Watching the Flyers get waxed on TV right now reminded me of GoZips! Ke.nt vs Dayton would be an entertaining NIT game.
