I've seen some speculation that someone at UA somehow caused this scheduling problem, but I haven't seen any specific details. Do you have any specifics, or is this still just speculation? For example, is it possible that FIU may have asked UA if the game could be rescheduled, UA agreed to try to find a solution, and Temple happened to have an open date they wanted to fill? If it was something like that, then the scheduling problem really wasn't "caused by us" (UA). Not speculation; reasoned deduction. Think Kentucky/Wisconsin.

I think this is the best point of the thread. Zeke isn't a scorer at this point in his career. And people can theorize whatever goofball psychoanalytical hypothesis they want regarding "why?"...but Zeke is a defensive player 1st. And 2nd and 3rd. That's the way it is today. Letting Zeke focus on D, and letting our other O-Centric players score, is the best formula for winning in March. When teams start focusing on McKnight and Nik, then Zeke will need to step up and score. Zeke loves D. He always has. Letting him focus on D, and letting the other hot hands score, is what's best for our team right now. The standings don't lie. Maybe Zeke is secretly auditioning to play tight end for the football team.

Another reason why I have no problem with the MAC allowing Temple to join as a football only member. The Owls were willing to step up and help fix a scheduling problem caused by us. They are a class act.

You might think it should be good, but I'll bet it's hard.

I smell a potential lawsuit. Obviously the ROTC folks didn't properly train this poor kid how to measure people for uniforms.

His time as a teacher and coach at both Firestone High and the UoA and mine as a student both places overlapped. Glad to hear he is still among us. Learning of his impending honoring reminded me of a couple of (at least semi-funny) stories involving the two of us. Luckily for you guys they are too long for me to commit to writing. Bottom line, in addition to being a hell of a basketball player he was a good guy (and I assume still is).

Why do you have to talk that way about other programs? Is it because Akron is the worst team in the worst conference in D1 so it makes you feel better? It's a fact that iCoach is driving away players in maas (he even drove away the "Rudy" award winner) - the fact that they won't see the field is not the issue, the issue is why are all these kids leaving. For every kid that leaves, there is probably at least one other kid that wants to leave but can't since they are on scholarship. The kids that left are thinking they can either stay with a program they hate and possibly see their grades suffer, or transfer to a quality school and still play the game they love. Remember, the main reason for going to college is to learn, not play football. The focus should be on education first, not athletics. So when your attitude about the athletics effect your performance in the classsroom, it is time to move on. For over 99% of these players, this will be the last football they play. Wow...don't get your panties all in a bunch there, killer. The fact is, these kids are transferring to lower divisions. Whatever your feelings about the MAC, if they were so good they could still go to Youngstown State, Delaware, Montana, etc. My guess is either THEY realized, the coaches realized or a combination of their and the coaches realization was this= you are not good enough to play FBS football..even in the MAC!!! Believe it or not, some kids choose a school not because they play D1 football but because of other factors - outrageous I know - but it happens. For you to say these kids aren't good enough to play FBS football just shows your ignorance - but we knew that by reading the first line of your reply. I wish more kids would consider more than just football when deciding where to go. They probably have parents like you telling them - "Hey, Akron is D1 football - you have to go there instead of that other school that you like so much". Some kids just want to play football in college and have a better chance contributing for a longer period of time at a level lower even though they are capable of playing at a higher level. Furthermore, the majority of a teams roster is made up of players that will not see significant playing time - you still need these players to contribute in practice. Seems like the kids aren't buying into what iCoach is trying to sell them. I guarantee you Akron will again not have enough players for a traditional spring scrimmage and we will see another offense vs defense scrimmage. I will be curious to see how many will be on the spring roster. I said that is my GUESS that they came to that realization. I am just looking at what I see. Not speaking in definites here. I'm not about to get in a pissing match with you about this. Kids leave colleges every year for many different reasons. Fair enough. But, as an example, Tate Forcier left Michigan and is going to...Miami (and not the one in the MAC). And, guess what= he looked like an FBS QB last year. So he is probably in the division he belongs. 2 of the players mentioned are going to schools that play, arguably, a much lower level of football than Akron does. Great...if they are more comfortable there...more power to them. Do they get scholarships to play there? Hmm...I am not 100% certain, but I am pretty sure Pioneer schools do not offer scholarships. If this is better for them, their families, etc...great. Sorry, but I am not about to bust on Ianallo and the coaching staff just yet. As someone mentioned in this thread or another, there were many that lambasted Auburn for grabbing Chizik a couple years ago. And, "closer to home", we had Miami (OH) with Haywood at 1-11 go on to win the MAC. He, of course, then went on to do some bad things...but that really doesn't matter does it? Or, maybe it does. Ianello might win 7 games at Auburn just because he can recruit talent there. Doesn't make him a good coach or may be it does. How many quotes can be contained in a single post? It's like a literary Turducken. I'm thinking at least seven.

I can quantify - High-Level Winning* + Good Marketing = Major Attendance Increase High-Level Winning + Bad Marketing = Minor Attendance Increase Mediocre Winning** + Good Marketing = Minor Attendance Increase Losing + Good Marketing = Minor Attendance Decrease Losing + Bad marketing = Appreciable Attendance Decrease*** * High-level winning = Marquee/BCS win(s), and an NCAA Tourney win. Or, any eye-catching, "story book" type season. ** Mediocre winning = Winning record, no marquee wins, and an "other" tourney appearance *** Appreciable decrease is assumed to follow a decent season. Multiple bad seasons will yield a flat-line, bottom rung attendance. See UA football. Note: Effects are additive. If you follow up a great season with a bad one, you lose the public. If you back up a good season with a good/great season, you build. You cannot plant a garden on Monday and pick fruit on Thursday. It takes time to go from 2k to 5k...to 7k, etc. CSU planted the seeds. You can see the plants sprouting. What has UA planted lately? I’m impressed. I had no idea you were that much of a student of the game. Very few people remember when CSU turned the corner. After years of being a college bball doormat, first as Fenn College and then as CSU, I think the years the Vikings set the stage for all the good things to come was 1980-81 and 1981-82. One of the notable events in the 80-81 season was a loss to Marquette in front of a record 7,441 fans at Public Hall. The team went 18-9 that year and Franklin Edwards earned All-America honors. They followed that up in 81-82 with a 17-10 season with Darren Tillis earning All-America accolades.

Looks like the guy with the 6th post in this thread beat you to that one.

I have to say as a Nebraska fan, I always wished he was on the staff at Oklahoma.

If people learn from their mistakes, this guy should be about the smartest DC out there.

Plate, Heiss and Vidmar - No one cares. Greenwood is a disappointing loss. All four are disappointing. We simply don't have the depth to sustain losses like this. We don't even have an FCS number of scholarship players and we're losing them at a rate faster than recruiting can replace thanks to the 25-person limit on signing classes. I don't know, maybe it's Ianello's goal to cut the roster down to NFL size. He's going to leave the team in even worse shape than Brookhart did. If we have 66 already here on scholarship and signed 23 more, are we over the D1 limit?

Whether or not a team from the Zips glory years could beat one of the more contemporary Zip squads depends in part on whether the game is being played with a shot clock. With no shot clock and the the Glory Years group scoring first, they win just about every contest. How? Give the ball to Terry Marsh and let him dribble out the clock.

So there is a bright side to this hire.

does YSU even have a forum? haha Not sure - but I do know they did have 3 wins - 200% more than Akron One thing for darn sure ... if YSU played Akron's schedule, they would be 0-12. If Akron played YSU's schedule the Zips, as sad as they were, would probably be no worse than 8-4. But, then, why bother? Be nice to get YSU as our non-IA home game. Suspect that would cause the Penguins to hibernate after the blow out loss. Its easy to flap your gums when you do not have to belly up to the bar. Ianello is no soft hearted Jim Tressel. YSU would get smoked. I'll have two of whatever Go is smoking.

And what happened? The problem with another team in the MAC is someone might have to go. Lets see, who is the weakest team in the MAC... DUH Why would another team have to go? UMass makes the football divisions even again. As for what happened, nobody knows yet. The meeting took place, but no announcement was made. Not even a whisper. In doing a little Google, it seems that Temple might leave. You aren't using the words "flying pigs" among your search terms are you?

He who is offended when offence is not intended, is a fool; he who is offended when offence is intended, is a greater fool. You don't have to get all OFFENSIVE about it The best defense is a good offense.

I'm not sure how one statement could be interpreted as two different statements, but you did have two different sentences and the first one is the one where you are sure of something that is untrue. edit: By the way, the last sentence in your last post is also based on an incorrect assumption (in actuality, most jobs at a University do not require a public search).

Porter talked about playing home against Cleveland State at the American Outlaws' USA/Chile watch party a few weeks ago. Also, Maryland at home too i've heard. Yes, Caleb said the Zips are home against Cleveland State, Xavier, and Maryland this Spring. He also mentioned 2 games in one day at Ultimate Soccer Arenas (nice place) in Pontiac, MI...one of them against the Wolverines...as well as a trip to Xenia, OH. Who are we scheduled to play in Xenia; Central State or Wilberforce? Please reply ASAP so we can notify the appropriate school to start a soccer team.

Well I'm going to be skeptical about anything you are sure of from now on.

Are you asking about the All Star defensive tackle? http://www.semiprofootball.info/minor/allstars/ohiov10.htm

The Akron rifle team posted victory over visiting Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday and lost at Ohio State on Sunday. View the full article at www.GoZips.com Plus, when comparing 5421 to the Zip Trigger Squeezing Team's score against Tosu, it makes it look like we were using guns with bent sights in Cowlumbus. The waxing we took at the the hands of the scarlet and cream was devastating enough. Let's not make things worse by misreporting scores.

Who knows, maybe an "unfortunate" name serves to toughen a player up? Perhaps Dick Butkus (one example) might not have been the quite the same LB without the teasing that no doubt came along the way. This guy probably never got teased at all. But the writer did: He had went to college at Arizona State University. At ASU, Fair lettered in track and football. Corrected sentence: He had went to college at Arizona State University where he done lettered in track and football. 2:23am and Zipmeister's still going strong. Dedicated participants are willing to take a break from the poker game at the Super Bowl party to check out what's happening at the Nation.
