  1. Who did he commit to?
  2. In more cases than you probably think, college athletes simply have much more loyalty to the coaches who brought them, rather than the school itself. In how many cases do you think I'm thinking that?
  3. Wonder why he expressed interest in being recruited by D2 and D3 programs.
  4. Congrats to Coach B. I appreciate his efforts on behalf of Akron and I hope his new team never wins another game.
  5. forget that the facility includes academic space to be used throughout the yearforget that that the endzone facility will be used for sports medicine for all sportsforget that that the stadium will be used for high school football gamesforget that that a Zips game is one of the cheapest and most entertaining sports venues in the northeast ohio region. (best bang-for-your-buck)forget that that this stadium was under construction long before the financial crisis even hitforget that that the stadium was LONG overdue for the university.\unless you were being sarcastic... in which case that was poorly played.I was pretty sure trimmy was referring to the Minnesota facility rather than the Zips cause we normally only get 5 home games per year.
  6. If the Bears have a 60 man travel squad, how many players will they have to leave in Maryland when they come to play the Zips?Thinking ................................................................................... page down to see how close your answer is to my calculationkeep goingI figure 5 guys have to stay home. They have 56 on their 2009 spring roster and recruited a grand total of 9 players for next fall.http://www.morganstatebears.com/news/2009/...0205093608.aspx
  7. Xavier has a slightly better national reputation than Akron? Next you will be telling me that Dollie Parton has slightly bigger hooters than does the average twelve year old boy.
  8. This just in............. A.P. Newswire: Hunter Yurachek, who has been posing as the Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director at the University of Akron, has been identified as an undercover, double secret, KGB agent. Absolutely nothing that he has told anyone is to be believed.
  9. I notice that he attends Hoover High. Hoover was never one of my favorite presidents. Maybe they will rename the school Obama High. Oh, wait a minute. Given his past there may be some confusion whether that is a school or a question. Anyway, the kid sounds very talented.
  10. Good point. The basketball coaches who comprise the voting panel in this poll probably don't know much about the other mid-majors.
  11. Here are some numbers from the 2009 Morgan State roster to think about when preparing for the BIG game. They have a whopping 56 players on their team not including any true freshmen which I assume will get added in the Fall. Now match the following numbers (presented in random order) with the correct description. 8, 5, 9 & 11.Number of Seniors on the roster ____Number of Juniors on the roster ____Number of transfers from other division I schools ____Number of players who went to Blache Ely High school ____Come up with your answers, then page down.keep goingNumber of Seniors on the roster ____ 11Number of Juniors on the roster ____ 9WOW, these guys are loaded with experience!Number of transfers from other division I schools ____ 8 (including 2 from Akron)Come to Morgan State, the school of second choice!Number of players who went to Blache Ely High school ____ 5Talk about a pipeline! If you did well on this preseadon quiz, stay tuned for the preseason quiz.
  12. or they could just draw lines in the mud and play REAL football!! It would be just like the old Cleveland stadium. Doyt-Perry or whatever they call that god forsaken thing.Missed it by that much. Cleveland Municipal Stadium (Lakefront Stadium) located in Cleveland. Doyt Perry Stadium in Bowling Green.
  13. Well being a club team means:1) We pay our own way. Actually though we have raised alot of money through sponsorships and only had to pay about 200 dollars a person to play. That's well under what i pay for summer ball so not too bad.2)Tryouts were open to any student and we held them in mid to late october last fall. We had about 45 people at tryouts just from word of mouth and me sending a few facebook messages. I expect that this fall when we hold tryouts again there will be even more interest. 3) Club Baseball is actually quite competitive. Most would compare it to D2 or high D3 baseball. Actually, i believe we have 7 guys who played college ball somewhere else before coming here. They played at places like Ohio Northern and Tiffin. Many schools use the Club teams as a pipeline for talent and take players for the "varsity" team. Some schools (Penn State for example) even go as far as sending guys that don't get much playing time down to their club teams (they have 2) to get them more work. We don't exactly have that sort of relationship yet with the baseball program but i have spoken to Coach Bangston and i am trying to get something like that organized. So basically i would say that yes we are somewhat of a JV team. I don't want to sound like i'm talking us up too much but i am pretty confident that a good few of our players could play if not start for the Varsity team here. I know that a handful of my guys are planning on trying out this fall so we will see who makes the cut. A few transferred here with that intent.I would especially love to organize a scrimmage with the team but I have a feeling they wouldn't want to do such a thing considering they really don't have anything to gain from it. But anyone that is interested in playing next year feel free to stay tuned for information as i will be sure to have fliers posted on campus and a good bet would be to join this group on facebook. It is how i get most information out about the team. Club Baseball group
  14. Just in case anyone from the NCAA is monitoring this thread, please be advised that rootforroo44 and the uakronkid have no official relationship with the University of Akron, and that the Akron club baseball team is in no way associated with the University athletic department or varsity baseball team.
  15. I believe Bain will be the best football player that has been on scholarship at Akron for three years and never played a down in a game. The standard has been set.
  16. What color lace did you want on those chair backs?
  17. Then don't act snooty when guys discuss the important topic of how to best rest their butts while watching a football game.
  18. so, I'll just play dumb and actually ask to put it on the table, are you trying to insult me?You don't have to play.
  19. Given your seven posts on the 2009 unis thread Zen, I'm surprised you didn't suggest putting blue and gold lace on the chair backs.
  20. I'm afraid Bob Cousy's connections to Boston are too great to get him to hook up with the Zips.
  21. If they are smart, they will do what Indiana University did=You can "purchase" one of those chairback seats (similar to what folks bring in) and it will be affixed to your seat for the season. Not sure how this would work for HS games being played there, but it could be another revenue source. I'm sure if they bought a large amount, they could get them for $15 per. Charge fans $30 for the season ($5 per game) and boom...$15 made on every one purchased!!!That must be what they did at UCF... we went to a game there and there were several of those in spots with no people anywhere near them. They were just clamped on to the seat. We thought about using them, but ended up moving over by the band at halftime. I guess that would only work in the reserved sections. They should do what they do at Nebraska. Rent out chair backs by the game. You rent them on the way in. Let them sit when you leave. No need to bolt them to a bench. They pick them up and rent them again next game. Spectators weight keeps them in place.
  22. I think McNees is showing good hops in the photo. Plus he has positioned himself so that the Gonzaga player had to contort his body severely to make the dunk. Later in life when the guy can't bend over to tie his shoe laces, it will be Steve who did the damage.
  23. I just got OKed to enter Bearroundup. I think the key when registering is to tell them you got a degree from Morgan State. It does take them a few days to verify your information. At least it took them three days to verify that I graduated from there (which I didn't). I will let you know what, if any kind of chatter is going on there about the Zips.Well there went several minutes of my life that I will never get back. Bearroundup.com is NOT the place to go for Morgan State sports news. There is a sports blog in the site. The two most recent entries - January 2009 and September 2008.

  25. Arizona did not want a coach whose mug could be confused with a bush baby, but after 5 other guys turned them down they went that route. This increases Akron's chances of landing Payne to 1 in 999.5. I'm starting to believe.
