Class of '23 Offers & Verbal Commits
Zipmeister replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
I created an Excel file for the LATE SIGNING PERIOD VERBAL COMMITMENTS shown on the first page of this thread. I am unable to load it here. (Is there a way to do so?) If you have Excel, I’m thinking that if you want you could copy the printout into an Excel file and have your very own searchable file. Happy Memorial Day. -
I wonder how Ronan Chambers is taking this news.

If you were disappointed in these individual predictions, you have a real treat coming when these guys predict the place the Zips will finish in the MAC East.

2022-23 Akron Football Off-season Tracker
Zipmeister replied to Let'sGoZips94's topic in Akron Zips Football
We have enough to be concerned about without adding the Toledo/Bowling Green game to the list. -
Set to beam one up Captain. Set your Phaizon to stun.

I checked in with Arth and he said he thought it was unlikely that few, if any, players in the transfer portal that Groce used would have an interest in playing football.

Let catdaddyp loose on EA Sports and each Zip will end up with a P5 NIL deal. -

Here is a good start to the multiple choice answer to your question.......... A. No problem, ZipsNation members have wildly over estimated the number of scholarships that were outstanding before those offered in the first post in this thread. B. Problem, Both the estimated existing and the new scholarships reflected in the first post to this thread are accurate and NCAA punitive measures for the program are just around the corner. C. Somebodies going to be ticked, The estimated number of existing scholarships is correct and to avoid NCAA penalties mentioned above some existing scholarships get yanked. -
Your expectations for the baseballers seems reasonable (although it was a lot like pulling teeth to get you to reveal them). You have expressed the opinion (multiple times) that the expectations for the football and baseballs teams are not the same. Do you have any information you can share about who (hopefully someone in a position of authority) holds these different expectations and more details on exactly what the differences are?

You provide an excellent answer to several question that I did not ask. I must admit that I did not realize there had to be a level playing field to post what I thought was some interesting info about the performance of Ohio college baseball teams. I also did not realize that the Zips having an absentee head coach would have a significant depressing effect on all Ohio college baseball teams. I did not know that I didn't want to admit that MAC football and baseball have similarities; but I am willing to do so (hell's fire, both sports have the word "ball" in their title). Kent State made it to the College World Series in 2012; if it happened once, it can happen again. I did not realize that I expected MAC baseball teams to play on the same level as Wake Forest and LSU (how in the world did you come up with that based on my previous posts?). To refresh your memory, the question that I asked but you failed to answer was: To what standards do you think the Zip's baseball team is being held?
-
Newsflash. The teams in the bottom half of the conference standings have worse records than the top half. (Additional Newsflash. The teams in the top half of the conference standings have better records than the bottom half.) And don't draw as many quality opponents. (Wait a minute, I thought MAC baseball teams play championship contenders for half a season - because it's not snowing there.) And MAC teams as a whole are not as good as teams in the south. (it's impossible to swing a dead cat south of the Mason Dixon line and not hit a simply awful hardball squad.)Then there's "Spuds" who we hired to build the program and didn't. We know. We know. It's a good thing we don't hold football (2-10) to the same standards. (To what standards do you think the Zip's baseball team is being held?)
-
SPIN, You are very confused. Ohio teams play teams south of the Mason Dixon line because it's warmer there and very few of the games are against championship contenders. Take a look at the following OOC RPI numbers to see how good MAC teams are at lining up OOC games against really rotten teams. https://d1baseball.com/nitty-gritty/
-
Deep thoughts by Spin. Nothing unusual here about MAC football. Pick any MAC sport (men's or women's) and have all of their OOC games played against that sports superpowers and one would expect similar results. However, examination of the SOS in my last post demonstrates that the pathetic W/L record and RPIs of Ohio college baseball teams (from 6 different conferences) is not the result of them loading their schedules with college baseball superstars.

Position Preview (and updates) - Running Back
Zipmeister replied to catdaddyp's topic in Akron Zips Football
See below for more programs with scads of RBs. What’s my point? The Zips current roster includes a dangerously low number of RBs. Few, or no, teams make it through a season without getting a couple, or more, RBs at least dinged up. Team # of RBs on roster Nebraska 11 Michigan 10 Columbus Tech 8 Michigan St. 7 Indiana 7 Wisconsin 6 Iowa 6 Minnesota 6 Northwestern 6 Purdue 6 Maryland 6 Rutgers 6 Illinois 5 Penn St. 5 -

A review of the current MAC football rosters suggests the coaches at NIU and Kent are most likely to share your opinion. Team # of RBs on roster Ohio 8 Miami 8 Ball 7 BGSU 7 CMU 7 Toledo 7 Buffalo 6 EMU 6 WMU 5 NIU 4 Kent 3 -
Someone should tell the folks at Butler. As of 1:00 this afternoon ALI is still on their roster. https://butlersports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster

Very confusing. How much eligibility can this guy have left? According to HUDL, he's been on the roster of Mt. San Antonio College since 2018!!! https://www.hudl.com/profile/6603476/Daniel-Tupuola

When I saw the photo you posted, I thought maybe the Zips were holding a special "let's fill the stadium with almost one fan per player" event.

I was following the game on D1 Baseball. Just took a look at the box score to determine who hit the first Zip grand slam of the game..........and it's not there! I routinely follow a number of teams on that site and maybe I combined a couple of games in my head; sorry about that. Still the Zips looked like world-beaters in that game and they did score in all but one inning. Nineteen is also a lot of runs to score in one game. Here's hoping they saved enough to sweep the series.
