OK - go out on a limb time. I think the Zips defense holds the Sooners to 30 or under points with an Akron offense that can move the ball. Special teams and turnovers could be big.

I'm guessing most of their posters are freshman around 18 years old. I wouldn't buy what they are selling.

I'm not a Stoops fan, but he has it right idea on player pay. Further, any kid that that does things like walking over a player after a big tackle should be thrown out for unsportsmanlike conduct. This game needs policed and cleaned up or it goes away for a lot of people. If you're an ass, get out and go to the street where you can be marginalized and ignored.

To win big this year, we need a 1000 yard rusher.

Do you think Bowden could get Brian Bell (FSU)?

I'm 100% for this young man. -
Appears that, per this article, the O-line guards and tackles switched sides?

Forget any help from Louisville transfer Harris - GoZips lists him as out for the season due to Achilles tear. Maybe Lane can pick up the slack.

I hope the Tigers enjoy their visit. Maybe take in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. As for our program, we should be playing YSU in this game. Attendance would be good, and I think everyone would have enjoyed the game. Maybe our next AD will know how to schedule (I doubt it).

I'm getting less pessimistic about the O-line. Full boat of Seniors and athletes that can play emerging on the roster and two deep. I'm greedy - we need more.

This is from Ron in Canton (forgive me Ron for posting your thought - had to do it after listening to this broadcast) - Administrator Scott Scarborough - ASS.

G. Thomas article in the Urinal today (could not copy link) about MTB being out for the season due to hand surgery. Maybe this is why he had trouble catching the ball in 2014.

Thanks Johnny for the Pass-n-Pitch reference. It brought back memories of Gerry spitting into the radio microphone while pronouncing the repetition of the 'P' in Pass and Pitch (alliteration to justify the new smart strategy?) in an interview with Whitey Wahl. Didn't seem like anyone knew what their assignment was with the Pass and Pitch or Flex Bone (Ball of Confusion should have been playing at practice). It seemed like we just got boned trying to use it.

I would think Bullard and Gauthney are projects like Williams was and that Casimos and Ritz will play a lot (either side) at guard and tackle respectively. Looks like we have Brumbaugh lite for his Senior year.

Oklahoma has several Juco's on the offensive line, which surprises me. I would think they would be three deep of top talent all along the OL. I'm still concerned over our tackle positions, and wish we had both back from the 2013 year (Pughsley 6'5" 314, and Demhsaj 6'6" 331). Maybe Funk can work some magic this year with a newcomer or the players he has on the roster. Peterson seemed to have a problem with any guard or tackle on the OL that was under 6' 4" (McNamarra 6' 1"- now gone, and Casimos 6' 2" - both could play) - a big ten metric. I know Williams and Osborne are 6'3", but these guys had to play as we were, and are, thin (literally too) at these positions.

Our defense is receiving a lot of praise, and deservedly so, but in the one drive that would have made our season last year (Wagon Wheel stays and bowl eligibility) they came up empty. That's right - Cant's last drive after we scored on a late go ahead gallop by Chisholm. What happened? -Their tight end had a fantastic game - was he Mizell's man or another linebacker (SAM), I don't know, but it seemed as our strong defense had cashed it in before the final whistle. I don't think anyone would have been as disappointed as all were if we had beat Can't and improved to 6 and 6 in 2014. This last drive defined our 2014 season. Do we lack some toughness? When it's cold do we fold? The story is still unfinished and will continue in about 1 month. I'm interested to see what this team is made of in 2015.

I'm surprised Constance didn't call for a lady's football program to replace the men's team.

Incoming 5th Year QB transfer
UA1987 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Playmaker playmaker make me a play. Smart move by this young man. If Akron has a good season, NFL scouts are going to want to know why did the turnaround happen. If this kid can be in on 10 big plays or more in 2015, he will be noticed. -
Oklahoma's Spring ranking was #19. Question at QB, and thin at LB. Their OL line is revamped, but looks to be outstanding. DL too. Stoops seems burnt out with this job. May be time for a change and Akron would like to help him out with a career move by catching the Sooners wondering ' what is a Zip?'. I know how everyone likes to talk about uniforms, so how about if, for the first half of this game, the Zips enter the stadium with John Heisman era throwback uniforms, including shoes with zippers and painted or decal wrapped helmets to look like replica leather with scaled down face masks. We could outplay OK while distracting them in these uni's and come out in the second half close in score dressed in modern equipment and take the game (jokes on them). Maybe the band could form an electric zipper instrument pep section (please - kidding). I'm sure there are other additions to this format that might be interesting (Cheer squad, Zippy etc...) all changed at half time in a surprise move to build up their confidence to a level where they cannot compete. Maybe fans could carpool to the game in throwback Model T's and have brown gravy guzzling and sauerkraut ball eating contests (Akron delicacies) prior to the game complete with t-shirts for the best projectile vomit or schart.

We need to figure out what will work as our slingshot. It can be done. Putting 'Zip Go The Zippers' on our helmets might be distracting again (Michigan game).

Pohl's int was already mentioned in several prior posts with no mention of his touchdown pass in the Spring game, so I thought it was about time someone pointed it out. Duplicating negative comments on Pohl, with no mention of the good things he's done duplicates my concern about the person posting these slanted comments. I'd say no one took Pohl's starting position in the Spring. T. Chapman showed elusiveness on the run but his passing was off target. In the Fall things could change, but I like Pohl's experience at QB. It has not been discussed yet, that I have seen, about T. Chapman's height - can he see well enough over both lines at this level to see the WR routes and get the ball there on target. He may need to adjust and work on this part of his game.
-
Zipt - Pohl also had the only touchdown pass.
-
The way our offense has changed, we may need all three QB's this year. Just throwing this out there - Woodsen might be our starting QB in a bowl at year end due to nagging injuries with the other two (sound familiar to anyone).
-
I believe Coe and Boxen will be sharing the DT role this year, but Boxen sure looks the part of a strong FBS program player. It will be fun this year to see what kind of impact he will have.
-
Biggest surprise for me - Bohan started with the Blues at center (all Senior offensive line).
-
Bowden on the post game interview said one player is out for the year (happened earlier in Spring). Anyone hear who it is?
