  1. 2-0 win...nice. But, it's so frustrating to see the same players for so many minutes when they seem so disinterested. The first half was a snooze fest. Once some of the bench players whom we don't often see came in, the pace of the game picked up. I don't understand recruiting the players we have and letting so many of them sit the bench with so few minutes.
  2. Marshall is also #1 ranked in RPI. (updated through 9/26/23) https://rpiupdatemenssoccer.blogspot.com/search/label/RPI Rank
  3. Personally I’m really happy that you have decided to post on this forum. I wish you would continue to do so more often. However are personal attacks always your style when you disagree with someone? Also, where are your posts during the off season and Spring exhibition season? I notice you seem to post mostly to gripe about others’ posts when they don’t agree with your opinion.
  4. https://www.mlsnextpro.com/about/competition-guidelines POINT SYSTEM: Clubs will receive three points for a win in regulation, at least one point for a tie and zero points for a loss. Any match which ends in a draw in normal time will go to a shootout using kicks from the penalty mark (KFPM) to determine the winner. Both teams will receive one point for the tie and the team winning the KFPM will receive an additional one point. To keep this relevant to a Zips Mens Soccer discussion, this was also the rule in the Spring Exhibition Season in which the Zips competed in the College Spring League. (* Teams earn 3 points for a win, 2 points for a shootout win & 1 point for a shootout loss)
  5. I agree not because you wrote this, but I prefer staying as true to FIFA rules as possible as well as the collegiate compressed schedule. MLSNEXT Pro drives me insane with awarding a point for a draw and then going to PKs and awarding an extra point to the team that wins the PK shootout. I hate PK shootouts...no sane league would ever add more PK shootouts than necessary.
  6. My opinion ... I would agree if the NCAA ever implements the Fall/Spring Soccer season where teams aren't playing such a compressed schedule.
  7. Got it. https://www.bigeast.com/news/2023/9/14/mens-soccer-besoccer-league-play-jumpstarts-friday-afternoon.aspx If you happen to come across the Big East Men's Soccer tie-breakers at some point, please post. Thanks again.
  8. Calm down please. I wasn't accusing you of anything. I was simply stating that I didn't want to continue that debate in the Women's Soccer thread.
  9. Thank you. Could you post the url where you found that? I was looking at the Big East site / men's soccer but didn't find that description. Also, did you see any description of the tie-breakers? Thanks again.
  10. Thank you for bringing this thread back to the Women's Soccer discussion! 👍
  11. Sorry you can't be there. (I know that feeling for the next game. Ugh) I can't answer "in any sport", but looking at the Zips Men's Soccer Media Guide, it looks like the last non-MAC conference win for Zips Men's Soccer was 10/27/1991 4-1 win at Western Illinois in the Mid-Continent Conference under Coach Steve Parker.
  12. Whatever...I brought the discussion from the off track Womens Soccer thread here where it's at least in a Men's Soccer discussion. LOL
  13. The expectations being discussed are not about 6 games and where we stand this season. Go back and look at the discussion. It's about the portfolio of work since 2018. Expecting to win an NCAA tournament match over the past several seasons is not asking too much of a program, including current coaching staff, that has high expectations.
  14. As I put in the title of this thread ... fwiw ... for what it's worth. Polls are about as meaningful as participation trophies. RPI is more relevant. Honestly, I don't understand your "beef" with Zips Men's Soccer fans expectations being so high. I remember when our head coach would apologize to fans for "poor performance". I thought it was strange at first but then realized that he wanted our expectations to be that high.
  15. Big East Conference RPI rank is sitting at 9 out of 23 as of 9/12/23 at 7:56 (am) PT. https://rpiupdatemenssoccer.blogspot.com/search/label/Conference RPI Rank
  16. With the Zips' first Big East Conference game Friday, I thought I'd post what I understand about the 2023 Big East Men's Soccer Tournament https://www.bigeast.com/sports/2023/7/26/2023-24_Championship_Page.aspx My understanding from what I've read is that 8 of the 12 teams make the 2023 tournament. Is that 4 from each division or the top 8 regardless of division? The first round games are played at campus sites [Saturday, Nov 4] The semifinal and final are played at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds Maryland [Thursday Nov 9th and Sunday Nov 12th, respectively]
  17. Nice to see some other players off the bench. Definitely needed fresh legs with the pace of this game.
  18. I honestly don't know how the United Soccer Coaches have the Zips at #5 after barely drawing Michigan and barely beating USI and LIU. USI continues to lose big to others having lost 0-4 to Evansville.
  19. #11 FIU (2-1-2) visits #5 Akron (4-0-1) Rankings are United Soccer Coaches poll through games of Sep 4, 2023 FIU's schedule thus far in 2023 W 2-1 at Oregon St W 4-0 v VCU D 0-0 v Central Arkansas D 2-2 v UCF L 1-2 v #24 New Hampshire
  20. Even without Messi (CONMEBOL WC Qualifying with Argentina), Benja Cremaschi (USMNT friendlies), and others during this "International break", Miami is still fun to watch these days...DeAndre Yedlin with a sweet assist...
  21. Happy to get the W's in these last 2 game. LIU is a better team than USI, and our Zips showed much improved performance in this match v that on the past Monday. We still need better. Less arrogance and more confidence, composure, concentration, and complete game mentality. Great seeing Josh Hallenberger back in action. I hope he is good for more minutes. I also hope Dyson will be available v FIU. IMO, more substitutions are going to be needed than we've seen recently when playing games every 3 to 4 days.
