Game 32—EMU [MAC Tourney Rnd 2]
bUAkronG replied to MontrealExposloveZippy's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
The only thing I would question is going away from Utomi down the stretch. And playing Klac so late in the game when we needed points desperately. Overall very proud of this team. A couple different bounces and EMU could've been buried beyond reach. -
Yep, I was thinking about that shot also. Hate how terrible that quality is of the video. I am the original uploader

Vote Niko De Vera Hero of the Week
bUAkronG replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Just voted. Can't ever doubt the passion of the Zips MSOC fans... De Vera has 88 out of 90 total votes so far. -
Just looking at the depth chart on verbal commits and wow, we are going to see pretty much a completely different team next year. And one that is super young. If I'm seeing things correctly, we are made up of mostly freshman and sophomores. It's going to be a long summer waiting for this team to take the court. I don't remember the last time I was this interested in Zips basketball this early before the next season.

And if what others have posted is true, add sh** talking opposing coaches to the list of reasons I'm not quite excited. If Groce was the second coming of John Wooden, I'd accept him as the head coach but that wouldn't mean I wasn't allowed to say he seems like an idiot on the sidelines.
-
I never said him having a poor demeanor made him less of a coach. I guess what I'm saying is all things considered I'm less excited about it than I should be based on my recollection of he used to behave. That said, if he's as great of a recruiter as everyone says he is, then I'm interested to see how this turns out. I think myself and lilroodude have the same outlook on him, essentially.
-
Exactly this. 100%. I think there's a fine line between fiery and belligerent and in my eyes Groce used to be on the wrong side of that line more often than not.
-
I'll just leave this here.
-
I was going to say, 'wow, I don't remember posting that!' lol
-
All I really remember about Groce is that I used to think he was an idiot whenever we faced OU. Always red faced yelling at officials. Count me in on those who wouldn't be over the moon about him coming here. Same goes for Geno Ford although thankfully it doesn't seem like he's a possibility.

No arguments there. I wasn't saying we were miles ahead of everyone. But we definitely have been the top of the MAC for more than a few years. Safe to say that the playing field is a bit more even in the MAC right now.

One thing is for certain and that's that I was extremely impressed with how Ivey developed between last year and this year. To me he should be the key player next year. He is a freak athlete. Hopefully Utomi stays as well because to me those two are guys you could build a team around. I bet the rest of the MAC is ecstatic right now.

2017 National Invitation Tournament (NIT)
bUAkronG replied to GJGood's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I just didn't want to get jumped on for not mentioning that there were some high major teams in the NIT that the Zips would likely have a hard time scheduling a home and home with. When I mention a low high major I'm thinking of teams like Georgia Tech and Illinois which come from high major conferences but in my eyes haven't really been household name teams in recent years. -

Hmm, not sure where I saw 90-78. I watched the first half. UTA got whooped that half. I did not watch the second half but when I checked the score on my phone they were down 20. I thought I saw the final score as a 12 point win so that's where the whooped comment came from. Zips should pursue a home and home with just about any of the teams that made the NIT. The field was full of quality mid majors and low high majors(Iowa, Cuse notwithstanding) -

Well CSU Bakersfield went into Arlington last night and whooped on UTA in a 90-78 win. Much like the game Monday night, it appeared like one team came out fired up and motivated and the other had a hard time playing their own game. I wonder how often 8 seeds make it to MSG. Just further hammers home the point that the seeding was all wrong. -

And adding insult to injury, CSU Bakersfield beat Colorado State so the Zips could have hosted them for a chance to reach MSG -
Zips at Texas-Arlington — NIT Round 2 (Mon 8 pm)
bUAkronG replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
If there ever was a play that summed up our game it's them hitting a 3 and us going down and getting the ball stuck in the backboard. On a positive note, Ivey proving to have a lot of heart. -

Disgusting. Josh Jacks up an NBA 3 early in the shot clock and UTA comes down for a slam dunk. This is going to be a long night.. -

After a couple UTA misses we are on an 8-2 run and within striking distance. Just have to play with maximum effort. -

I believe the general concesus is that most teams are less inspired to play in the NIT than the NCAA's, but really that's not saying anything ground breaking.
