Thanks! If there's one thing I learned about Akron when I was there - it's that a lot of people get in, but only the best get out. It provides an opportunity for a lot of people to get higher education, but I'd put my classmates up against most anyone that just graduated. It's a top engineering school, top 100 business school (out of 1000+ even though it's easy and generic) and a whole heck of a lot else going on and improving. Can't can sit by and hope their reputation from the 70's van get them by, but I'm proud of my alma mater.

I'm devastated. FYI my generic/easy business degree from our crummy university just got me an 87 on the first part of the CPA exam. If only I could've went to Can't.

Smaller industries = less grads getting jobs, right? Wouldn't you rather your school place more students into jobs from its marquee programs?

I consider a degree useful when it, you know, gets you a job. I'm sure the fashion and sign language industries are really hiring like crazy right now.

Golfed with a guy yesterday from Pittsburgh, his daughter is considering schools now. He saw my Zippy headcover and asked about Akron and the soccer team... "Akron, it's a lot better of a school then like Can't State right?" I was like heck yeah! Pretty pumped about that. Also another example of the perception outside of Akron being way better than that of locals.

There are still big bowls. 1998 was the last time the Big XII and SEC didn't have a team in the top 4. It's gonna be the SEC #3 team vs the Big XII #2 most years. Not exactly the be all end all of bowls. So the ACC doesn't have a "fixed" opponent every year, but their champ is still in the Orange bowl every year. This one extra bowl isn't going to be their demise. I could see the argument that this is the start of these 4 conferences eventually breaking away (which I still don't agree with, but it could be argued), but to say this extra game is the nail in the ACC's coffin isn't right.
