  1. Paterno's name removed from the B1G championship trophy
  2. Cleveland State punched an over rated Vanderbilt in the mouth. To be fair, Vandy played without their All-American point guard. Still, an excellent win for CSU. Ball State nearly punched out Arizona having led most of the game. That would have given the MAC two road wins over SEC teams. BGSU struggled against SEC team Georgia and pulled close at the end. If BGSU and Ball State capture victories the MAC would have a great RPI. Darn, there's that old woulda, coulda, shoulda. Dream on Zips. Zona is in the PAC-12. Still would have been a nice win...better than the SEC.
  3. The Judge who set bond at 100K unsecured (he doesn't pay unless he doesn't show up) was a 2nd Mile volunteer. sheesh. The prosecutors wanted 500K and an ankle bracelet since he was a flight risk. This is all messed up. The Patriot News will also have a story Monday on why it took so long for this to actually happen http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf..._report_co.html
  4. I post on a pittsburgh penguins board a good bit, and am the resident Akron fan there. Someone commented on the game to me.. "What about your Zips? That was a sweet road win over Miss St. They have the look of a Top 25 team. I will probably go see them play WVU later this month." Nice to see a little respect from people who aren't Akron fans.
  5. One of the victims' mothers is saying the police told her not to speak with reporters...this was in 98 i believe.
  6. lol really? What did MSU think we were doing at practice, playing tiddly winks?
  7. paterno and spanier are out.
  8. JoePa did everything he was legally required to do. But as a man who preached the Penn State Way, always doing the honorable thing, and morality above all else...he failed. Legally he was right, but morally, way off. Tell someone Joe, this was bigger than a football program. This is the quote behind his statue outside Beaver Stadium... "They ask me what I'd like written about me when I'm gone. I hope they write I made Penn State a better place, not just that I was a good football coach."
  9. Nothing surprises me when it comes to college athletics. You'd be amazed at the amount of crimes that were reported as soon as the AP opened in State College. JoePa ran the whole town until then, including his newspapers. He isn't the sweet old guy that everyone would want you to think.
  10. Exactly. No one wanted to be the one to bring PSU and JoePa down. Going the whole way from McQueary to JoePa himself to Curley/Spanier/Schultz the whole way to the DA who decided not to pursue the case when he had a confession from Sandusky.Ray Gricar, this DA, went missing in 05...talk about a weird twist that hasn't been talked about much.
  11. Tell that to Notre Dame. They're allowed to be independent. They just can't join another conference for football so long as they're in the Big East for everything else. You didn't mention independence."If your primary conference sponsors a sport that your school also sponsors, then you must participate within your primary conference for that sport."
  12. Tell that to Notre Dame.
  13. Reports that JoePa is done @ the end of this season at the latest. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/09/sports/n...ernos-exit.html
  14. Cancelled the presser 30 minutes before JoePa was to speak. Spanier cancelled it w/o telling Joe. Apparently Joe was ready to answer questions on the scandal as well as the game. Now there's hundreds of angry reporters in State College looking for a story...bad move PSU.
  15. I'd really hope no one is "thrilled" by any part of this.
  16. +1-72Nicely has beaten K.e.n.t. Moore has beaten...no D-1A team. He was 3-18 tonight. He's played 1 decent 1/2 of football the entire season. He needs to see the bench. rearranging the chairs on the titanic...we're going to get trounced regardless of who is QB'ing this team.
  17. On one hand, I'd say I'm not impressed with this team, but maybe the bar was set high from some people that have seen them.On the other hand, I hate judging teams on these D-3 games, since coaches would rather work on things instead of going for a big win. i.e. lob it to zeke every time and win by 50. So I'll hold my judgement until the MSU game. Gilliam is a baller.
  18. +1+2?
  19. Well that pistol worked out well. Stick to what you know rob, if it doesn't work fast enough, he'll be gone. But it's dumb, quite frankly to expect a pro style coach to implement a successful spread attack mid season.
  20. idk, if he truly believes the pro set is what he wants to do in the future, and believes it will succeed, this is a bad call. Recruiting players for one scheme, spending two years teaching that scheme and changing it so you don't lose as bad isn't gonna end pretty.-I've seen this situation at pitt (albeit the other way around) where Todd Graham is going from Wanny's pro style to the oregon fast pace spread. There have been some hiccups switching systems, but the people saying he should be going back to the pro style are wrong, imo. So basically this isn't me bashing RI, just saying if he's worked almost two whole years on the pro offense, i don't think it's a great idea to switch.
  21. This better not be a shot at me.I talk to the coaches all the time. However, I never mentioned anythingthat the lovely Nicole posted. Nor would I. I just sat back and watched. Her business is her business.Besides, I'm not a snitch. Maybe that person or persons meant well.Just rest assured that I am not involved.nope. just wondering if they thought it could have actually been an issue. probably better to drop it as mama zeke says.
  22. hmm now if we knew any posters that talk to the coaches..
  23. I hear that place is unreal. I can't sniff a ticket for there. I was looking to go to a game on Dec 29th, check out the ticket prices for 4 if your bored!?!? If anybody has a hookup for that game pm me. Check out the schedule of events. You're telling me. It's nuts. Used to grab Pens tix at the igloo for 20-40 bucks and now I'm lucky if i find anything under 80.
  24. Yeah there's 50+ hockey games there a year and maybe 6 bball games. My point was for having next to zero emphasis placed on basketball arrangements, everyone still loved it for the basketball games.
  25. Good ideas. Now, what is your plan to pay for it and maintain it once it is buillt? If we build it strictly for basketball, we'll never be able to pay for it even if we put in some high priced luxury suites and sell them off to local companies. But if we build it to host many different types of events then we can rent it out. Concerts, ice skating, monster truck rallies, and all sorts of crap like that.As soon as I see the word "ice" I get nervous.Any arena large enough to house an ice rink is too damn big for basketball. The university needs a new. larger, better basketball arena. It does not need anything that houses an ice rink.An ice rink is the kiss of death for basketball. It simply does not work at the college level. You guys are acting like it's 1975. The technology is there, it'll be fine. Consol Energy Center opened last year in Pittsburgh and Pitt and Duquesne each played a few games there. Each time the announcers raved on and on about how nice the place was for basketball. Ever hear of the Kohl Center? The Badgers do pretty well. RBC Center? Bradley Center? Madison Square Garden? Not to mention our's would be smaller and more intimate than, well, all of those. If it helps bring a new arena, and new things to Akron, I'm for it. It really isn't going to be a difference if it has a rink or not.
