Second round of conference expansion is beginning.
zippy5 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
Well, that throws a massive wrench in things. The rumors were there, but i thought it was just fanciful thinking because the logistics are much too complicated. I expect the MWC will invite more teams on a reactionary basis in the near future. This is a ridiculous development. Texas Christian in the Big East?! The BCS should revoke the Big East's BCS status. They're simply not worthy. lol you realize they are ranked #3? not to mention, who would their bid go to? The MWC who lost utah, tcu and byu? -
Bought two for today's game, and the delivery details on the order were blank. I'm hoping this means they are will call? As I haven't received them yet. I called the ticket office and of course they are closed. Any help?

You're killing me with this Brian Kelly example. Not saying you have a bad point, but, they stink.
 -
Brian Kelly, really? Have you watched a Notre Dame game this year? Given the talent at ND, I'd say he has maximized their potential. And to think, iCoach is partly responsible for that. Their last 3 recruiting classes are ranked #14, 21, and 2, respectively, according to Rivals. They have talent.

El'Rico Jones never made it through camp. I could've told you that would happen. Not even sure if he made it to camp. The kid went to a high school near mine. Not only was he probably not D-1 talent, he had a great knack for getting in trouble and getting bad grades.

He reminds me of Big Ben in '04. He was 14-19, nothing too great, 170 yards or so I believe. But not many mistakes. We'll see how he looks next year when they open the playbook for him, but I think he'll succeed. He seems like a hard worker with a good head on his shoulders. And he is a winner. Yikes, go Steelers

God the basketball team is refreshing. I hate the people that try to pit football vs. soccer vs. basketball, so I'll try not to sound like one. But we can all agree football sucked (understatement of the year) this season. Looking forward to some winning hoops!

With the exception of soccer, we would get demolished in the BE. Initially yes, as would UCF, or Villanova. Recruiting would obviously improve, moving up to a BCS conference. Don't get me wrong, we have 0% of moving to the BE. -

Browns fans are funny. You guys act like the pain of a helmet to helmet hit doesn't apply to Harrison. Plus, Massaquoi turned around and took 3 steps before he was hit. I'm not a 300 pound NFL player, but I'd imagine if Massaquoi couldn't slow down when he saw Harrison, it may have been a little harder for James to let up. He's pretty big. p.s. No one seems to be mentioning the helmet to helmet hit that sidelined Mendenhall at the end of the game.

Their "tradition" is alive and well today in Pittsburgh. James Harrison is a real good example of a Can't State athlete. Josh Cribbs is a good example in the other way (talks with the grammar of a 4 year old) but at least he's not a classless loser. Which hit would you describe as classless? I assume that's what you're talking about. The one on Cribbs, he was a running back at that point, so totally legal. Or the one on Massaquoi, when he took 3 steps before getting hit by Harrison? Anyways, I would describe him as more of a winner than a loser. At least Can't sucks though, I'll agree on that Neither hit was legal. They were cheap shots and Harrison deserves to be fined! Cribbs was already going down, so he lead with his head and wend right into the side of his helmet. MoMass was exactly the same as the TJ Ward hit he got fined for. Just goes to show you the extremes a team goes to in order to win. I guess the Browns could have targeted the steelers running back, but we're not that kind of team. We don't feel the need to knock guys out of the game to win. Want a comparison, remember Singletary's punch on Linhart? Punch our best player? refs missed it until they looked at the replay...wanted to ignore it... Can't state is classless the steelers are classless oswho is classless you clearly don't know the rules of the NFL. but this isn't an NFL forum so I will leave this alone. Go Zips! and Steelers

All I got out of that BS was that GPI is a liberal...That explains a lot about him. Everything seems to make a little more sense now. methinks you're wrong.

I'm fairly certain people would like to see RI fail, just to say they were right. Same goes with You Tube Tom.

Did anyone else see what Nicely did on the end zone fumble?
zippy5 replied to akronzips71's topic in Akron Zips Football
Defense played great and the coaches seem to at least have our troubles down to moving targets. I look forward to QB play not being an issue next week and I hope the defense stays where it is at. Just think about it. When the game was close in the 3rd, our defense held Can't State to 67 yards. And when we needed them, stopped them on 4th down and kept them to only 39 yards in the 4th quarter. Coaching has something to do with that. Now, as long as Nicely isn't texting Rasor and sending him pictures of his junk, I think we need to realize that games this bad, well they happen to QBs. You can't teach tall and rocket arm. He still has those. He needs to get back on track and play more like the QB who was getting rid of the ball too quickly in the Syracuse game. He can be taught to throw to other receivers and the hit the TE once in a while up the seam. Nicely has got to get better. It is hard to not lay this one at his feet. I'm confused as to why you quoted me. Your post has nothing to do with mine. -

Total mis-classification Let me fix that for you. To be filed under Bad Quarterback Play On the coin toss earlier this year where we elected to "kick" instead of defer, I'd be curious to know just how much the coaching staff emphasized "If we win the toss, DEFER to the second half." On being deep in our own end of the field, I wonder how strongly the coaches emphasized to Nicely that taking a safety if he had to still kept us within a touchdown ... that turning it over deep in our own end was far worse. Not sure our coaches (in-training) are doing a very good job at all preparing/coaching the players. Quite a few unnecessary penalties as well (illegal formations come to mind). We look 'green' and our record and play in general sure seems to back that up. My vote all along was to bring in an experienced coach AND staff similar to what NIU did when Novak left. A lot of people are just looking for ways to jump on the coaching staff, sometimes wayy too quickly. they have made some mistakes, but come on, you can't blame that fumble on them! Coach doesn't need to emphasize anything there. If Nicely doesn't realize the safety kept us within a TD, he shouldn't be playing college football. -
Never, ever, visit Happy Valley and not visit the Creamery. PSU has a college of Ice Cream. At the Creamery you can buy fresh made ice cream. PSU students make the fantastic concoction beginning right from on campus cows. Many believe this is the most important contribution made by PSU cheerleaders. hopefully it's not a weekend game or you'll be standing in line for a few hours because of the football fans there.
 -
At least give Nicely a start or 2 against a MAC team. Rodgers would have done equally as bad against an SEC team..

Been waiting for this for so long now. I was worried up until July-ish when they announced it, that there wouldn't be a second season. Awesome show.

Maybe a former player for the Director of Basketball Operations position. I would love to see Cedrick Middleton come back if playing in Europe doesn't work out for him. Any chance Dials would change his mind about working for the Sweaters? I know I'll get hammered for this, but it looks like the rats are abandoning the ship, like ASAP. Don't look outside your portals Zips fans, but that thar is an iceberg! One assistant coach moves on to a better position and a kid who graduated from the program 2 years ago and was never reported as having been offered a position on the staff takes a job with another school and the rats are abandoning the ship? Not sure I buy that. We've lost assistant coaches before (Shaka Smart and Jeff Boals both come to mind). I actually take it as kind of a compliment. Tells me that Dambrot is surrounding himself with good people and theres some recognition out there for the quality of program that we have been running here. Unless you are privy to some information that I'm not, I don't see how this is really an indication of a larger underlying problem. Not talkin bout one assistant coach Qz. Talkin about wholesale "changes", none of which at dis time appears mo bettah. KD is one of my favorite Akronites, no doubt, but my view from da i-lawns says da nex'two years are make or break time for UA BB. Unless Gamechanger's li'l one becomes a MAC POY type in the off season of one season, I don't see things gettin any better than last year. 4th place is not an unrealistic pick, given the circumstances. What does Dylan Ennis know that you don't? This may be your opinion, but I'd like to see guys like Euton, Gilliam, Egner, Abreu, Treadwell, etc, actually play together before I'd draw that conclusion. JohnnyZip, I wish I could share your confidence -- and, I'm hardly giving up on this team, but my analysis is, we've gone from competing with and at least once beating Big East and ACC teams for recruits, to being satisfied over taking "late-bloomers" and "hidden gems" recruited by the Wisconsin-Milwaukees and CSUs of the world. I think Dylan Ennis agrees with me. Outside of Zeke I can't think of one time where we've went up against Big East and ACC teams for a recruit and had any chance of winning out. A quick review of our history of recruiting on rivals bears that out. In fact, going back to 2004 I can only find a couple of recruits that the Zips even offered who had Big East & ACC offers. Brian Walsh-SG-2008 had offers from Maryland, West Virginia, Pitt & St. Joe's. Signed with Xavier, ironically recently transfered to Akron. Mike Shanahan-SG-2008 had offers from Pitt, Duke and West Virginia. Signed with Pitt. Zeke Marshall-C-2009 had offers from Pitt, Virginia and Virginia Tech. Signed with the Zips. Reality just doesn't line up with your line of thinking. Even the point about Dylan Ennis is invalid. Yes, Ennis decommitted from the Zips. His current list of offers, Nebraska, Northern Iowa, Rice, UIC, Creighton, and reportedly UW-Green Bay. Not a Big East or ACC school among them. People need to stop looking at Zeke's committment as some sort of sign that we are ready to consistently steal top talent from the power conferences of the college basketball world and see it for what it is. An outlier situation where all the stars lined up for us to nab a talented big man away from some very good programs. I'd put an * for Shanahan. He was definitely leaning here...but went to Pitt for football.
 -
Syracuse is nowhere near as bad as they have been lately. I'd say Pitt and WVU are the top 2, with Cinci and UConn 3-4. After that, a toss up between USF, Cuse, Rutgers with Louisville 8th, imo. Cuse could finish 5th, they could finish 7th, but I feel they're greatly improved. I still don't like losing 29-3 to the 5th place team in any conference.
 -
Ah so you're saying they can transfer to non-BCS schools? That's a slippery slope separating ourselves like that.
