I think it's safe to say, a win tonight gets this Joe Akron guy we hear about interested in Zips basketball again. don't mess it up.
-
No doubt.

I honestly dont think you read entire posts by people. He said they wear the shirt to get in those seats and YES the Oakland Zoo at Pitt does require you to have the shirt. I have been there myself multiple times. Down at Florida State they required students to wear the shirt to stand in the courtside bleachers that run 3-4 deep along the length of the floor, i have family that live there and family that go there and have been to multiple games and stood in that spot (my cousin lent me a shirt). Many if not most schools that have a special seating area for student groups require the shirt to be worn...that is a fact.haha okay man, I guess the semester I spent at pitt I was imagining not wearing my zoo shirt every game. And yes, florida state is most definitely known for their wild and packed student section. Silly me. If you're happy with our half full student section, and half full is terrible for only 176 seats, then more power to you.
-
I'm just giving some suggestions since some powers that be post here, don't take it the wrong way. We can all agree the student section isn't what we want it to be.
-
I disagree, most schools don't mandate the same shirt. Ohio does, and guess what? People are complaining about its attendance being down. Check out the zoo in pitt. They all wear the same shirt because its the cool thing to do, they don't have to wear it. Penn state doesn't mandate the fans wear white to every football game. Do the cameron crazies have to wear the same shirt? Why is our student section more exclusive than theirs? When we fill it up every game then make everyone wear pink shirts with bow ties for all I care.
-
Yeah right, 400 students. The ones that sit down low aren't just going to the game to sit on their hands. They actually are being loud and a real student section. The rules are the rules, if you dont want to bring a blue shirt then sit up top. You're not getting what I'm saying. I'm sitting down low, but unfortunately there aren't enough people willing to put up with those "rules" to ever fill the bottom sections.P.s. that attitude is a pretty big reason no one wants to sit with you guys. I'm just giving some suggestions.Go zips!

I have one. you don't get it, do you really think anyone wants to bring an extra shirt to sit down there. It'll work for this game, but this is why 30 people sit there every game. One game, they gave me a hard time sitting down there because I had the shirt from two years ago on. I almost couldn't sit down there until I convinced them that there would be 12 people down there anyway. Why make more "barriers to entry" when our support sucks as it is. Make it easy for students to get in and get excited, not a hassle. Honestly, there are at least 400 students at every game, scattered about, but only about 65 students sit down low, draw your own conclusions from that.

The wristband nazi's are at it again. Just got a facebook message that I have to wear THIS YEAR's rowdie shirt (blue) to sit down low, for the white-out. Little things like this is what make us second class.
-
Yeah, got my sides mixed up haha

I've said it before, I think there should be enforced student seating in the general admission areas behind the baskets (or an even better section would be great). I used to be one of those students who was scattered throughout the JAR. Should it have stopped me from cheering..no..but it did. I think the rowdies just need to hook fellow students, whether rowdies or not and get them involved in the game. If they all sit together they'll realize how its done...it's ok to be an Akron fan! I don't think some student are quite there yet. ...or just build a grass berm for everyone, that works tooopen up two of the reserved sections, hell they never fill anyway. make it students only/no students anywhere else, and they'd be full. it would get loud, exciting, a fun place to watch a game.
-
yeah but when one "clique" takes up half of the student section, it's a little different. don't kill the messenger! ;)also, look at football soccer games, all the students are in the student section.
-
Don't kill me, this is just my honest opinion. Like other posters have pointed out, the Rowdies have turned into a semi-sorta clique. There's like the 15 or 20 "regulars" that sit on the North side at the JAR and attend everything. Which is a great thing, but people don't want to be associated with them. Some think they get too "rowdy" some think they're too cool for the Rowdies. I'm not saying get rid of the Rowdies, but let all the students sit down there! when it gets full every game, instead of 3 games a year, then get exclusive. I used to sit down there every game, but none of my friends want to anymore, so I don't. There are hundreds, thousands? of kids like me that go to the games, but don't sit with the Rowdies. Make it a student section, not a Rowdie section. Make it the cool thing to do. It would be tough, but it would work really well if we could get all the students to sit in one section. Open a few reserved sections up? Make one GA above the basket students only? Just some suggestions, but we have one of the worst setups for student seating in the country.

Does anyone think its weird how there are multiple lane violations every single game? I honestly see one about every 20 games or so, outside of akron games...so weird.

The last word on Lee Owens vs. JD Brookhart
zippy5 replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
allow me to have the last word. they both sucked. everyone, including me, is wasting their time talking about them. The quicker we can forget about them both, the better. -
So even an ON CAMPUS stadium couldn't keepthe big bad city or it's henchmen awayMy controls>Manage Ignored Users>Type in username> problem solved. Looks like a personal problem, bandzip. Might want to get that checked by a shrink, eh?Aren't you the one that always complains about personal attacks?

I'm pretty optimistic most of the time, but you guys are seeing good close wins, and I'm seeing us playing down to the level of our competition.
-
And he will turn into our other three point specialist faster than you can say McLanahan. How is he supposed to have any confidence shooting the three knowing that two misses and he's out. Shooters shoot.

disclaimer- I think Cooper is a hell of a MAC player. Keyword = MAC. ...not really a word, come to think of it.

The "dude" is a freshman and previously had something like a 29 point game. Next year he will be a terror, and after that who knows...He definately has the moves.Steve French was comparing him to Len Paul. I saw almost every game Len Paul played (he was 6'3" BTW, not the 6'5" they were saying, he just played big) and this guy looks better. That inside move is sweet, and he looks like a dead on 3 point shooter. Wish we had him!so two 30 point games make you an NBA prospect? Exactly, he's a freshman. maybe, after his senior year he'll make it. We will see.No but anyone that has seen at least more than one basketball game in their life will tell you right now that he has LEGIT talent.NBA, who knows...but i think it's a fair assumption to say that if he continues to develop it's quite a possibility. He said he might go after this year. The chances of that are somewhere between zero and the chances of the Browns winning the super bowl next year.

hey it took us 2 timeouts to draw up that play!!! haha if KD took a 3rd timeout brett would have made that shotthat's what bothers me. two timeouts to draw up....nothing.If I didn't know better, I'd swear instead of eating cookies and jam during the timeouts those rascally Ohio Bobkittens were scheming how to stop us from doing what we wanted!!!!It's easy to stop when there was no attempt of even running a play by the Zips. Did you even watch the game?

That's the best out of bounds play we could come up with, with 4.1 left? stand around, lon it to Brett McKnight who takes a fadeaway 18 footer. geeez.
