  1. Akron only up 4. The Zips are playing to Duquesne's tempo. This is not good.
  2. How many blocks does Romeo have so far?
  3. Wow. Way too many turnovers. It's hard to get into a rythm when Duquesne plays like they are now.
  4. Rybak hits a long 2. Akron up 60-51
  5. Quade has four fouls, so Travis goes back in the game.
  6. Quade looks hurt. Possible flagrant foul. Ouch.
  7. It's BGSTD, and I don't think Romeo will be in the game enough to match last game. If we get a nice lead, he will rest.
  8. Rybak for 3!
  9. Akron up 36-30. What happened to our lead?
  10. So if Akron would have made a better percentage of their free throws they would probably be undefeated is what I get from that! Exactly. We are only about 20 points away for the whole season from being the only undefeated team in the country. It sucks, but there is nothing that can be done about it now, except to make sure we do better for the remaining games. I hear that Duquesne fouls teams alot, so that game might come down to free throws again and I don't like that.
  11. I agree.I really hope that JD has learned from last year and will keep pushing the team even further, even after big accomplishments. They should never be satisfied with the outcome. I don't care if we beat OSU by twenty, its only one game. I hope the team won't rest on any percieved laurels. You have to do the job and do it well before you can relax and celebrate.
  12. Please let the Browns take him...Please let the Browns take him...Please let the Browns take him...
  13. OK, so Athlon's 2007 football packet is out already. If they are to be believed, the MAC east will be a two team race between Ohio and Akron with a huge dropoff after those two. The west is pretty open with Ball State, WMU and CMU all having good/great years. Our non-conference schedule could go either way. With the exception of the game in Columbus we have a very realistic chance to win every game, if our recruits can live up to their hype. I guess it really depends on what is happening with the whole MAC scheduling debacle. i can't believe the MAC didn't already figure out how its schedule would be with the addition of Temple. They've had years to figure out how to do it, and they still screwed up. I can't wait untill the Big East breaks up. That might be our only chance to get out of this bush-league conference.
  14. Are you guys taking a bus or driving together?
  15. I've been at the north end several times this season and there are just some folks who sit there (literally sit) who just won't get into it regardless of how the die-hards try to get them going. Disappointing, but true. I don't think you can fault the die-hards there. The least the folks at the north end who don't want to be involved could do is at least stand up or try to look involved some of the time. Can't make them do it though--have to make them want to do it. I don't know what people want from the Zips in order to care. They already have 21 wins on the season and were getting votes in the coaches and AP polls. Sometimes I get the feeling that even if we would win a national championship, they wouldn't care. We would be called a fluke and they would go back to cheering for OSU at the start of the next season, and the Zips would have to start from scratch all over again. They just don't want to care, and there isn't a thing we, or the teams, can do about it.
  16. I guess I'll just tell you what I saw and didn't see from the north side last night, and what I saw and didn't see from the south side last night. This is not to bash anybody, nor is it to say one side is better than the other, because that would be stupid, especially because of the fact that if we go to any more games this year, we will all be sitting together in a GA section somewhere. The good:- Both sides were loud. I could here all of the chants clearly for most of the game. Of course, that might be because the rest of the crowd was as silent as ever for a great deal of time.- Some communication between the sides. For a few chants both sides were in sync with each other. it is a shame it took almost until the end of the season to get to that point. Maybe if there were leaders on both sides with walky-talkies to communicate we could have done that from the beginning. Oh well, too late now.- Dakich almost getting a "T". That can be credited to a few particularly obnoxious fans on the south side (you know who you are), as well as the refs. When he ripped his jacket off, that was awesome. When a certain AK-Rowdy ripped his yellow shirt off to reveal a referee's shirt and imitate Dakich, well that was even more awesome. I hope the video of that shows up on Youtube soon. AwesomeDude has it, I think. The bad:- Don't take this the wrong way, but during the first half, when BUGS were shooting free-throws towards the north end, there were about 15-20 kids directly behing the basket just sitting down and talking to eachother. They did this for every free-throw taken in the first half instead of making noise or at least showing some interest in what was happenning. I think that is where a lot of the complaints about the north side are coming from.- Going with my last point, the die-hards that sit on the end of the north section didn't try, at least from my perspective, to get those people who were sitting down at least a little bit motivated. I don't know since I wasn't over there, so maybe someone else can explain that to us.- There was a lack of originality that I saw last night. The free-throw scissors-chop thing was an exception to a pretty weak stable of chants. I don't know where the old school defense chant that the north side started doing came from, but I liked it, even though I didn't hear all the words. We need new cheers and stuff. That is a basic summary of what i saw. It doesn't matter anymore, though. We are all going to sit together in one big group anyways at Can't State and in Cleveland. Lets just try to move on, shall we?
  17. That has nothing to do with the the relative rowdiness of each side. The south side has more crazy, obnoxious, loud fans than the entire north end even though the north end has twice as many students. Why is that?
  18. We're going to beat Duquesne. They're playing like crap and have lost five in a row. It is going to be a nice game to show off in one of our primary recruiting areas. Any team would have been lucky to survive BGSU the way they were shooting yesterday. If Romeo plays like he did yesterday, he won't let us lose. Hopefully yesterday has motivated the team to play better.
  19. I totally agree. At least now we won't have to complain about it again until next season.
  20. It's not "allowed" anywhere. In fact, the NCAA hands out fines for it if you look it up. Besides, this was hardly an appropriate game to "storm the court." We beat a last place team by 6 points! COME ON! Storm the court when...?The Zips defeat a top 25 team at home (this would've been the case vs Nevada) YES!!!!The Zips beat the 2nd place team in the MAC East. NO!!!!The Zips beat the last place team in the league, senior night or not. NOOO!!!!!!The Zips beat Can't State either handily or on a last second shot...MAYBE!!!The Zips beat Can't State to win the MAC Championship. YES!!!The Zips beat ANY TEAM to win the MAC Championship. YESSSSSSS!!!!Use this as a guide in the future. I wanted to storm the court because this was Rome and Dru's last game at the JAR. They deserved to be surrounded by fans celebrating 4 years of being awesome. They earned it. I wasn't the only one thinking that, either.
  21. I guess my post was directed more toward the AK-Rowdies than anyone. Having only 9 there including me is pathetic, especially for senior night. I know a lot of people are busy and I can't blame them if they can't come. I've had to miss games because of work, so I'm guilty of that too. It's the students that should be there. The AK-Rowdies were out-numbered by Buffalo fans. You know you have a problem when there are more opposing fans than students at a college game. I have seen the effect that a large student group can have on the women's team. It makes them play harder, and better. I know they would have won more games than they did at the JAR if there were even thirty students there instead of the usual five or six. This team has so much potential and youth, just wait a few years and we might have a winning team on our hands for the first time in a long while.
  22. Just got back. A few meaningless thoughts. I'll probably have more in the actual post-game thread. Romeo had the best night of his life, and we still only won by 6 points. Scary.HUGE crowd, but the north side of the AK-Rowdies were sitting down for 90% of the game. WTF? Jochich, er Dachich, or whatever his name is; when he tore his jacket off, that was the BEST moment I have ever seen in the JAR. Thanks refs. Also, when Nate Miller's mom gave the Rowdies the finger... sweet. So many free throws. So little good free throws. We should have had at least 110 points. Why weren't the AK-Rowdies allowed to storm the court? I think we are one of only a few schools who don't allow it. Dru got the all-time assist record, with at least four games left. Good job!
  23. I agree. Lets build up some depth for the Tournament. Getting experience in a hostile environment is huge for the developement of the players.
  24. I'm posting this during halftime at the Womens game. They are down double digits, and the crown support is disapointing at best. These girls deserve better. There have been more travelling calls in this first half than I have seen in a game all season. It's a shame. I really hoped that more people would show up, especially the AK-Rowdies. There are less than ten of them. On the bright side, some of the Men's team players are there to support the team. I really don't know what the point of me posting this is, but why not. If you can still make it to the game, try to get here. If you miss it, you can always go the Track championship instead. It is a big weekend in Zips sports. Come on and show some support for your teams! (not really, but still)
  25. If the Browns take Brady Quinn, I'll become a Jets fan.
