  1. He will have to sit out a year. Looks like he originally signed with Ohio U.
  2. Does everybody remember this article?
  3. New York does it one way, but that's not the way I'm referencing. I'm talking modeling things after the University of California system or the University of North Carolina system. They're not the only state universities in their respective states. NEO University would have at least NEO Akron, NEO Can't, NEO Youngstown, NEO Cleveland, and NEO Stark. Five separate main campuses with specilizations, and branch campuses all over. All under the same leadership. It would dominate state higher education, and most importantly it creates a brand that instantly identifies everyone involved as being a part of something. It's much easier to promote the system as a whole, nationally. You can promote every involved university's strengths as your own, and discard weaknesses that other campuses do better.
  4. if done correctly, you could even keep the sports teams separate, if you so desired, by calling it a "system" with multiple campuses like the U of California system. A system doesn't need to encompass every state university in a given state, and you can have mutiple, competing systems.
  5. No word on him or D'Orazio
  6. http://www.wkyc.com/story/news/local/akron/2015/05/08/just-in--akron-mayor-plusquellic-announces-resignation/26994885/ Honestly, it's overdue.
  7. Now that I think about it, another solution is a combined NEO University, with differentiated/specialized campuses. The reason that the three universities named are who they are, is because in the case of OSU and UC they absolutely dominate their regions, and Miami has set itself apart by catering to a specific demographic throughout the state. In the north, you have competition without much differentiation, between Akron and Lent, and Toledo and Bowling Green. The situations are almost mirrors of each other.
  8. This is where a commitment to athletics comes into play. There is no other force out there that gets a university into the public's eye as effectively as athletic success.
  9. Periscope doesn't have an Android client, and Meerkat's Android support isn't that great. Why can't we just use something well known and supported like UStream?
  10. When you strive for mediocrity, the MAC is where you turn.
  11. The offensive line is going to look very different than it did in the Spring Game.
  12. Nmesoma Okafor signed with the Bengals. Surprised D'Orazio hasn't been picked up.
  13. What's going to happen is that everybody is so worked up about the name changing, they'll announce that the university is eliminating a bunch of programs and changing to a Poly school but the name is staying the same, and people will be just fine with it because they got to keep the name. People have it backwards. Who cares what it's called, so long as the university remains intact?
  14. Didn't one of them keep putting his initials on all the sports marketing stuff? Like "by LB" in small script underneath everything? I though it was funny as an Akron visiting Toledo, but I really hope we don't have an egomaniac trying to work his initials into cheers or the Rowdies or something.
  15. Even if it was inadvertent, he has managed to get a lot of people feeling passionate about the university. That's the spin I'd put this mess through backchannels if I were him.
  16. Yeah, like that time football won the MAC Championship, soccer won a NCAA championship, basketball won the MAC multiple times and was in the MAC Championship game every year. Totally a losing period. Not like the era when the Z logo was being introduced, where none of those things are happening in the major sports.
  17. Looks better than the Z.
  18. Maybe UA can pay up to replace the beat up chain-link fence surrounding the track. Put in brick and iron all around, like it is along Union street. It's the least they can do for a program at this level, and it would go a long way toward making campus look more appealing from Exchange.
  19. Jawon Chishol is getting a tryout with the Steelers.
  20. Sounds like Justin March is getting a shot with the KC Chiefs.
  21. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/4073680/james-works https://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-James-Works-161063 http://247sports.com/Player/James-Works-15322 He might have more D-I offers than the rest of the 2015 class combined.
  22. It's basically re-focusing the university. We'll probably see some of the liberal arts programs jettisoned and an even greater focus on STEM stuff. They already made a big change earlier this year by re-configuring Summit College into the College of Applied Science and Technology, which focuses on IT and Allied Health.
  23. Caught this on Twitter: The JAR is getting re-floored. The doors to the main arena are all locked, even for the upper track, so you can only get a peek at it through the little door windows. https://twitter.com/AkronZipsFans/status/594233959422304256
  24. This whole thing sounds like a resumé-stuffer move.
