  1. Interesting. He's rated as a 3-star across the board, but all the recruiting outlets have him leaning in different directions. "Soft commit" is saying that we're his leader, until he decides that we're not. Good news is, we've been in the lead since early August now.
  2. Played 21 minutes, had 5 points (nailed a corner 3 and hit two FTs), 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 block.

  4. Attendance lags behind how good a team is by a year or two. Several years of sustained winning records and bowl appearances (and conference championship games) are required to see a real improvement. And it absolutely has to be sustained. One good year won't help.
  5. Article with Zips QB Matt Hoyer
  6. Generally, when the receiver is open, he catches the ball. Unless they're an Akron receiver, and they let it bounce off their hands.
  7. Akron made it onto the Colbert Report today (at 1:38), though apparently the city picked up and moved to Middleburg Heights.
  8. Looks like it's going to be chilly and rainy. Look for a heavy emphasis on the run game on offense. Too bad, because I think the pass game needs more work. Especially the receivers cleaning up dropped passes.
  9. Jan Johnson article on Hustlebelt
  10. https://twitter.com/MACSports/status/516220393334792194 In case anybody is interested.
  11. Then he can't complain when the stands are empty because the opponents aren't exciting to watch.
  12. This win really couldn't have come at a better time. Last year the only positive national news we had came from keeping it close with Michigan. That game has looked worse and worse since that point, and until Saturday we really didn't have anything to hang our hat on.
  13. Not so much the MAC leadership as the referees themselves. They were auditioning for the ACC and Big Ten, who pay refs several times more per game than the MAC.
  14. If you've been on campus at all this semester and tried to use the wifi, you'd know that the network infrastructure is failing and needs replaced. Back in 2005, I think, we were one of the first schools to have campus-wide wifi and cutting edge network equipment. Unfortunately, it hasn't been updated much since then.
  15. The only big concern I have this week is that Akron doesn't prepare well enough coming off of a big win.
  16. You just have to realize that many Akron fans have no idea how to react to winning a big game. It hasn't been done since 2008 when we beat Syracuse. You should also keep in mind that the hardcore Zips fans, the ones on this board, have watched the program go from winning a conference championship to one of the worst teams in the history of college football (no exaggeration) in just seven years. All that's left after something like that is negativity. It's been a long, long time since we've had something to be excited about, and we've lost a lot of fans along the way. We're still figuring this out, and many are understandably cautious because they've had their hopes crushed too many times.
  17. Should tremendously help with recruiting in the WPIAL.
  18. Where would he rank if the ball didn't bounce off receivers' hands three or four times a game?
  19. CVCA is historically one of the best high school soccer programs in the country.
  20. Actually, yes. With Justin March out, the second-team SAM couldn't stop Marshall's running backs. With Dylan Brumbaugh out, the second-team right guard couldn't protect against Marshall's defense. With both Jawon Chisholm and Conner Hundley out, the second-team running backs couldn't gain any significant yardage and they couldn't help with pass protection.
  21. Not sure what happened. Usually only happens if the coach said something nasty to the ref or AR. Or if the fans are out of control.
  22. Zips up 2-1 at 35'
  23. There's not much depth at most positions. Right now that's the biggest issue.
  24. Not much info out there, except that he's from Nigeria, and he looks like he's 30 years old.
