  1. I loved the video too! I had many a great day or night at the bowl. BTW I still love the stylized "Zips" at center field. It was a classic to me. No one else had that.
  2. Zipmeister may be under your skin only because he employs very cerebral humor to get his point across. He is no fool. Compared to Arth he loves this staff. He probably did watch Leave it to Beaver and by no means is he a youngin. Now if you are the Ward from Ward and June Cleaver fame you may find you have a lot in common with the Meister.
  3. You gotta be kidding me! There are better high school gyms.
  4. I guess I looked at his transfer thru my Joe colored glasses. CK and Zippy made some good points. I still hate losing a good one that we had first crack at. Good luck Michael.
  5. I can't help but think there is a back story to this. Michael is not going to a significantly better program. A case can be made that UA has a higher ceiling under JoMo than WKU does. He seems to have made his decision well after the JoMo hiring and presumably the chance to talk to Joe and his position coach. So why leave? Under Joe he may get the ball more. There has to be more to this.
  6. Any time we lose to Kent it's a bitter pill to swallow. Unfortunately, this time we got out hustled, out-coached and out-played. The hustle is on the players and sometimes you just don't play as well as you can, but JG can do something about the coaching. The team has no confidence in the offense. Ali forces too much, Tribble has no outside shot or free throw, Trimble is a streak shooter and Clarke doesn't shoot while being prone to turnovers. Yet I agree with another poster that this team has some semblance of balance. Still JG has not installed an offense that the team can go to for points. How many times did our guards come down the floor and waste 10 seconds standing at the top of the key dribbling and watching with no movement to be found? JG is too good of a coach to let that continue. The makeup of this team is compatible with moving the ball around until someone gets free. Let that player shoot. Simple. We are too good to be playing like this. The coaches must solve it. I believe Groce will. This is a wakeup call.
  7. To Capt'n and all the others who have commented on our new AD his most impressive action may not be in coaches or game experience, but in the administrative staff he has recruited. He got rid of all of Williams staff, except for one who was reassigned, and brought in athletic administrators who were not afraid to challenge the status quo. They seek any change that is for the better. Leadership is the most important factor in any organization and ours has taken a mega-leap forward.
  8. MD, no confusion here. If there are no smart-assery comments then it clearly is not from my friend Zipmeister. He is incapable of not tweaking the reader's nose. We played on the same Zip team years ago and I have been tweaked many times. It's his way of showing love.
  9. Please get out of your mom's basement and learn to talk Zip sports. That's what we are all here to do. You have become so boring. 😴
  10. EW, thank you so much ! That was such a joy to watch that again. You made my day. I appreciate you sharing it. Go Zippy! Go Zips!
  11. It is just incredible to me how Joe is methodically filling our talent gap. He's just begun and there is joy returning to the faithful. I can't wait to see what the talent looks like when they report August 1. Joe's competence and professionalism serves to remind me that we should never accept crap when our eyes tell us otherwise. The debacle of the Arth years lasted one year too long in my mind. I hold no malice toward him and his staff. I wish them well, but they were not good for us in any way, shape or form. Williams deserves all the criticism for the hire and his cowardly exit before the season.
  12. Man, you are really full of yourself today. Stick to sports, they're more fun. How about saving the world on another website. Now go have a beer, eat pizza and cheer on the Zips. In Joe we trust!
  13. Thanks for keeping your focus on Zip sports. I hope you feel better after your educational thesis. I bet the Pangolins have a hell of a team this season.
  14. I think you are dead on! The public's perception of UA is poor (I was going to say horrible). There are so many exceptional programs at UA like nursing and yet the public doesn't know it or won't accept. I do lecturing in the sales program in the college of business. I tell everyone who will listen in my classes that they should and must be proud of their education. Sales has a 100% placement rate out of Akron and the program is rated in the top 5 in the country out of 38 that offer a true sales discipline, not just sales classes. We all need to tout our school whenever possible.
  15. Merry Christmas to all ZNO and the mods who make this possible. I have been on this site for years, if not decades, and I find it is generally a fun place to visit and post. Thank you all for making it possible in one way or another. It's good to be a Zip! Peace.
  16. Arth should have removed him from the staff after the second season of horrendous O line play. I understand that they were friends from a long way back, but a leader has to separate friendship from performance. I'm so glad Guthrie cleaned house.
  17. I also offer good luck to Zach. I do not believe that GT gave him a scholarship. Preferred walk-on maybe, but little else. He just wanted to get the hell away from Akron and he succeeded. He should have stayed and benefited from a good, competent coaching staff, which he never had. But that's his decision. I do not share the attitude that he could have led us to better days. His improvement over the last 2 years has been admirable, but not to the level that we could win big. If he doesn't want to stay, thanks for your time here.
  18. Got to agree with the Captain on this one. In Joe we trust.
  19. I'm surprised there is so much discussion on the Transfer Portal. It is here to stay. The coaches and the NCAA brought this on when coaches began breaking contracts and leaving for greener pastures with no responsibility or accountability to the programs (or contracts) they were leaving. It was just a matter of time before the players got equal treatment. The NCAA is complicit because they prioritized money over all else when they allowed the P5 CFP to be formed and become independent. They surrendered any authority to protect the best interests of the game. As most of us thought they never really cared to begin with. The NCAA further feared lawsuits and the loss of money from players who sought NIL. It was approved and the players got more power. The NCAA gave in to that growing power by creating the Transfer Portal to show players were not employees and therefore could not unionize thus allowing schools and the NCAA to keep their money. The TP is here to stay and I have a hard time criticizing any player who uses it. That being said I hate losing Matheson and Mumpfield.
  20. That's one thing we can all agree on. I'm excited to see what coach JoeMo can do.
  21. Snipe all you want, but this coach and staff know exactly what they are doing. Trust the process. They are getting the talent we need, just not the way you want. I trust their competence over your preference. Perhaps over the last three years you have forgotten what competence is. It is easy to forget when it is nowhere present so I guess you can be forgiven. You are forgiven my son, now go in peace and say five Hail JoeMO's.
  22. You have overlooked Georgia, which has emerged as a better area to recruit than Ohio/W Pa. But to your point, Georgia may also be well covered by our new staff. JM is surrounding himself with a rock star group of assistants. I hope Mumpfield reconsiders. This very well can grow to be a super place for him to be, especially considering, as others have wisely pointed out, few athletes ever make it in the pros.
  23. There are several posters here who are skeptical or disliking Guthrie. Give the guy a chance. Go talk to him. You will be impressed and you will have hope that he can turn our dumpster fire around. He inherited a mess. Williams took the cowardly route out of Akron saying he couldn't handle the changing environment in college athletics meaning he did not want to put the work or commitment into righting the Zip ship. He also didn't want to live with his lousy hire for football. It will take Guthrie time. He can't do it overnight. He made the excellent call in firing Arth. He has put other coaches on notice. He expects performance, not excuses. He has not cut the budget any further, in fact he is looking for ways to reward performing programs. BTW, football has one of the biggest budgets in the MAC. Funding is not the issue. Leadership, or lack thereof, is. All I'm saying is give the man a chance.
  24. Please no Petrino. He is a morally bankrupt coach, who knows how to win. And then he sets back programs. IMO DocHolliday is not the answer. Gotta admit I like Getsy a lot. We need to feel good about this hire and rally around him ASAP.
