They got quite a bit of field work to do before they get to laying the turf. But, per our resident posters who took the tour they said they'd start working on the field the end of April. equipment on the north end should be gone relatively soon. They're nearly halfway done, if not farther, with the brickwork. All this work recently is really making me excited!!Thanks for the info.It looks like they're closing in on finishing the brickwork on the endzone facility from the top where I can see the brickwork from the cam.I'm thinking a lot of that equipment will be gone by next weekend.

All this work recently is really making me excited!!If they are truly done with the south end zone slope grading I wonder if they'll plant the grass on it soon? Or would that get destroyed working on the scoreboard?I think the grass planting will come later as they're grading the South end slope today. I'm getting jacked seeing the field work and south end slope work today. I'll be in town Memorial Day and plan on going over for in person look.

Here's the right linkhttp://www.akronnewsnow.com/sports/itemdet...otball_Rivalry_The game is actually September 18th with kickoff slated to take place at 7 o'clock. My nephew is thrilled. He's an assistant coach at Hoban. They were going to playing at Hoban this year as UofA wanted to the first game ever played at the Info. But, once UofA signed to play Morgan St they told Hoban-SVSM if they wanted to schedule the game for Friday of the next week they could have that night. They signed it as like the article says. Neither Hoban's Field, Dowed Stadium or St. Vincent-St. Mary's Stadium on Green Street have been large enough to handle the over 10,000 plus fans that usually attend.

I added some new and older pictures of the stadium. They are atInfocision Stadium.Scroll down to see the latest photos with the new dorm foundation work. (Latest pictures are 6681-6704. I cannot get the older pictures to move to the beginning for some reason.)Great new shots. Thanks

1-AA teams are the scrimmages. All the NCAA did by going to 12 games is add a week so BCS teams can scrimmage small schools. We should be doing the same thing.AgreedI'm looking at many of the Div 1A schools and most of their Non conference games are glorified scrimmages. Try Florida your defending National Champions opens the season.09/05 Charleston Southern Div 1AA of FCS 7-5 last year. Lost to Miami (FL) 52-7 and Miami (OH) 38-27 09/12 Troy from rent-a-win SBC. They won the SBC last and scored on just about everybody. But, their defense was like swiss cheese losing to the Oklahoma St 55-24 and blowing a 31-10 lead to LSU losing 41-31. That's looks like couple of scrimmages to open the season too me.

The clearest the field area has been since they started the project. I'm guessing will be seeing the field work start pretty soon like they said.

We always had three preseason scrimmages back in the 1970's in Ohio.We call it Hell week. The first controlled scrimmage would the Saturday two weeks before your first regular season game. The 2nd controlled scrimmage was either Tuesday or Wednesday of the following week. The last scrimmage played like game conditions (kickoffs, punts included) was always played Friday or Saturday. It was bad week in terms of putting your body through three games in seven or eight days. But, it was worth it not having the rust to deal with in the opening game.My Nephew who coaches at Hoban has to be thrilled as he's been telling me that missing the 3rd scrimmage has been hurting them in terms of getting the kids ready.Spring football is why they only play one scrimmage or preview game here in Georgia.

forget that the facility includes academic space to be used throughout the yearforget that that the endzone facility will be used for sports medicine for all sportsforget that that the stadium will be used for high school football gamesforget that that a Zips game is one of the cheapest and most entertaining sports venues in the northeast ohio region. (best bang-for-your-buck)forget that that this stadium was under construction long before the financial crisis even hitforget that that the stadium was LONG overdue for the university.\unless you were being sarcastic... in which case that was poorly played.I was pretty sure trimmy was referring to the Minnesota facility rather than the Zips cause we normally only get 5 home games per year.Minnesota started their project about 8 months before UofA started the Info. I'm sure this person was making a dig at UofA since we do have six home games this fall.

I can confirm this. When I left on Friday, there was no sign of an impending demolition. I return on Monday and there's a little dirt pile and some rocks where two whole building used to be. There's really nothing to take a picture of, besides finally having a full view inside the stadium from Exchange.I would still love to see a picture.

I apologize to anyone that feels I berated or belittled their questions on this topic. That was never my intentIt was not that I didn't care. I felt it was already answered at the Stadium site and I may have been too heavy handed when I responded too questions about the topic here.I once again apologize to anyone I may offended and if you guys wish to discuss it further. You won't get further interference from me on this topic.
-
AGREED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Here's a radical concept for y'all. If a discussion or topic doesn't interest you, then you don't participate in it.Good grief. :blink:It's not interest it's overkill on the same topic.I already said in your defense you hadn't asked the question before. If, look back through the Cams live 50 plus pages and growing thread. You'll see the very topic been asked and asked many times already.

AGREED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...which, again, doesn't answer the question I'm asking.I get it that "similar to" the Rubber bowl and Field House, and "looks like grass, but it isn't" are enough to satisfy your curiosity. I get it that it's all "field turf" to you. No problem. Whatever works for you.As for beating the subject to death, if I'd seen my question answered already at the UA Stadium site or in another thread here, I wouldn't have asked it.In your defense you haven't asked it before. But, others have.I have no curisoity as the site answered any questions I'd have. If, the site answer is too vague for you. I suggest you email the AD office for further clarity.But. I bet they'll tell you is going to be similar to. Rubber Bowl, Stile Field House and Schrank Field

No need for an attitude, Big Guy. We're all friends here, I think, or at least all on the same side. And I think we're all aware that the carpet-on-concrete days are over. What I'm curious about is what KIND of filled system InfoCision will have... 'cause they're not all the same. In fact, they're not even close to all being the same. And they are certainly not all the same as the AstroPlay product at the Rubber Bowl.If the difference doesn't interest you, I'm cool with that. But the difference is of interest to me. Okay? Thanks in advance.I don't have an attitude. I just tire of us beating the same topics to death. The UofA stadium site says this.Summa Field’s Playing Surface:Synthetic (similar to Rubber Bowl, Stile Field House and Schrank Field).I've been on all three and they're what I call field turf. Why are we asking the question when the UofA site clearly says what it's going to have?No attitude. Field turf to me is field turf. Looks like real grass. But, it isn't.I've walked on them From Ohio to Georgia and they all look like real grass. But, are not.
-
Big Guy, what you are not understanding is that there are multiple companies that make synthetic surfaces. Some are excellent surfaces, some are not. That's why it's important what company is making the synthetic surface. Just because a synthetic surface may look like the FieldTurf brand, it doesn't mean that it's a quality synthetic surface. There are differences in durabililty, playability, traction, etc, between the manufacturers and their surfaces on the market. We all know that carpet-type surfaces are not used anymore. That's a given.I prefer natural grass over anything synthetic, but it's not realistic to have grass in this stadium given the multiple events that Info will be used for, especially in the fall. If you are going to use a synthetic surface, then the FieldTurf brand of synthetic surface is what I would want, not the AstroTurf brand of synthetic surface.TennesseeZippyAll I know is it says this.Summa Field’s Playing Surface:Synthetic (similar to Rubber Bowl, Stile Field House and Schrank Field).I been on all three surfaces and they are the field turf type of surfaces. Looks and plays like real grass. But, is synthetic. It's field turf. Here's the total historyhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FieldTurfAll these companies may use the name Astro turf or Astro play names. But, it's all field turf they install. No one and I mean no one installs the carpet on concrete anymore. The surfaces on the Rubber Bowl, Stile Field House and Schrank Field are field turf surfaces. Looks like real grass. But, isn't.That's what they're installing at the Info.

That's why Astro play AKA Field turf is being used these days and used across the board. You have HS putting in Astro play/field turf because in 10 year period it's cheaper having an Astro play/field turg playing surface Vs Grass.I played on the original Astro turf the stuff they installed at the Rubber Bowl in 1973. I hated it.I played on grass from the nice to the rough.I've been on Astro play/field turf fields.I would love playing on Astro play/field turf. Light years ahead of the original Astro turf and the other verison of Astro turf that came out inthe early 1990's. That still was carpet on concrete.
-
You guys kill me.http://www.astroturf.com/astroplay.htmFilled Systems - Fields that look like grass... and perform better Get a field that looks like real grass, But, out preforms it.In other words field turfNo one uses carpet on concrete anymore unless you want lawsuits for injuries.Astro play/Astro turf are all field turf these days. (Looks like real grass)
-
Why do we keep asking this question? The answer available at the stadium information site.http://www.uakron.edu/stadium/quickfacts.phpSumma Field’s Playing Surface:Synthetic (similar to Rubber Bowl, Stile Field House and Schrank Field). All of the above mentioned are Field turf.

Thanks for all the great shots. MRasor is reporting in his blog they'll begin laying the field in about 50 days. It's going really start looking like a stadium then.
-
Thanks for the extra effort, some great shots in there - oh my gosh, seat backs. Awesome shots. Once again I'm totally blown away on the progress they've made. I love seeing the seat back backs. The 50 yard line short of the east side is great. It's time for another aerial shot so I can update my screensaver from the Feb 24th picture.

I'm hoping somebody post pictures from the tour today.

Come on fellas, let's not get this topic locked! This thread has to be some kind of ZipsNation record! 53 pages, 780 replies and counting! I'm cool and that's why I keep using This time I'm really done with arguing since we've gotten a friendly reminder from the Mods. I want this thread to continue right up to kickoff 09/12.

As an FYI. construction at InfoCision Stadium/Summa Field remains on schedule As an R to your FYI. I agree 100%, give or take 45 days. :blink:The Stadium will be ready before 9/12. The dorms will ready in 2010 The classrooms will be ready before 2nd semester 2010 Will there still be construction going on after 9/12? Of course, the dorms and the classrooms on levels 2-4 of press tower. InfoCision Stadium/Summa Field remains on schedule and the early work you continue to see today and late work at night during the week is so the the Stadium in made ready as early as possible. They get incentives for sooner they deliver the stadium and focus on the other parts of the stadium. I'm excited as The progress looks greater and better by the day.
