  1. Have you ever thought of not rooting for the Zips for one football season? Don't click on a score, don't watch a game, just to see if it's you bringing these teams down?
  2. So increasing attendance by thousands, and helping pay for a kids education is "lame" and "juvenile"? You will have to convince me of that. You don't have to convince me that we need some focus on the offensive side of the ball. I'll give you that one. If UA marketing had a crystal ball, they could of had black Z ponchos instead of the shirts. They could still order them and sell them (minimal charge) at the little stands by the entrances for fans that aren't bright enough to look at weather.com before they go to an outside sporting event in NEO in November.
  3. He would fit right into JD's stack defense concept. If we have the offense, we don't have the defense, if we have the defense, we don't have the offense. I hope I get to see both at the same time in my life.
  4. Someone wrote the same thing about the Zips receivers before JD showed up, then he changed a DB into an NFL receiver, and a backup QB into an all american wide receiver. He also coached not one, but two Biletnikoff award winners. The dude had a knack for finding receivers on a roster, and I'm sure he could make our receiver corp better, whomever he would come up with at the position from our roster. Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Andre Jones also. He switched him from free safety to receiver.
  5. _________"Just win baby"
  6. I disagree. You are giving BG way too much credit. UMass scored 42 on them, UB scored 35 on them, hell W. Kentucky put up 31. Any of those terrible team's offensive outputs beats them Tuesday night. The Zips made their defense look decent. Marshall would beat us 9 of 10, I'll give you that. The Herd is the most talented team I have seen play at Info this year. If our run and shoot offense doesn't have to play in bad weather we beat BG. Sadly for that concept, we need to play in Alabama, not NEO since the weather is always a factor come Nov & Dec. I agree with Keener, bad night on the defensive side of the ball. Can't blame the weather there. BG was in a lot of good down and distances on 2nd down, we were not. The Zips did a poor job of stopping the run when facing the ONE HUNDREDTH ranked QB in FBS!?! Hint, stop the run and force a crappy QB into bad situations...we did it against Pitt. I love our pass rush when it's third and long. Unfortunately it takes two successful downs for the Zips to get them in that situation. BG's play calling allowed them to succeed on third down. I would strive for that if I were calling plays for Akron. Especially in bad weather. PS I was having a discussion with a Zips fan last night, he brought up an interesting point. Not that it will ever happen, but don't you wish Brookhart were coaching our receiving corp?
  7. I watched the end of the game when I got home and wondered who that tool was. Thanks for reminding me to look him up. Interesting stuff.
  8. I agree, I have been waiting for some kind of play action over the top type of throw. I'm just not sure who can execute it. Other than the underutilized D'Orazio, I don't have much faith in our skill players on that side of the ball. Spider two y banana!!!
  9. Can you explain "came to win" to me, and explain the plays that you would have like to seen repeated, but were not? We run the same offense from the start to finish. Always do. I could tell you what part of the field to defend once I saw our alignment. I think BG also had it figured out.
  10. Which team would you say had a better offensive game plan on a windy rainy night? WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWAWWWWWWB
  11. Poor blocking indeed. Every offensive snap will not be perfectly blocked. Taking a sack in that instance was the proper thing to do. I'm just happy #7 didn't get hurt diving on the ball.
  12. If you like watching live sports in NEO, a ninety-nine cent plastic poncho and a ninety-nine cent hand warmer shouldn't leave your glove box. That's a problem you have total control over.
  13. We've played more talented opponents this year, and preformed at a higher level. We needed a better offensive game plan last night.
  14. That was the play that changed the game. You have to take care of the ball and come away with points in the redzone when the game is 3-3.
  15. According to weather.com, minor changes in the percentage of rain by the hour; 5 pm - 0%, 6 pm - 15%, 7 pm - 40 %, 8&9 pm - 60%, and 10 pm - 80%
  16. I'm not real concerned about our defense. Coach Amato is a seasoned veteran. He has shown multiple times this season that he can adjust to whatever the offense is doing as long as the talent level is equal...which it will be on that side of the ball. It comes down to execution on D. I have an issue with some of the sets we get in during different situations in the game on the offensive side of the ball. We need to get in the proper play for the what the defense is showing depending on who is taking the snap. Get the proper play in to give the QB the best chance to succeed on the play. BG plays the press coverage sometimes, and sometimes they don't. The Zips two QB's handle the man coverage differently. If BG shows press coverage against KP16, AJ needs to change the formation if he has a pass called. Get in a bunch formation AJ. Here is the defense that Marshall successfully played the majority of the time against us in a similar offensive set. If someone at BG is good at their job, we will see the same tonight. This was an unsuccessful play run by WMU last week on 3rd and 5. Here is an example of the defensive set last week on a 2nd and 10. WMU runs a successful play underneath the coverage here. KP16 should eat this up. But will he see it?
  17. The new one, or the old one? I'm assuming the new one since nobody is really aware of it? Seriously, advertising on the trophy stand?
  18. I was one of those students that went to the game when it was free. That was a great benefit when attending school and short on cash. I have continued to go years and years later now spending money on the product. I have brought more people to the games then the amount of free tickets the U provided. I assume there are a few more that share the same experience. There are plenty of long term marketing plans that aren't being utilized, at the very least, they are sticking with one of the easiest ones. The students are the target demographic in the years ahead, easy groundwork. It's been well documented that it's becoming harder and harder to get students to the game, this is just one way. It doesn't have to be the only way, just one. They have the opportunity to make some future customers tomorrow if they can provide some good entertainment.
  19. Obviously forecasts change, but right now, it looks as though we are going to get wet during the game. Bring your black rain gear.
  20. Now that's an a$$ kickin! Nice work guys.
  21. After missing two games with a head injury, Kyle Pohl will return as the Akron Zips starting quarterback for their MAC showdown with Bowling Green on Tuesday. Seems pretty cut and dry to me. Never understood the hubbub. I would suggest some extra blind side help on Tuesday.
  22. Yesterday Andy Russell was talking about how the rules changed the size of the linebackers. They used to want to stay lighter.
  23. Terrible article.
  24. A little more information on this graphic than the last one. Don't forget your gaffers or electrical tape for your black shirt.
  25. I'm sitting on the numbers from his first game with Miami. New numbers from tonight's game should be available Friday or Saturday. "For me, I know all of us shouldn't take this moment for granted," James said after shootaround Thursday in advance of the Cavs' home game against the New York Knicks. "This is probably one of the biggest sporting events that is up there ever." source
