2 pm kickoff. ESPN3 coverage.

Give me three teams on the schedule every year ranked 31, 34, and 41. Perfect!

One week, one injury. Predictable.

Per gozips.com, game time will be announced Monday.

Does it make you feel better about your team losing by coming on a Zips website and demeaning one of our players? It's hard to evaluate from your tv set, but what I saw, he looked good. My question to fans that were at the game, was Tommy rotating, or did he get hurt? I noticed he wasn't in there for a series when the line gave up a sack from his side in the second quarter. During the first quarter I was ready to write big props to Pohl for improving the passes in the middle of the field where he has to lead receivers. As the game went on, he started struggling again with this issue missing some big plays. Other than this, a pretty big thing, he played really well. Like others I wonder why we didn't take our shots down field, I would be interested to hear AJ speak on this subject. I thought the defense played great, they made Hack look pedestrian at times, although PSU's play calling was odd to say the least. The posting in this thread saves me a lot of typing because my take on the game is like most posters. We need to tweak a few things, but I think they are obtainable, and I think we can compete for a Mac title, that's what most of us wanted to do this year, right? Two weeks to prepare for Marshall...I want a "w" bad. Our biggest issue is the fact we went 1-of-3 in the redzone and 5-of-17 on third down. Fix that.

I'll save my comments for tomorrow morning. I hate losing, and everything I start to write reads like an excuse. I agree with a lot what has been posted.

Nice video, well done. Looks dry for the game. PSU hopes to run the ball against the Zips. Does that play right into our hands? Game is on local channel 5 WEWS Tommy Brown starting. Looks good so far.

Is this a requirement for the position?
-
Could be worse, the BJ used to have a Zips writer with a tattoo of a Youngstown penguin (not a joke). Unless you have one of those?

EA of the PD writes that the Zips are ready for PSU at noon. "We need to run better,'' he said with an eye toward Saturday's noon game at Penn State (1-0) on ABC. "Plays have got to run for five (yards), not just for two. We need to pop a few more." Bowden noted that really good spread offenses might consider "balance" an 80-20 mix of pass and run. But the difference, Bowden said, is when those teams run, they are gaining 7.0 yards or more per carry. Until the Zips can start doing that, "I'm not going to beat my head into the ground (running the football)." According to an Akron writer the Akron Zips are not the number one news story of the Akron paper, the Browns are. So tune in for another exciting story on who the new QB will be. Rinse, and repeat for the last two decades. At the very least the writer that was in love with Mount Union football has left, so you don't have to read those stories anymore. BTW, the Chisholm story was well written.

LeBron Camp Back to Akron: Will it happen?
Dr Z replied to LosAngelesZipFan's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Your realize he has attended many Akron football games right? Somewhere on this site, I have a photo of him at the Info on the sidelines throwing a football around. So you mean more games? If you were LBJ, would you wanted to be spotted on the sidelines with i"coach"? I would agree he needs to be brought into the Bowden fold in some capacity. He has to want that though. OSU-Va Tech is a fun big game. When Akron has a big fun game (mac championship, bowl, big opponent), I would guess he would want to be there. -
It should be one of the steps, not the only step. Kansas, Duke, UConn would be a tad extreme, not the point. Pick some teams that are top 60 to 26 instead.

If you are a program that wants to take "the next step," then go play somebody that can make you better. Go play somebody away from Akron. Not a true comparison, but the point is valid, when Bobby Bowden spoke of this very thing at the family breakfast. "When I started at FSU, nobody wanted to come to Tallahassee and play us. We had to go to other schools and play. Nebraska, four away, no return, LSU, five away, no return, two in Michigan, no return, Arizona State, no return." If I have the choice of Bryant, Bluffton, and Coppin St at home versus playing a real team on the road, I would rather see them on the road. Please don't respond by telling me about 20+ wins in todays weak Mac. 20+ wins means little when you have to win the conference to get to the dance in today's Mac. I'll take 17 wins, play some good programs on the road and raise the competition level so when you do play in the big dance you have your team READY. Whomever holds a position that uses the excuse to the fanbase of "nobody wants to come to Akron" needs to move on. We need someone to think bigger.

I would guess Kansas basketball atmosphere would be kind of cool. Some fans may look forward to that, and enjoy the trip.

If you wanted to party on the other side of the river, and like Belgian beer, stop at Sharp Edge. If you stop there, Tenpenny is close, and worth the stop. Both are still walking distance (20 min) to game. PS I do NOT recommend Sharp Edge to Kenner. You will NOT see the game. Here are just the Belgians they have on tap. "OVER THE EDGE" Our Belgian IPA 9.5%, BAVIK Belgian Pils 5.2%, BORNEM Abbey Double 8%, CHIMAY Premiere 7%, CORSENDONK Pale Ale 7.5%, DEKONINCK Belgian Strong Ale 5% DUVEL Single 6.8%, GRIMBERGEN Abbey Double 6.5% (A Dr Z favorite), GULDEN DRAAK Dark Triple 10.5%, LEFFE Blonde 6.6%, LINDEMANS Framboise (Raspberry), MAREDSOUS Bruin 8%, PALM Speciale 5.4%, PIRAAT Triple IPA 10.5 %, URTHEL HOP-it 9.5%, WITTEKERKE 5%Incase somebody wanted to plan a party in Oakland, like parting at the Townhouse when the game is at the Rubber Bowl, if the Bowl was in a cool city??? I would guess they do this for the Akron game too...if we knew the time!!! Come on man!

The last time I went to a PSU game, I was lucky enough to have field passes. During warmups I was standing next to Andrew Quarless. I said the same thing, followed up by "I hope the Steelers draft this guy." He destroyed anyone in a Zips uni that day.
-
Glad he is getting a second chance somewhere, hopefully he takes advantage. Good luck to him.

Ireland a 'Distraction' to coach Franklin and some team members. They landed in Pittsburgh about midnight Saturday evening, and then bused to State College soon afterward. That resulted in a bedtime approaching 3 a.m. “The hardest part was waking up in the morning,” cornerback Jordan Lucas said. “I was awake at 7 a.m. My body still felt like it was in Ireland.” I think the Zips secondary will have a lot to do with the outcome. I am confident in our front seven, our secondary has not been tested the way it will this Saturday. I will feel better about Pohl if we get another offensive lineman eligible, but even if we don't the Zips run enough quick hit stuff, he should be okay. Good luck, thanks for stopping in.

I'm jealous. I wanted to stop in Belgium on my way from Amsterdam to Germany this summer but ran out of time. I would HIGHLY recommend taking the two hour trip north to Amsterdam. Some awesome sites. Take advantage of the best beers in the world while your there. Good luck.

The Godfather (of the draft) calls Christian Hackenberg a star-in-waiting.

Good to see so many enjoy the images, makes it worth doing. Thanks for all the kind words. Go Zips!
