  1. The Zips’ defense dealt with a severe loss against Ohio when defensive end C.J. James, who leads the team with six tackles for loss, didn’t play because of an NCAA eligibility issue. At issue is credits, Bowden said. “He’s practicing but it’s an eligibility issue that came up,” he said. “It’s not in our offices; it’s in the administrative offices. They’re talking to people and trying to figure out what the situation is. They’re trying to be cautious source
  2. 100% of ZN believes the Zips will get beat by more than 22!?! Not a good sign for future 2013 attendance at the Info!?! They have GOT to beat Miami if they hope to get anybody at the Ball State game on the 26th.
  3. From GT's article linked on the first page of this thread: Dambrot sounds confident the Zips will be able to make up for the loss of Marshall’s productivity. ‘‘We went four years where we had a guy in the middle who could shot block,” he said. “Before that we’ve always been good defensively and we didn’t have that kind of size. We have good size still.” It sounds as if freshman Isaiah Johnson, a 6-foot-10 center from Cincinnati, is making an impression. “I think Pat Forsythe can do a lot of things Zeke did,” Dambrot said. “I think Big Dog [Johnson] can do a lot of things offensively and maybe even better in some ways. He can score the ball around the rim and he can pass it.”
  4. Tree Looking Forward to Start of Season By George M. Thomas
  5. Feel free to make a specific prediction below, or discuss the game. This guy picks the Huskies to cover, but warns their defense has looked vulnerable.
  6. He is already on level 28 on the new Grand Theft Auto.
  7. Not unknown. Bowden comment from Dec 12."He and I shared much of the play calling duty this past year and I will continue to work closely with the offense." Maybe I can email Belichick's old guy, I'll try to listen in to their conversation during the game and let you guys know exactly what's going on.
  8. Right. Young guys get experience during practice. That's what its for. They will play when they are ready. I wouldn't mind seeing Hirschman.......celebrate some TDs.
  9. I agree. I do the same at home. I took a fall camping trip this weekend in the Allegheny mountains with friends. There happens to be this podunk bar/restaurant near. I took an hour out of weekend and watched the game there for a spell. Gist being, as long as you have your iPhone, you can pretty much watch the Zips anywhere. Now the Zips need to make it worth it.
  10. Read some stats on GoZips this morning, and thought, even though it hasn't showed up in the only stat that matters, wins and losses, both lines (offensive/defensive) should be encouraged by improvement. Stats are for losers: • UA has not allowed a sack in three-straight games (five this season). That ties as the 21st fewest nationally. • UA has lost just one fumble this season, tied for fourth nationally. Only four teams have not lost a fumble. • The Zips have recorded 15 sacks, 16 all of last year. UA's 3.0 spg average is tied for 17th nationally. • UA's 7.6 tackles-for-loss per game ranks first in the MAC and 18th in the country. Hoping to dominate the trenches tomorrow! No final score would surprise me tomorrow...odd.
  11. Winning the Lou Henson Award would surely help your argument. Tree is on the list, along with your buddy Javon. The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the top Mid-Major player in Division I college basketball. The award is named in honor of Lou Henson who retired after a spectacular coaching career that lasted 41 years.
  12. When coach arrived at Akron, he stated that he didn't like a QB to run the ball because the QB was in charge of getting the play to his teammates at the line, and he couldn't do that under a pile of defenders. He has since softened on that stance. There are now a few quotes of him supporting that the QB should run when given the opportunity. IMO on the goal line, you don't always need a big full back type to pound the ball in. Sometimes you just need a guy that runs low. I think George is suggesting Grice run the ball at the goal line. I would suggest he lead blocks for Hundley.
  13. Chase started over veteran Jon Beason against the Giants, in part because of Blackburn’s knowledge of his former team. Produced Week 3 shut out with two tackles I know a team w/o a win this year who could have used Chase from day one as a starter. Here is the trade Big Zip refers to.
  14. Didn't seem worth a new thread. The Suburbanite writes about C.J. James and Nordly Capi. By Andy Harris
  15. I wish every team that I root for would pull the bubble screen pass out of the playbook and burn it. Defenses have caught up to that play (for the majority). I just love to see that play run for negative four on first down. Give me Hundley off tackle for positive four on first down instead. He may not hit the home run like Chisholm, but I think he moves the chains and keeps the defense fresh in the second half.
  16. I thought the same. The Vice President for Strategic Engagement is a new position for Akron. According to Pat Galbincea of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Tressel's first action is to "raise money for a new basketball arena."
  17. Whack-a-Zip...By George M. Thomas Beacon Journal sports writer I could only watch on tv last week, so you really can't tell whats going on. If BG was truly taking D’Orazio out of the game, do what Belichick used to do to teams that focused on Welker in the slot. Run routs under D’Orazio's rout. The tight end, running back, or other receivers will be open. Use the defenses aggressiveness against them.
  18. I don't know how much credence, I put in this injury list, but Hirschman is not listed this week. He was listed last week.
  19. OU Thread Already Started Here
  20. Depends. They can handle obvious run plays most times. Play calling seems to be their downfall, they bite on a lot. If your QB sits in the pocket on obvious passing downs he will get sacked. Example: six sacks last week in the first half. Teams have learned this, adjusted play calling at half and have success. In one word, they are an enigma.
  21. Can't say I didn't warn you. He was his typical terrible self. My favorites are "let's see what the defense dials up here"..."let's see what the offense dials up here"
  22. Coach is right. The play that sticks out in my mind was BG's running back, all one hundred and eighty pounds of him, dragging Presley for a six yard piggy back ride to the first down stick. We need to be stronger.
  23. For some of the uninformed here, LeBron has been on Akron's sidelines before.
  24. JJ, addressed almost every one of the above comments to the coach after the game. Excellent Q&A from Joe and coach. You will learn something every time you hear coach speak. Tough loss for the excitement that was built in the first half. Too bad we didn't have a quality backup for Kyle when he got dinged in the head.
  25. Hats off to coach Amato, changing up pressure on obvious passing downs. We are controlling the line in that situation!
