  1. 20-0 Knights....no, I mean, 20-0 Zips this time. The weather is all the difference in this one.Mondo, 2 sacks.
  2. I think the Zips are 0-7 in their last seven independent matchups. I can't give you a link, but I remember reading that in one of the betting books.
  3. Remember the Vick pick as he was covering Andre Davis?
  4. Technically, he played before and after 2000.Dude had the best closing speed on a ball I have seen.
  5. How about the one with a ring?
  6. F Marshall!

  8. Pluto joins sports columnists Bill Livingston and Bud Shaw. He will continue to write his Sunday notes column, which he said he patterns after the style of Hal Lebovitz, the late sports editor of The Plain Dealer."Bud and Bill have different styles and opinions than I do, and that's why this can be a lot of fun," Pluto said. "It gives the readers three different approaches, and I can't wait to work with them."Along with his sportswriting duties, Pluto also will write two or three faith columns each month for the PD's religion section.
  9. please take your Suckeye discussion here
  10. This is the BJ's chance to get my quarter back. My guess is a YSU grad takes his spot.I'm interested to hear Rasor's take on this.
  11. I'm not sure what JD is doing, flip the coin already. Zips still wait to hear choice for quarterbackNo clear passing leader emerges after a week of preseason practiceBy David Lee Morgan Jr. Beacon Journal sportswriterPublished on Tuesday, Aug 14, 2007A week into preseason camp for the University of Akron football team and STILL no decision on who is the No. 1 quarterback. With the season-opener against Army at Cleveland Browns Stadium less than three weeks away, one would think that the quarterback scenario would have played itself out by now. But it hasn't.Zips coach J.D. Brookhart isn't concerned, even though ideally he was hoping to have the starter named after the first week of preseason drills.''We're not pressed for that at all,'' Brookhart said. ''As long as we're having guys going through their ups and downs and working those things out, we'll be OK.''Sophomores Carlton Jackson and Chris Jacquemain and true freshman Matt Rodgers are all getting equal reps in practice. Jackson, theoretically, has a slight edge, mainly because he was the backup to Luke Getsy last season. But describing Jackson as a backup is somewhat misleading when you consider he appeared in only four games and attempted and completed one pass for 2 yards. As much as he has stayed with the company line, making sure he says all the right things when it comes to being a team player, Jackson wants the starting job. He's not frustrated somewhere between anxious and mystified.''Who wouldn't be?'' asked Jackson, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound Pompano Beach, Fla., native. ''But we just come out here and do what we can to limit our mistakes. The coaches do a lot of judging on the errors we make and the (bad) decisions we make. Since a decision hasn't been made yet, it gives us more drive to come out and execute. It brings out the best in all of us, and regardless of who becomes the starter, I have faith in the other guys and I know they have faith in me.''Meanwhile, Jacquemain, a 6-2, 210-pound Mentor native, has shown that he is very capable. He has done nothing but impress Brookhart and the staff with his play. And Rodgers, who was recently moved up to the No. 3 spot after redshirt freshman Sean Hakes left the team, has been impressive enough that he has earned valuable snaps.Backs look goodThe Zips have solid and experienced running backs in junior Dennis Kennedy and senior Andre Walker. Redshirt sophomore Alex Allen, who missed all of last season after a knee injury, has rebounded strongly. But junior running back Bryan Williams, a Buchtel High School star, is definitely making a name for himself at the University of Akron. After leaving the University of Pittsburgh to attend Valley Forge (Pa.) Military Academy the past two seasons, where he was a running back and defensive back, he is now solely a running back and is turning heads and catching eyes.During practice on Monday, Williams, who also was an all-state sprinter, had a long run that showcased his speed. Brookhart is high on him.
  12. ..gmann from the outside...shot is up...swwwiiisshhhhhh !!!

  14. Me too. He looked great on film. I hope he goes every play like his highlights.
  15. I am looking forward to the columbus U game being over, so I can quit reading (on this board) how great every backup player is so superior to the Zips 1st team.
  16. Does anyone believe that he was only joking?!?!? I think this may be the way Crennel has been coaching since arriving at Cleveland YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING !?!?!?
  17. When dime bag Cribbs is laughing at you, maybe Frye has nothing to worry about?I can still picture Cribbs 100 MPH 10 yard pass 5 foot in front of his intended target.Friday, August 10, 2007Tony GrossiPlain Dealer ReporterThat love affair between Browns fans and Brady Quinn is on hold. Something keeps coming between them. There was that 11-day holdout over money. Then there was that PR fiasco about charging $75 for his autograph. When he finally rejoined his team and was scheduled to show off his arm for the first time in front of fans, practice was moved indoors by coach Romeo Crennel because of wet weather.Hundreds of fans - some who traveled far - were turned away because the team's indoor facility cannot accommodate spectators. For Quinn's sake, it may have been just as well. What they missed was an overeager Quinn trying to throw the ball through concrete walls."Some of us were laughing, the way he was showing his arm off," said receiver Josh Cribbs.
  18. the silver lining in your story is "Alex Allen broke away for another long touchdown run. Brookhart expects he will get between 15 and 18 carries."I'm really looking forward to see Alex carry the rock.Good luck Sean. Met him once and he seemed very nice.
  19. Monday night ESPNI'll be watching to see if Hixon gets in. Second right now in poll "Who will lead the Broncos in receiving yards in the preseason?"Photo is from Monday's practice:
  20. I wish we had an Akron grad writing for the Akron paper.Unfortunately we have a CSU grad and a YSU grad.Is it any wonder why we get what we get.
  21. The best thing that could happen to Charlie is the Browns cut him today.Good points
  22. I have experienced the opposite with Zip players. Many Zip players are very open and excited to tell you about the team.
  23. 8. Do you read message boards or blogs where fans discuss your team?Yes: 39.5%No: 60.5%Notes: For the purposes of this survey, if a player answered "sometimes," it was counted as a "yes" response... Twenty-four players answered "yes" outright, while 23 answered "sometimes." ... Approximately 68 percent of BCS players responded "no," compared to approximately 51 percent of non-BCS players.Quotable: "I read it if I want to have a good laugh," said one Big 12 player. "Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that they're showing their opinions, but at the end of the day, they don't know what's going on." ... Most players who responded "no" said the people who write on message boards or blogs do not know what they're talking about. Said one MAC player: "My grandma could guess the same thing."Source to entertaining article
  24. sourceIn Quinn's absence, Frye, Anderson compete for starting jobBy Len PasquarelliESPN.comUpdated: August 7, 2007, 8:50 AM ETWhile first-round draft choice Brady Quinn continues his training camp holdout, Cleveland Browns' quarterback Charlie Frye is simply trying to hold on to the starting job that he owned for much of the past 1½ seasons. And at least nominally, at this point, he's succeeding. To comply with NFL rules, Browns head coach Romeo Crennel issued the team's first depth chart on Monday, and Frye, a third-year veteran, occupied the top rung. Crennel cautioned strongly, however, that the depth chart is barely worth the paper on which it was printed, and would not even commit to Frye as his starter in Saturday night's preseason opener.Crennel even joked that he might toss a coin before the game to determine whether Frye or challenger Derek Anderson, also a third-year pro, would get the starting nod. Apparently, the competition for the starting job in the regular season remains that close.Uncertainty at quarterback is nothing new for the Browns, who have employed five different opening-day starters in the last five years. And through three dozen practices in the spring and now in the first 10 days of training camp, neither Frye nor Anderson has separated himself enough yet to have been vested with the No. 1 job.PD article on same topic
