Dambrot says 'yes' to Duquesne this time
Dr Z replied to GeorgeThomasABJ's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I have interpreted his feeling for years in many of his comments. Sounds like a good time to move on when you feel like that. I think he is making the right choice, and will learn something about his career one way or another from this choice. -
"We will immediately launch a national search for our new basketball coach, and we reaffirm our commitment to building our basketball program and all of Akron Athletics into a nationally recognized program across the board. In addition to finding a new coach, we are working to be in a position to upgrade the James A. Rhodes Arena" -- Larry Williams I'm staying optimistic that Larry and Matt will bring in a coach that reenergizes my enthusiasm for MAC basketball. I feel I've watched (listen and read) the same cycle for long enough, I'm ready to move forward. Start with a good hire, upgrade the JAR, and make the schedule better now that resume padding is finished. I'm sure there is somebody out there that can achieve the goal of winning an NCAA tournament game. Go Zips!!!!

No it's good to continue here, I edited the topic name to be more current. I'll probably have to edit it again tomorrow. -
No list would be complete without Seattle Seahawk Rodney Coe IMO.

I guess I'm missing that Tweet from @spidervoice? Last one I see is from Friday. Might be my 6-Core Intel is slow today. I do see this: https://twitter.com/cellarspider3 -
A trusted source has told me that Jojo ran a 4.35 and a 4.21, jumped 34" and benched 225 sixteen times at the pro day. The numbers should be posted after all schools finish their pro days.

He is signed until 2023 as it is. He would be 65 then. Adding more years would not benefit either side IMO. -

You can walk from Pitt to Duquesne. If he lived in Shadyside with Tomlin, he would be closer to Pitt. -
EA of the PD reports that at Akron's pro day, Lane... "did 16 reps on the bench at 225 pounds at the indoor practice field, and said he posted his best vertical jump ever at 37 inches. Lane did not run a 40-yard-dash but said he is a consistent 4.5."The 40 is not big to me,'' Lane said. "My game speed shows up.''Lane is not considered a first-day draft pick, but he fits the measurables pro teams want on the flanks. That could make him a prime target in the late rounds of the draft, or as a priority free agent." Pro Football Focus has Jerome listed as a top 25 receiver in their draft rankings.

I agree with this. I was incredibly disappointed when he went up against WMU and didn't shadow Davis. They moved Davis to X, Y, and Z in that game, and Scott kept his position. Obviously that is coach Amato's D, but it's a question I hope to get the answer to in June. I would love to see his pff grade throughout his college career, I'll bet it's impressive. They rank him as the 24th CB in the draft. Still disappointed not to see numbers here. The below list is from GoZips dot com.

Good luck Josh.

That's a lot of apples and oranges.

I can't find any recent data comparing athletic program spending, but this fact has always stuck with me. In 2012, ACE indicated only eight public university athletic programs either covered their expenses (across all athletic programs; not just football) or broke even. Pennsylvania State University (Penn State), University of Georgia, University of Iowa, University of Michigan, University of Nebraska, University of Oklahoma, University of Texas At these schools, athletic programs brought in enough revenue in 2012 to cover their expenses without requiring financial support from the university. According to ACE, most of that money can be attributed directly to football. source Here is the followup article on all Ohio Schools that includes this graphic.

Edit to Marquess Callaway from this article by Michael Beaven. "...senior defensive back Marquess Callaway is working on improving his ACT score to earn a scholarship during the summer or fall..." Callaway had offers from Toledo and Malone, and was generating interest from several schools including, Michigan State, Indiana, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Iowa, Iowa State and Youngstown State.

Zips at Texas-Arlington — NIT Round 2 (Mon 8 pm)

In a recent interview, I heard Jim Boeheim indicated the way he measures the success of any team is not by their record, it is by who they beat. That makes a lot of sense to me. -
Carlos Carrasco - The American Dream "... ever since I became a U.S. citizen looking at the flag has meant something more. Home. It’s my anthem and my flag now, too. When I got to my locker after the last game of our series in Washington, my clothes were gone. My teammates had hung up an Uncle Sam costume for me to wear on the flight home instead. “Welcome to America!” they all cheered at me. I wore that outfit on the bus, and then on the plane ride back to Ohio. I loved it! The guys are so happy for me, and it’s been great to share this with them. There’s just this spirit here — from my teammates, to the people in the front office, to our trainers. It’s unbelievable. We’ve gone through so much together on the field, of course. But they’ve had an even bigger impact on my life because of everything that has happened off the field. Every day they helped me learned English. They are the ones who really helped me become an American..." "... it’s more than just standing out on the mound. Or starting my first major league season as an American. It’s looking up into the stands at my wife and kids. It’s looking over at my teammates. It’s looking around at our fans in Cleveland. And knowing that I’m home..."

Going through multiple shoulder rehabs myself, toss, and throw are two different things. Tossing the ball in March is a positive sign he will be throwing the ball in the near future.
