Didn't you say you live in Gallucci this year? You didn't chose to live in the Gooch again next year, did you?If I were going to stay on campus, I'd rather live in Exchange or at least somewhere in the North Quad. And if the construction on the new dorms is scheduled to be done on time, I'd pick those over anything else.

They let me browse the general forums but I can't get into the "Private" MSU board. I find it odd that they won't allow outsiders on their boards. I guess the Morgan States and the South Carolina State's of the world talk about some pretty important things.

I found this: http://www.bearroundup.com/Appears as if you need to create a log in and password to even view the "discussion". I'm not exactly sure if it's worth it.Edit: I'm on a roll. I've found another. You have to create an account for ths one, too. What's with these people? I didn't realize MEAC sports were so in demand.http://community.meacfans.com/eve

"This group was created for all MSU Band members and aspiring members to come and chat, view & add pictures/videos, leave a message on the message boards, etc. The Morgan State University Marching Band is the best-known and widely popular band at Morgan State University. Most commonly referred to as the Magnificent Marching Machine; the band consists of 150 university students and has performed at many national, regional, and local engagements. Under the direction of Mr. Melvin N. Miles Jr., this band from Morgan State University has dazzled and excited audiences during performances at MSU football games, National Football League Championship and regular season games, CFL games, Presidential Inaugurations, World Series Games, and local television appearances. The "Magnificent Marching Machine" most recently performed in Bermuda at the Bermuda Day celebration. In addition, the € ’³Magnificent Marching Machine€ ’´ performed at the Baltimore Ravens Inaugural Football Game you can check the band out in its movie debut in Head of State, which stars Chris Rock."http://groups.yahoo.com/phrase/baltimore-r...s-message-boardSo atleast halftime will be interesting. Also, MSU is a historically black university. I'm not sure if that makes a difference to any of you. Hopefully not.

I think the Sounders home games may be more doable for Z.I.P.

OU has 10,000 less students than we do. It's not that kids won't come here, it's that talented band members don't want to come here. And bandzip is right, that starts with funding.

That's a really good way to think about it. Way too many MAC fans (ahem ncaabbs) are quick to blame the MAC office. Pessimism abound on the MAC bbs forums.
-
We could probably get into the Big East for just soccer right now. We practically have the MAC bending over backwards to keep our soccer program in the conference. Hopefully the same can be said for our hoops in a few years.
-
For the most part, I'd say that your list is pretty probable. The only thing that bothers me enough to mention would be to swap Buffalo with BG. As of now, there is an evident line forming between MAC schools willing to spend on athletics, and those not willing. In any case, I see Akron and Buffalo as two MAC teams who are willing, and should be grouped in the same conference. Not to mention, that gives the CUSA a NY school rather than another Ohio school. The academics at UB are also superior to BG.

I'd have to agree with UAZipsman.I get a better connection while taking a dump in Shrank South than I do inside my bedroom in Gallucci Hall.

The more I think about, the more I believe the zips have the upper hand. The biggest ace in the hole we have is our programs policies on recruiting. KD recruits kids with a strong family background for a reason. If this kid comes to Akron and his grandmother likes how important family is to our program, you'd better believe we will have a good shot. And as far as majoring in bussiness, I hope someone let's him know UA has one of the top Bussiness programs in the country per Bussiness Week magazine.Ultimately, you just have to have let the kid decide. Just like Zeke, some kids just "click" with a certain program. Let's hope that Akron clicks with Payne as well.Note: Lets get someone affiliated with the hoops team to drive down to Dayton and give the kid's grandma a ride to the home games! That might take away Dayton's obvious "close to home" advantage.
-
Yeah, and imagine if the city of Akron celebrated a zips game the way OU fans(mostly students) do. Athens is a little ho hum college town in the middle of nowhere, while Akron is a city of over 200 K. So I guess the question is...Athens? Or Akron? hmm....
-
That'd be nice and all, but we'd better make some big noise fast if that was to happen. Personally, I'd be much more content with being a perennial MAC powerhouse and having a consistent winning tradition than jumping to the big stage and being a .500 team. I am not so sure that if the Big10 were to expand to 12 teams that they'd pick up a mid-major MAC team. If anything they'd probably try to convince Notre Dame to join. The big ten has no benefit in taking in Akron. I'm assuming that was sarcasm. And UAZips man is correct, they wouldn't pick from the mid major ranks.

I think what uakronkids ideas would prevent precisely what you're talking about. If, and thats a big if, all the non BCS conferences came together, the case would be stronger. But do you really think the president's at school like BG, Can't and OU give a hoot about the BCS? Unfortunately, many non BCS schools don't mind it the way it is.
-
Do you mean to say it's surprising a kid would chose Akron as his first choice? Hasn't Zeke taught you anything? Why doesn't this kid have a rivals profile? With an awards list like his, he should at least have a profile.

Stadium Mock-up from Osborne Design
ksu sucks replied to Z.I.P.'s topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Oh, geez, sorry for the confusion. I think he was referring to Columbus Tech. Just a bunch of choke-artists, really. Just ignore them, that's what I typically do. -
I hope so and I also hope we need the capacity. But I know that's a dream. Who cares, you don't get better if you can't dream. I believe someone on ZN said the stadium is indeed expandable. Like you guys, I find it hard to believe it wouldn't be. I mean in most cases, if you build a new stadium it's meant to be a catalyst for growth, so I can't imagine they wouldn't design a stadium without that growth in mind.

Now you're thinking. Kill two birds with one stone; matriculate a celebrity status athlete and rake in some cash for an area while were at it...genius...

I wish I knew his name. I just know one of the coaches from another high school that was competing for the kid. According to him, SVSM pulled out all the stops, they even brought the King in to come talk to him...that's a hell of a recruiting tool.Anyways, last I heard this kid was already set on SVSM to begin with. I'm sure the championship will just cement his decision.edit: I don't know why I called the win a championship...I don't follow High school hoops much so I must've just assumed.

Elton Alexander on the Zips + Zeke
ksu sucks replied to Dave in Green's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Ha, I never thought about that. Standing ovation? That might be over the top. But definitely can picture some applause from the more educated zips fans.Which makes me start thinking(that's never a good thing)...if I see any seven footers walking around campus next year I'm going to be tempted to ask for an autograph. I was eating at Rob's the other day and I could've sworn Nate Linhart was eating close to me and my friend. My friend told me I was delusional, which isn't very far off either. Whoever that kid was, he finished off his clam chowder way too fast. -
I'm not sure what you mean, but it's incredibly annoying.Edit: So as to prevent my post from being completely irrelevant, I should mention that this championship should mean SVSM will probably snag this big time center. From what I heard, the kid is the next Zeke Marshall. He's in the eighth grade and is something like 6'8....okay maybe not that tall..but tall for his age.

Spring Game On-Campus Tailgating Kickoff
ksu sucks replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
How about a lawn area at Buchtel fields similar to that at blossom. The stoners need some love. -
That can only be a good thing. It's reassuring knowing we have a staff who can diagnose talent and potential so well.

Requesting Some Help from ZipsNation
ksu sucks replied to tbozeglav's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I'm in the exact same predicament as UAZips. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it. Yeah I wouldn't be surprised. From what I've heard, literally EVERYTHING around campus is almost filled already. This school is growing way too fast...on a side note, I think there is going to be a off campus housing fair at the student union sometime in April. I'm sure of the specifics though. -
I totally agree. We ought to be more like Ohio State and open up with big time programs like FCS Youngstown State. That's how championships are won(see: Florida Gators).
