  1. Akron University is more of a liberal arts college type of name. I think UA is the most fitting because it kind of exemplifies the large research persona that Akron aims for. Also, as far as competing with other schools for a name...UA...alabama, arkansas, alberta, auckland, alaska...need I say more? And dont even get me started on Akron state university...ugh...that sounds fugly.
  2. The idea popped into my goofy head about 3 days ago, and I've added a little here and there ever since. If this isn't proof of my "terminal Zip sickness", I'm not sure what is!lol if that's not dedication then I don't know what is.
  3. @ the OP...just curious...how long did it take you to think of that?
  4. Apparently that "soft" verbal to Toledo was indeed very soft. It's really turning into a great class this year.
  5. There is no explaining the Browns.
  6. A change in defensive scheme is mere speculation at this point. After all the injuries/etc this year, it sure seems like we have the numbers to play a 4-3 moving forward.Okay, that's what I figured.
  7. Perhaps I'm behind the eight ball a bit here...has there been any public statements that we will even change the defensive scheme next season? As far as I knew, the 3-3-5 was still in place.
  8. really? Interesting. What is it that you would say makes UA's dept. better?(I always thought those rankings were BS anyways)
  9. I think a lot of Rowdies may actually make it to the game. Both of my finals are on Monday but I'm using the game as a good break from studying. Kind of a way to reward myself for working so hard. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the students had the same idea.Go zips!
  10. Ouch...lemme guess, calc 2 issues?
  11. I've noticed a handful of zipsnation posters say that they were engineering majors at UA . Being a ChemE major myself I was wondering; how many of you are Engineering students/graduates from the University? Just list the specific field of engineering and what year you graduated/plan to graduate.
  12. Couldn't agree more. It's that Browns fan mentality.
  13. Uh oh...nbs95's boy is in...here we go...
  14. Wow...won't most students be leaving for home by that time tommorow....
  15. I've been trying to research the origins of the 3-3-5 (sometimes called the 3-3-5 "stack") without a whole lot of definitive findings. Apparently it's been used in the NFL/AFL before, but only in a situational role. As far as college football goes, it looks like it started to gain acceptance as a possible every-down defense with Harding University around the year 2000. Therefore, it's highly likely that Fleming is far more familiar with 4-3 and 3-4 schemes anyway. But I'm not sure I would want him to come back as DC even if JD decides to junk the 3-3-5. I think some new blood/ideas might be in order.I know this isn't a great comparison, but I played defensive end for my varsity high school football team and we had a 3-3-5. It's a great defense when you have two really athletic defensive ends and a big strong noseguard. I don't really know what our personnel is like here at Akron, but if you have a really good front three like my high school did(yes, I was damn good) it can open up a lot of stunts for the linebackers. In the 3-3 stack defense, the linebackers are expected to make most of the plays. The linemen are just expected to take blocks and open up blitzing lanes for the backers(although this may be true for most defenses, it's definitely emphasized in the stack). Unless of course, there is a passing situation, in which the aforementioned athleticism of the D-ends is used to their advantage. As for the zips. When you have 12 (or however many) capable defensive linemen, is seems stupid to run the 3-3-5. The only way I could see it benefiting the zips is if they rotate the line a lot. Being able to substitute fresh d-linemen in and NOT have a drop in the intensity of the defense is obviously a HUGE plus. I'm sure if this were the case for UA, we wouldn't be having this discussion.Regardless, I just thought I'd provide some input from someone who played the defensive scheme (although with much simpler play calling I'm sure).
  16. Only if the person throwing said object is wearing scarlet and gray.
  17. I actually saw an article about him the other day. It deals more with his tenure with the Irish, but since you brought em up...http://www.latimes.com/sports/printedition...,5076376.column
  18. Wow, anyone who can balance engineering coursework and play Division 1 football at the same time deserves an award. A super bowl ring seems fitting.
  19. About 500 people have joined the Facebook group. Whatever that means
  20. Ha. The funny part is I remember posting a comment about this stat before the UB game as a joke. I said something along the lines of "good news is, if we score over 40, we win"Ahh..the irony...the sick, twisted, irony.Edit: btw, great point. That is good support for changing the defensive scheme(as if the play on the field isn't enough..).
  21. ..and we all lived happily ever after..
  22. if i was a WINKING LIZARD big shot i'd be buying some space along Exchange...BW3 is crazy if they don't expand...that location is a gold mine on game days...Ohh yes....a LOT of change will be happening on Exchange with the addition of the INFO. Can't wait to see what bars start to pop up. and the best part is.....ITS RIGHT DOWN THE STREET FROM MY DORM! hooray for underage drinking!I, for one, pray that Exchange gets a complete overhaul asap. Was just there for the first time in a few years and yeesh, the place looks way slummier than I can remember. Many houses about to cave in, outlaw biker looking types at Plasma Center, nowhere to go other than BW-3's. The dazed chick walking aimlessly at Speedway with the house arrest ankle bracelet was interesting....Dont forget the odd corner head shop! Yeah it is nice. And I couldn't agree more about the university and its effect on the city. That's why I can't understand the small population of people who are against the university's use of eminent domain. I for one, would love to see the UA buy up more property around exchange. God knows it needs a major face lift.
  23. Yup, exactly. Ask any NEO high school football fan. The tigers have a strong tradition, strong community support, and a box office motion picture about them. They aren't a powerhouse anymore, but when people care about a team that much, money will come.

  25. What do you call the MAC Championship against the best team in the league that year. He also beat the same team earlier in the season. How soon you guys forget when it doesn't meet your argument. I guess that's why the saying, "Don't let the facts get in the way of a good argument" exists.Haha, I refuse to argue with that reply until you read the rest of my posts.
