Having a packed Info and a Top 25 team would suuuuuck...
-
It won't happen but it'd be incredible. Akron would be a Top 25 team within 3 years.

Attention. This is a non-story to us if he did it inside his home.idk about non-story, but it wouldn't be nearly as big.Inside his home = small article on Ohio.comAt the stadium = Yahoo, CNN, ESPN, and most national media outletsI don't know why he did it, but the location was most certainly selected to bring attention to it.

I am happy. Why? The Hiram exhibition game is less than three weeks away now!

That's not the dictionary definition, but while I disagree with you, I can appreciate and respect your viewpoint. The victims to me are the people this person left behind who now must search for answers, while likely being emotionally scarred for the remainder of their lives. We can agree to disagree though.
-
Very sad if true, although I'm not sure "victim" applies here.

I still thinks it's an abomination that WZIP doesn't broadcast @ least the football & men's b-ball games. Probably should broadcast men's soccer as well, since we are the #1 program in the entire nation. +1 WZIP has a better coverage area than 1350, better audio, and like you said, is free. Any advertising is profit. I bet they could do a lot more games then. Give the students a chance to call baseball games, for example, if that's what they want to do as a career. And the games could be picked up on an IPod or other tiny FM receiver when you're at the game, or not able to sit in front of an AM radio all day. Cars are coming out without CD players now, how long before they quit putting AM static boxes in? WZIP wanted to do UA games way back when they first started at little to no cost. The AD at the time not only refused to pay WZIP to cover games, but also expected them to cover their own costs for travel. Of course, they still wanted to get a large cut of the in-game advertisements. As for Carmen, he seems like a nice guy but if anything, he's a play-by-play guy. After his failed run hosting a show on 1350, I'm surprised he got this shot. Maybe he'll surprise though...it'd make for a cool story. His show on 1350 was doing good, he was able to get decent callers and had good conversation with them. I think Clearchannel either wanted to dump the expense of a local show, couldn't sell advertising for it, or both. As soon as Ken cleaned out his desk, CC had Fox network programming in that time slot. He seems to be a good fit with the rest of the WKRK talent. He already has a group of callers from his 1350 days, which the other guys haven't built yet. And has a lot of knowledge of Cleveland and NEOhio sports, which the new imports don't have yet. I don't know that I agree that he was doing well with the show. He's knows NE Ohio sports, but no more or less than anyone else. He's decent, but I'm not sure he'll last. 92.3 is just disappointing...it was presented as a "fresh take" on NE sports, and then they hired a few out-of-towners and WKNR/WTAM/FSN castoffs.

The man screwed up for sure, but by most accounts, he is an excellent coach and person. Even the best of us screw up. I'll take his "culture" over Ianello's, but as GP1 said, little to no chance it happens...he'll land another big coaching job in a year or two.

Does anyone else think Darryl Roberts would be a great guy to keep around the program? I don't know what his future plans are, but he was one of our most underrated players the last few years. Intelligent player, strong leader, good fundamentals...I would love to see him become a GA and eventually an assistant coach, similar to the path Rick McFadden has taken with the team. He would be an excellent mentor for Alex Abreu, Deji Ibatayo, and Blake Justice as well. Thoughts?

http://www.umhoops.com/2011/02/10/2011-qa-larry-nance-jr/ Describe your game. I just feel like I’m a versatile 3-4 man. I’m 6-7. I feel like I can play pretty much any position on the floor, guard any position on the floor and, I mean, I score inside-out and I get a lot of rebounds. You grew quite a bit recently, correct? Yes. From my sophomore year to my senior year I grew six inches and put on 75 pounds. How has that affected your game? As a sophomore, I didn’t start on J.V. and over that summer I just grew, worked on my game and I’ve turned into a varsity starter. It’s changed me from just a standing-around 3-point shooter to more of a swing 3-man who can shoot 3′s also. So would you say you have good guard skills for a big man? Yes. I mean, I’ve always been a point guard on every team I’ve played on all my life. Then all the sudden last year I had to change to a big. I feel like it helped a ton with footwork, ballhandling and shooting. Do you feel comfortable in the post? I really do. That’s definitely, I feel, a strong point in my game. I have quite a few post moves that work. How has the season gone for your high school team? Great. We’re 14-1 right now and ranked in the top-25 in our state. How has the season gone for you personally? Good. I mean, I’m averaging 18 points and 10 rebounds. Really good. Recently teams have tried to double-team me and triple-team me and tried to slow us down but a lot of guys on our team have stepped up. Which Michigan coaches have been talking with you? I’ve spoken with Coach Meyer and Coach Beilein quite often, actually. Have they been at practices or games? Yeah, Coach Meyer was at my game this past Tuesday. Have you been offered by Michigan? I have not, no. What are Michigan coaches telling you regarding an offer? They just say they have one scholarship available and if I keep showing them what they like to see, I’m definitely in the running for it. Have they given you any sort of time frame on when they would make a decision? No, they haven’t told me any specific time. Any other offers on the table? I have some MAC offers, Horizon League and A10. Should Michigan offer, would they be number one on your list? They’d very much be first. Have you visited? I came up for the home Penn State game. What’d you think? It’s awesome. It really is. It’s a great atmosphere. Any other Michigan visits planned? Yeah, we’re hoping to catch another game real soon once the coaching staff is real, like, not busy for a weekend, then we’re going to head up there and actually visit. What do you like about Michigan? I really like the way coach Beilein coaches, I like that it seems like every player on the team is a good person, a good player and good to be around. Coming from Ohio I know it’s uncommon, but I’ve always been really rooting for Michigan. I really think it’s a cool place to be. How do you see yourself fitting into Michigan’s offense? I think right now they might not have that slashing, athletic presence who plays above the rim and I think I could provide that. Anything specific you’re focused on improving about your game right now? Rebounding. Offensive rebounding and just going after every ball. Any player (besides maybe your father, Larry Nance Sr.) who people compare you to? Actually, a lot of my friends say I play like Rudy Gay for the Memphis Grizzlies.

A few thoughts... - Cleveland State should be a staple on our schedule...could turn into a really good non-conference rivalry. - Love playing VCU at home - Am I the only one who thinks Walsh and McClanahan could end up being our starting guards? - Good to hear him mention Cvetinovic when discussing the returning players
-
Thank you for the information!
-
Why does there have to be something wrong? Maybe he sees how much Dambrot likes Egner, how he brought in Demetrius Treadwell and Nick Harney, how there's talk of Cventinovic coming back now, and just doesn't see minutes for himself. He's basically in the same spot Swiech was in. He probably wants significant playing time, and I just don't see him getting it here.

I'm sure I wasn't the only one thinking it last night, watching Butler take down #1 Pittsburgh, seeing them advance to the Sweet Sixteen...again...dreaming about Akron one day reaching that level. Of course, that got me thinking...how do we get to where Butler is now? Out of all of the Mid-Major programs we can model ourselves off of, I think Butler is the best. When looking at past results, you see the impressive statistic showing that they have reached the NCAA Tournament 10 of the last 15 seasons: NCAA Tournament Results 1997 - #14 Seed - Lost in 1st Round 1998 - #13 Seed - Lost in 1st Round 2000 - #12 Seed - Lost in 1st Round (in overtime) 2001 - #10 Seed - Lost in 2nd Round 2003 - #12 Seed - Lost in Sweet Sixteen 2007 - #5 Seed - Lost in Sweet Sixteen 2008 - #7 Seed - Lost in 2nd Round 2009 - #9 Seed - Lost in 1st Round 2010 - #5 Seed - Lost in National Title Game 2011 - #8 Seed - Currently in Sweet Sixteen The other interesting note to me is that they made the NCAA Tournament three times before finally winning a game. Now let's look at their scheduling before and during their NCAA Tournament runs: Before 1994-1995 - No ranked opponents 1995-1996 - No ranked opponents During 1996-1997 - #5 Villanova (Loss on Neutral Court), @ #13 Indiana (Loss) 1997-1998 - @ #18 Oklahoma (Win), #15 Stanford (Loss), @ #13 Xavier (Loss) 1999-2000 - No ranked opponents 2002-2003 - @ #5 Duke (Loss) 2003-2004 - No ranked opponents 2006-2007 - @ #22 Tennessee (Win), #16 Southern Illinois (Loss) 2007-2008 - #16 Drake (Loss) 2008-2009 - @ #21 Ohio State (Loss), @ #14 Xavier (Win) 2009-2010 - #22 Minnesota (Loss on Neutral Court), #19 Clemson (Loss on Neutral Court), @ #15 Georgetown (Loss), #13 Ohio State (Win) 2010-2011 - #1 Duke (Loss on Neutral Court), @ #14 Louisville (Loss) The Schedule By the Numbers: Record: 4-13 vs. Ranked Teams Home Games: 4 Neutral Games: 4 Away Games: 5 Using the information above, I have three questions for discussion: 1) How important is it that Butler faced a ranked opponent in 8 of their 10 NCAA Tournament seasons, and 2 or more ranked opponents in 6 of their 10 qualifying seasons? Should Akron begin attempting to add at least two ranked opponents per season starting next year? 2) How much of a gap in talent is there between our current roster and 2000 roster? How much of a gap is there between our current roster and their current roster? 3) What does Akron need to do to become a "premier" mid-major like Butler is now?

how can they be the best overall players when they have never played a collegiate game in their life? It took until the 8th post for someone to be realistic? I caution people about this all the time. It's fun to dream about the future, but it would be just as easy to predict that any of these guys will be a bust as opposed to a star at this point in time. Getting any kind of significant production out of a newcomer in the earlier part of their career is an ABSOLUTE luxury. Even getting some quality play can never be expected. Just look at the various new players that have come and gone from here in the last several years. This year's Zips team was a typical example. We had a lot of new players on the roster, but we had a reasonable expectation of success because of the players that had already played, and what we knew of their proven abilities at this level. The good contributions we got from the new players were a bonus. That's the way it usually goes. The most accurate perspective right now is to imagine what will happen next year with the players who have spent time on the floor, and HOPE for a little extra from some new guys. While I agree that you can't get too excited, I feel like the size and athleticism Treadwell and Harney possess will, at the very least, make them rotation guys next year. Also, Walsh and Gilliam should make easy transitions, as both have practiced with the team all season. I think KD will roll with a 10 man rotation, at least to start the season: 1st Unit C-Marshall F-Cvetinovic F-Diggs G-McClanahan G-Abreu 2nd Unit F-Harney F-Egner F-Treadwell G-Gilliam G-Walsh And If Nik's gone: 1st Unit C-Marshall F-Egner F-Diggs G-McClanahan G-Abreu 2nd Unit F-Euton F-Harney F-Treadwell G-Gilliam G-Walsh As others have previously stated, it will be cool to watch the talent we have compete for PT, and to see KD put together a rotation from what may be the most talented roster he's had in Akron.
-
KD already knows what I wrote. I speak with him frequently. In case you haven't figured it out; it was my advice about cutting back on running so many offensive sets. And, why the snide? I was the one who told him to recruit Zeke. I also told Steve McNees to block the last shot at the MAC Title game. Just kidding... Are you Terry Weigand, or just some ZN poster taking credit for turning around the Zips' season?
-
Progress - Great senior leadership - McNees, McKnight, Roberts, and even Bardo played a significant role in winning the MAC Tournament - Another NCAA Tournament appearance, and a better performance in my opinion (played great, shots just weren't falling) - Zeke Marshall, Alex Abreu, Quincy Diggs, and Brett McClanahan all took great strides forward from the 1st game through yesterday.
-
Has anyone actually seen Walsh, Treadwell, Harney, or Gilliam play?

nice post game article from cbs sports

- I think Notre Dame should be a bit lower of a seed and Akron a bit higher. - It's incredible that Akron only shot 6 free throws in what was a very physical game. - I can't help but think about how much of a missed opportunity this was. Akron has wide open and good looks all day, just couldn't convert on them. -
Returning From This Year's Team C-Zeke Marshall F/G-Quincy Diggs F-Josh Egner F-Dakotah Euton G-Brett McClanahan G-Alex Abreu F-Michael Green Return Uncertain F-Nik Cvetinovic Newcomers F/G-Chauncey Gilliam F-Demetrius Treadwell F-Nick Harney G-Brian Walsh G-Blake Justice G-Deji Ibatayo Let's look to next year...what will this team look like? Who will be the starting five? How good will this team be?
