  1. The "nose bleeds" for the MAC Tournament are the club level. Rarely are the actual nose bleeds in the third tier ever open. It just seems worse, because Akron is the only school that ever brings a decent amount and can't accommodate everyone down low. I'd rather sit in the Akron school allocated sections than not. It makes winning the tourney that much sweeter when celebrating with those fans. Looking forward to tonight!
  2. The student section isn't sold out. Some of the General Admission sections are considered sold out, because of the number of overall General Admission tickets distributed. Creative marketing ploy to create urgency. Students can sit in General Admission if they bring guests; however, only students can sit in the student sections. Students still only need to show up and get their ZipCards swiped for free entry.
  3. My understanding is that only so many Lot 9 season passes were sold, as to give individual game tailgaters a chance to purchase to improve the atmosphere, since the redemption rate on season ticket holders was so bad in previous years. I was told that Lot 10 was a season only lot with the exception of handicapped spots. Regardless, good crowd this past Saturday. I hope it continues the rest of the way, especially with the Saturday games! Go Zips!
  4. This is the school where Matt Newhouse (our new Marketing guy) just left.
  5. Football season tickets are being printed on spiral-bound books this year with parking inside from what I hear. I talked to the ticket office yesterday, and they said they are supposed to be in next week from the printing company. I'm guessing we will receive them the week after. I got my other Alumni tickets too, but those were printed on the standard tickets in house.
  6. I heard Michigan State has offered him as a DB. I can't find anything to substantiate, but I heard from a close family friend who lives in Perry.
  7. Because it looks tacky and sends an inconsistent message. And fans who attend the games are entitled enough as it is. There is no way that somebody who pays to sit in the lower level would willingly sit in the upper level just to use an umbrella. A better emphasis could be made to actively sell Akron ponchos though. I'll say that much in terms of accommodation.
  8. Umbrellas should never be allowed in any venue...ever. Spend the $5 on a poncho, and everyone is happy. Plus, it's a lot less problematic to carry around. Most high school stadiums I've been to this year don't even allow them anymore. Not all have this policy, but most. I get where people are coming from, but there are not enough good reasons to allow umbrellas into venues. If it's a venue policy, then enforce it all the time. That being said, I did overhear a police officer at the Pitt game tell someone they could bring in their umbrella. Consistency is an issue.
  9. The UA ticket office doesn't have any for this event. I don't think any of the other schools got them either, as a friend of mine from CSU said he was told to get them from Can't.
  10. My rep told me last year that they would probably do passes for Lot 1 this year. They still aren't going to charge, but it's supposed to be added perceived value to season ticket holders. Maybe it guarantees a spot in Lot 1 for bigger games?
  11. The announced attendance has always been the number of tickets sold, not the number actually there. Clearly, the were not 16k.
  12. Gate 3 was Pitt's will call. I heard all of their fans complaining about how long the line was. The Akron sellers were actually helping the Pitt representative to speed things up. I wouldn't put this one on the Akron staff. They opened up Gate 2 for sales now, which is nice. That's 3 more sales windows than they had last year. Too bad the weather killed the walk-up crowd.
  13. They are charging admission for the Men's game, so I would assume the Women's game is going to be charged as well. In the past, they have honored the Men's ticket for Women's games of doubleheaders.
  14. Dymonte Thomas is VERY quick. He starts on both sides of the ball as a sophomore. He and Hill make for a backfield that is difficult to match from other Ohio schools, regardless of division. And yes, they will both be back...hopefully we can land one fo them.
  15. Alden Hill? I follow Stark County football closely (mainly Federal League), and here are my thoughts. He is an excellent football player; physical with deceptive speed. Another RB to look out for is Jimmy Luther from Lake. He is a senior this year, but did not receive offers due to a knee injury. He is a smart kid with an enormous amount of talent. Both guys have carried their respected teams to playoff runs so far this year. 16. I was watching the Zips practice today and noticed Valentin in a walking cast. Does anyone know what happened and if this is just a precautionary measure?
  17. You don't know unless you try. It's like asking a good looking girl out for a date. If she says yes, you win. If she says no, you've lost nothing. Well said. Honestly, I would LOVE to see this at least attempted. What is there to lose? Great post, GP1! Let's hope someone out there takes notice.
  18. Love the idea. It makes sense for Wake Forest to utilize this marketing strategy, because they know people will pay to support their soccer program. This would be almost impossible to pull off here, as the monetary support is nonexistent. People think $10 is too expensive to watch a soccer game. I mean, shouldn't everything be free?
  19. Thank you kindly, Max! I've been a serious follower of ZN since I was 16 (about 5 years), but not much of a poster. Looking forward to the start of Fall. As you guys have said, FB season tickets will be mailed tomorrow...expect them to arrive the middle of next week. For the record, I enjoy reading all of your comments on ZN. I love gauging the opinion of Zips fans. Let's hope this Fall has more positive things to write about . Go Zips!!!!
  20. I, too, am greatly anticipating the start of the season. My apologies for offending anyone.
  21. You could find some threads that are passionately negative. This is not one. Take the soap box over to one of those threads. No kidding, Max. I never said this thread was "passionately negative". It's just that I have noticed many members on here complain about anything they can find. We all want UA to be a legitimate competitor in athletics. Support is a necessity, and it is not in place here...that's for sure. Some Akron "fans" need to grow up and realize Akron Athletics don't revolve around them. I'm not saying you or grad, but it's embarrassing to be associated with those Akron "fans" who are plain selfish and ignorant. I understand the emotional attachment and loyalty to a school; therefore, one expects to be taken care of. The fan base has a critical role with building successful athletic programs. But that also means true fan support, not just the criticism.
  22. Funny...they told me the same thing last week. Just curious, but what do you plan to accomplish with this comment? The negativity on ZN.O is starting to get ridiculous.
