  1. All our winning seasons have been in regular blue and gold. And I like Zippy.
  2. Being the 20th or 30th team to go black for black's sake is lame. (Same with gray for gray's sake.) Be creative using the school colors if "new and exciting" is so important. I am not a big fan of the chrome helmet or the Z logo look but I get that the players like them. So go gold chrome with a blue Z. Do something flashy with gold on a blue jersey. (Maybe chrome gold cloth is possible?). Or even a gold jersey with blue accents. By the way, I really like the white helmet with white uniform look, even with the Z logo. Colors mean something. There ought to be an emotional response in the teams followers to them. Once the fad dies, black or gray is not going to do it even for those that get excited about it now.
  3. OU colors being white and green -- our colors being blue and gold. One of my points, exactly. (OU joined the black for black's sake bandwagon before we did.) Once you start wearing fad colors you lose all identity except for being another copycat.
  4. Pride in the school. Pride in being Akron. If wearing blue and gold does not mean something to us then we might as well wear OU jerseys. They have nicer black ones.
  5. The game would be Buffalo's Senior Night (if they have such a thing). I expect they would push to play it. They are scheduled to play at UMASS the day after Thanksgiving so that day looks to be out. Moving to this Saturday would allow them to get in Senior Night and keep their last date. Then moving Akron's last game to the next Saturday would work for the host team and make it easier for more Akron fans to attend.
  6. Ouch! Things seemed to be going in a positive direction and this year was a big step back. I really enjoy going to the matches. The players seemed to play hard all the way through. I wish we could get a little more size - seems like we are always up against taller and stronger opponents.
  7. Enjoy the City Centre - and hopefully the game too!
  8. I could deal with the weather. After a dozen years of going to almost every home game and a few on the road, I could deal with the on-field performances. But the BG game was the last weeknight game for me. I have a life outside of InfoCision Stadium/Summa Field and weeknight games are just not worth it. I expect this will be my last year as a season ticket holder if next year's schedule is anything like this year's.
  9. I'm increasingly less excited too. Week night college football. Big deal about wearing a non-school color color which won't matter anyway because people will be bundled up in whatever color warm stuff they have. I know the team deserves better but I am really having to fight myself to even go.
  10. Sometimes I look at what goes on in and around sports and I get fed up with it all. Then I learn of someone like Coach Peters and I am reminded that there is more good than bad, and what is good is so much better. Prayers go out to his family and friends.
  11. After looking at the schedule with three weeknight games (plus a road game I go to on a weeknight), I was beginning to regret renewing season tickets. Then sitting in the stands as game time approached (though had there been a decent size crowd I am sure I would not have made it from work in time for kickoff), I thought I was glad to have renewed. This morning, after waking up for work at 5 am and feeling terrible (no alcohol last night, either), I would say the chances of renewing next year are going down fast. One game a year on a weeknight might be tolerable but this sort of schedule is ridiculous. Makes me long for Saturday nights at the Rubber Bowl.
  12. I wondered about that at first too, but he did better than the stats show. He made some good plays. At least two goals were follow ups after he made good saves that left him on the ground. He had very little help back there. Also, Akron's keeper rarely got challenged so it would be hard to give it to him. I didn't see Hartwick play. WVU didn't earn it. Not much to choose from when the tournament has only three matches.
  13. Not necessarily true that almost everybody is not working, at least when it comes to alumni. Expect two regrettably empty seats in section 108 from me.
  14. It was at least the first two choices. I actually was impressed that as many fans as did sat in the rain and stayed the whole game. Not that is was crowded but given the score and the attendance (or lack thereof) in good weather, I expected more to leave. It was warm though. Had it been cold it would really have been miserable. (Seems like losing 43-3 no longer generates misery. Like I told my wife, who sat through it all and did not even complain, it has happened so much i am just numb to it now .)
  15. Oops - wrong. Went from faulty memory. There is dark blue background behind the lighter blue letters and then the lighter blue extends back. Still, there is a reason for the lighter color but it can look odd. Gold zipper would be nice.
  16. The lettering inside the blue is darker blue to match the uniform color. i agree the lighter blue threw me at first but I can see the reason for it. I like the idea of a gold zipper on a white (or blue) helmet. Then use dark blue inside the zipper and gold lettering.
  17. Totally disagree. For one thing, we have been the Zippers for a long time. The combination of Zips and zippers and kangaroos is just the way we are. The design is unique without being a stretch. It plays to the nickname's heritage. I thought it looked good from the stands and the words give a reason for the "zipper" to be open and also tie back to heritage. When I first saw the tease about a change I thought zipper stripe (so did others, I know) but wasn't sure what it would look like when actually executed. I thought they pulled it off well. In fact, I would like to see ball caps that mimic the helmet produced for sale.
  18. The band seems to be the most positive tradition. People get in to clapping along with Win for Akron and The Akron Blue and Gold as the band does its pre-game performance. Zippy gets a lot of attention too. The fan walk with the players is a nice idea but doesn't get much fan participation. When Infocision Stadium opened they tried to get fans to do a "U-A" with their arms to music (can't remember the name of the tune) similar to what tOSU does with Hang on Sloopy and "O-H-I-O" but there are only a few of us diehards still doing it.
  19. I bought a jersey from jerseys4sale.net a couple of years ago and did not have a problem. I had it customized with a number and it looks good. I also bought one from the team shop but jerseys4sale gives you more choice and the jerseys seem to be the same quality. By the way, I was just looking at gozips.com for a link to the team shop to see if they had the jerseys available online and I could not find a link. I have seen it there before so I am not sure if I am just blind today or it has been moved/removed. Mark
  20. I think those penalties aimed at preventing blows to the head need to go both ways. When a ball carrier lowers his head so far that the defender cannot help but hit his head they ought to call the penalty on the offensive player for leading with his helmet.
  21. I've been conflicted about this ever since the naming rights for the stadium were granted. On the one hand, I absolutely detest telemarketing. On the other hand, Infocision puts a lot of money into things like the UA stadium. The stadium in Copley is another one they put money in. I justified it to myself by thinking that the money they spend on the community pays for the annoyance factor of how they earn it. That was before I learned that they lie about how much the charities are getting. That part I cannot gloss over. I have a steadfast rule that I never EVER respond with a commitment to a telemarketer call. Even if I know it is coming directly from a group I support I insist that they mail or email me information and I will decide at my own time whether to respond or not.
  22. Rooting FOR, because... Local team. MAC team. Large number of local players.
  23. I was impressed with the speed at which the offense operated early, the relatively few mistakes like offsides and illegal procedure and the form used in open field tackling. Also, the o-line played a lot of plays (same guys playing for both sides) and made it through ok.
  24. This year was a step backwards as far as Akron qualifying goes. I hope it does happen. I made it to a few games this year. I`ve also been to a few UH games (men`s and wahine) in the past. Akron doesn`t get the crowds Hawaii gets but the enthusiasm on the floor is there. More people ought to check it out next year. Plus the price cannot be beat. There does seem to be a small contingent of loyal followers. Also there are usually some UA athletes from other sports. It seems like (to a casual observer, anyway) the school works at encouraging the teams to support each other.
