  1. If Akron defeats Marquette, and St. John's defeats Virginia, would we be hosting the Sweet 16 match?
  2. Another road team wins on PKs in George Mason 4-2...
  3. Just watched the PKs of the Providence-Penn match, and the Providence GK saved 3 of 4 pks to win 3-1...He also pulled a Diego Restrepo if anyone knows what i mean...Penn students behind the goal were going crazy...thank goodness there was a net across the back of the goal area in front of the students, or there would of been a player-fans brawl...never seen Ivy League kids that mad before
  4. Another intriguing storyline about the seedings and matchups. Nine schools from the DC/MD/VA are in the field. The College Cup is in Philadelphia. NCAA perception of $$$$ first lives on. Not hard to put two and two together.
  5. The first half, the Lady Zips outplayed Dayton(Zips led 45-41 at half). And other than an 18-4 run early in the 2nd half, Akron had their way with Dayton. The final score was not an indication of that game(went back and watched it). I post a lot about the Lady Zips for a few reasons. 1) Where this program is right now compared to when Kest took this program over? Many students I know think that reason alone is why Kest is a better coach than KD. 2) Just like the men's team, the recruiting classes keep getting better and better for the women's team. They now have a 5'11 point guard recruit coming in. Not many women's teams have a 5'11 point guard. 3) The style of play. Just as a fan watching, it just puts me in pain myself, watching the men's team laboring for points here and there. Then, watching the women's team, and if you turn your head for a minute, you might of missed 3-4 buckets by the Lady Zips. As a fan, I prefer watching the women's. As a coach, each style(or some call it "system") has it's advantages and disadvantages. 4) The only way a team is beating this Lady Zips team is if you play up-tempo like them, and get them to turn the ball over and get easy transition points. Lady Zips beat two teams by an average of 108-70 (that are supposed to win or be top 3 in their respective conferences), that base their program on defense(I can even post the links to prove it). I understand there's people on this board and people not on this board that don't care about women's basketball. That's fine. I'm a basketball junkie. I'll walk down a street and see kids playing 3 v 3 , 4 v 4, or 5 v 5(whatever it may be that day), and stop to watch it for a bit. Basketball is just basketball. To me, it doesn't matter who is playing it, but HOW you play it. I just wonder what this board would be like if the men's team was averaging 98.0 PPG through 3 games(that included a top 25 team).
  6. Louisiana-Lafayette wasn't too far off either...played toe-to-toe with Ball State and Northern Illinois as well. If everything would of went our way late in those games, we may be 8-3 right now(At least 6-5).
  7. Five High school seniors have signed NLI today for Akron women's basketball program for class of 2014. Two from Northeast Ohio(1 from Cleveland and one from Austintown), two from Michigan, and one from Missouri. 2014 Lady Zips recruiting class
  8. Before it gets deleted for this season's stats, here's the stats from last season. . Lady Zips starting this season like last season never ended. I'm sure Kacie Cassell will improve on this stat as well this season. As for their opponent friday, here's Dayton HC Jim Jabir talking about his Flyers' team(and about 30 seconds of Akron) :
  9. Don't even get me started on inbounding the ball in the half-court. Looked a lot easier with Zeke, but now without him. Wow, is it scary bad
  10. Next up: AT #14(AP Poll)/#16(Coaches' Poll) Dayton, Friday night at 7:00pm.
  11. Tennessee Tech was picked to win the Ohio Valley Conference, and the final score of 118-71 was not even an indication of how embarrassing this game was for the Golden Eagles. If our starters played the whole game, the Lady Zips could of put 130 up EASILY...150 might of been doable...
  12. On my way to go get some breakfast. I'm going to go watch some up-tempo, entertaining basketball at 10:30am. Tired of this grinding, pounding, half-court basketball. We have the athletes to play more up-tempo, but we don't play up-tempo. Don't tell me we tried, with the pressure full-court. There's other ways to help the tempo of the game. Just watch the women's team play, and you'll see what I mean. The men's team weaknesses right now is the women's team strengths. Free throws aren't that hard. Even at 4am in the morning.
  13. Oswho is in a whole rebuilding phase down in Cowlumbus. Someone told me their current coach would of recruited Plybon really hard, but he wasn't there during her recruiting, and Foster wouldn't even consider DIII or DIV players in Ohio. They're trying to broaden their recruiting in Ohio, but the MAC schools are stepping up. There's another recruit that Akron is going after that may be as good of a recruit as Plybon was for Akron.

  15. I'm so glad I chose to have a night class on tuesdays and thursdays instead of mondays and wednesdays. Getting my work done, sleeping early, and getting up to watch Akron at 3am. Then, going to Denny's(or IHOP) for breakfast, and off to Lady Zips game at 10:30am. Great change from the norm for this college student !!!!! I'd like to see how our point guard play and center play is for the game. Ironically, those positions used to be the cornerstone of any basketball program/franchise. Hopefully Evans/Betancourt can play solid and Harney/Q play to their capabilities. No long lapses, or this game will be over.

  17. Lady Zips play a really good Tennessee Tech team on Tuesday at a weird tip-off time. Overall, just a weird tip-off time for both Akron basketball teams that morning(MBB: 3am ET, WBB: 10:30am ET). Need a solid outing and win on Tuesday to get the momentum when playing #14 Dayton that Friday.
  18. GoZips was mentioning something Z.I.P. said in his post. Z.I.P. has edited his post and is no longer in his post. That's why it looks like GoZips was stating something about nothing.
  19. Lady Zips defeat Lake Erie College 97-43. Player-Total Points- Best other stat Luburgh- 22 points in 24 minutes- 6 rebounds(4 assists) Tecca- 20 points in 23 minutes- 8 rebounds(5 assists) Plybon- 14 points in 25 minutes- (6-10 FG) Brown- 9 points in 16 minutes- 3 rebounds(2 assists) Ricketts- 8 points in 16 minutes- 5 rebounds Young- 7 points in 17 minutes- 4 rebounds Nunan- 6 points in 14 minutes- 3 rebounds(2 assists) Gibson- 5 points in 21 minutes- 7 rebounds(3 assists) Cassell- 2 points in 18 minutes- 4 assists Barilla- 2 points in 10 minutes- 1 assist Scipio- 1 point in 11 minutes- 2 rebounds(1 assist) Simone- 1 point in 6 minutes- 1 steal
  20. You can still get an idea on what the rotation could be for the regular season in these exhibition games. Also gives you a chance to see the true freshmen play that most likely will get red-shirt to give you what the future holds for the program as well.
  21. Lady Zips up 41-19 at the half over DII Lake Erie College. Coach Kest not happy with the defensive effort according to the radio call. - Hannah Plybon got the start. I knew she was going to be good enough to start as a true freshman, but thought this early in her career that Coach Kest might of went with a sophomore to start. Only exhibition, so possibly just starting her today to see what she could contribute. Minutes/Points/Rebounds/Assists in first half: Luburgh -16/16/1/2 Tecca- 15/14/4/2 Cassell- 15/0/0/3 Plybon- 14/4/1/1 Young- 10/1/4/1 Gibson- 10/0/2/2 Brown- 7/2/2/2 Nunan- 5/2/0/0 Barilla- 4/2/0/0 Ricketts- 4/0/0/0 Guyton- 0/-/-/- Simone- 0/-/-/- Scipio- 0/-/-/-
  22. I don't know which nickname I rather have...The RubberDucks or the Pelicans?
  23. Exactly, and with the new rules and the 10 second backcourt violation finally in effect for women's hoops, that will help this team score MORE points. They're a very good FT shooting team, and also can pressure at times. With Tecca as healthy as she's ever been, this team can be so scary(if everyone else stays healthy), you may see them scoring 80, 90, and even 100 points on a regular basis this season. Cassell had complete command of that offense last season, and with one last full offseason for her senior season, I expect her to average close to 10 assists per game, if not more.
  24. Lady Zips marketing theme for 2013-2014 Here's their media day press conference: One big note is Sina King is out for the season with an injury. It will be hard to replace her consistent double-double numbers this season, but there's some younger players that can hopefully combine to give the numbers King was projected to get this season. Expect Anita Brown to start in the Taylor Ruper starting spot in the rotation. I expect Plybon to be contending for quality minutes mid-MAC season. Kest seems to like Scipio, but with Cassell and Barilla at that position, she probably won't see much time this season on the floor.
  25. I probably shouldn't of mentioned it, but from people that know former assistant coaches and players that they still are in contact with, Porter was upset with him. He wouldn't give Porter the time of day. He would always send one of his assistants to meet with CP on what CP wanted to talk about. I probably went too far with that, just didn't see it that way when I posted it. Just looked at it as a fact, and not a cheap shot. Portland was in theory, the worse job for CP's schemes, philosophy, etc.
