Dayton game - free stream on FSO website

"Airball". He wasn't even close on his first three. He hasn't been close on any of his threes for that matter. They're not letting him forget it either. -
NCAA Tournament Seeding

We may have gotten a tough bracket, but I firmly believe that we're the best team in the country. We have no reason to fear anyone. Let's go out there and win the next five games and do this. I'm ready to lose my voice over the next few weekends and then head to Cali to see the boys pull this off. Go Zips! -
Steve Zakuani - career move?
jem101 replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Looks like the decision has been made.Zakuani via his twitter, "I've accepted an invite from the Congo nat'l team for a game in Paris next week.. tough decision but long wait for US citizenship nailed it!" he followed that up with "If citizenship could have been fast-tracked, probably would have gone with US but happy with my decision.. can't wait to represent Africa!" -
Any news about whether Kofi will be back for this weekend's action?

Wait... Akron has a hockey team? -
I saw this on bigsoccer.com and thought it was funny enough to pass along. Great win tonight. Go Zips!

Akron soccer was featured on Fox 8 tonight. Pretty good stuff here. It's too bad that this team doesn't get more exposure from Cleveland.

I know we went to OT vs Penn State, and we tied OSU, but Creighton is the toughest team we played so far. They played their game and didn't give in to packing it in like a lot of other teams do. I was really impressed with their effort. Especially the first 20 minutes or so, they actually maintained most of the possession with a high pressure defense. As the game went on they did seem to wear down, and by the second half we were dominating possession as usual. I won't mind avoiding them in the Tourney. Of course, with the #1 team, I'm not scared of anyone, but the easier the path the better. As a side note, the pitch was terrible last night. There were players slipping all over the place, and Meves had a couple close calls. I hope that doesn't cost us a goal come tournament time.

Did they not travel together as a team? I have no idea, but that's what the poster on the Creighton board said. You would think they all would have traveled together. Maybe their team flight was cancelled and there was only room for part of the team on the next available flight. I don't know. There were some pretty bad storms in Chicago yesterday though.
-
According to the Creighton board, supposedly half the team got stuck in Chicago last night. I'm pretty sure they all made it in, but this has to be disruptive for them. Creighton's coach has said he's going to try to go toe to toe with Akron and not pack it in. That hasn't worked for Tulsa and Michigan this year. I'm thinking 4-1 Zips.
-
I know, I was thinking the same thing. I love how in the interview he ignores Ian and Cody's question about how can Louisville be #1 when they've played an inferior schedule, tied twice AND tied against OSU at home when our draw against OSU was on the road. They did a good job of shutting him up.

Top Drawer Soccer's editor was in town on Tuesday and got all access video footage. Pretty good stuff here.

Zips Vs. Michigan (soccer)

Your wish has been granted, Butler drew 0-0 against IUPUI whoever that is. They also play Indiana next week in their only legitimate test on their cupcake schedule. -

Zips Vs. Michigan (soccer)

It was their assistant coach with the baseball cap on. I think it was this guy, but I'm not sure. I'm still shocked that a coach would do something like that. Guess we did our job and got under their skin. lol -
Zips Vs. Michigan (soccer)

Awesome game tonight, awesome atmosphere! UM fans made it even more fun with the chants back and forth. I wish more teams would bring fans along. As an aside, when UM was taking pregame shots, us Rowdies were doing our typical thing where we'd keep any loose balls at our feet and kick them away when they'd come to pick them up. The whole activity is harmless, just kinda gets in the other teams head a little bit. Since only half Michigan's shots were on goal, there was quite a line of balls lined up ready to be kicked away. As the Michigan assistant was walking down the line, he got fed up and told me and the guy next to me to knock it off because he was wearing metal cleats. We figured he was just messing with us. As he went to get the ball from the guy to my right it was inevitably kicked away. Without even giving me a chance to kick my ball away he turned and stomped right on my ankle with his cleats. It didn't hurt that bad, but I was in shock! Way to stay classy coach! The Big Ten teams seem to all play dirty and lack class. Thankfully the soccer team got some pay back for us. Great game for the Zips! -

I just got a message from the Rowdies. Supposedly UM is bringing some students along. Should be a great environment. Go Zips! -
Ampai has a 1.7% lead. Does anyone know when the voting ends?
-
How does that work with playing for non-native countries in the World Cup? I'd love to see Zakuani on the USMNT, Us is in desperate need of forwards right now.
-
Switching to the MLS, Seattle is playing Chivas tonight, and through the first half Zakuani has a goal and an assist. He is everywhere on the pitch. Akron also got a shout out from the broadcasters who mentioned that Porter was creating a pipeline to the MLS, and that he has Akron winning by playing the game the right way. Gotta love the love on national tv!

College Soccer News already posted projected brackets. The one thing that stood out, is they have OSWho as the #4 seed, meaning we would potentially play them in the semi-finals. Of course, this is all just wild speculation as we still have a lot of "football" to play. Trying not to look ahead too much, but Santa Barbara and just seems so close. Go Zips!
-
That's why you don't stop playing till the whistle is blown... I'm sure Porter will have something to say about that.

I ran across this article this morning by a Penn State student/fan praising the stealing of the jerseys. Stay classy Penn State. On the topic of blaming the refs and other players for dirty play, it really is starting to get old. Let's be like the players and rise above it all. We're 10-0-1 against the toughest schedule in the country with or without the refs. Go Zips!

Tough win by the Zips. Clearly a penalty that led to the PK. I think it was Nagbe who beat the keeper to the ball at the top of the box. Once he got there he dribbled around the keeper and once the GK realized he was beat, he reached out his arm and tripped him up. The BTN stream was really good. Unfortunately, the camera missed PSU's goal, so I couldn't see if it was offside or not. That's what you'll have with students running the show though.
-
I know I've seen on PSU facebook event pages and on this site that Akron is supposedly sending over a couple hundred fans on buses, but I haven't heard anything from the Rowdies about it. Almost makes you wonder if they're saying that just to get Penn State students to show up. Unfortunately, this one isn't as close as Columbus.
