  1. Just tweeted at the NCAA writer for Goal.com and he said he hasn't seen the full list either. His guess is it will probably turn up tomorrow some time.
  2. I heard that too, I've found one guy from UVA nominated and another from Cal, but haven't found a complete list. It's odd that there isn't anything on the Hermann website about it. I'll keep looking.
  3. I take back what I said about us being the late game. Got a little switched up. I believe we would be the first game, with the 1v4 matchup being the late game.
  4. If you look at the Championship website on NCAA.com, an autograph session is listed after semifinal #1. If we beat Cal and advance to the College Cup, would the Zips take part in the autograph session? Due to the fact that we're the 3 seed we will be playing in the later game. I don't know about you, but I'd rather have the team focused on the match than on signing autographs an hour before the game. The time is listed as TBA. I wonder if they'd have the teams playing in the later game sign after game #2. Either that or earlier in the day.
  5. I would beg to disagree with you. Anthony Ponikvar, the Zips back up goal keeper, writes a blog for gozips.com. In one of his blog posts he wrote, Clearly, wearing other schools gear around campus does have an effect on the players. If you go to UA you should show a little pride in your school. It's not really to hard to ask. Please cite specific evidence of this. Isn't that what I did when I quoted Poni?? What more can you ask for?
  6. I bought a white one at the beginning of the season from the team shop. Wish there had been blue ones available then. The white is so thin that you can see right through it. Always have to have an undershirt. Last night I wanted to wear a blue long sleeve tee under the Jersey, so I had to wear my blue tee with a short sleeved white tee over that followed by the actual jersey. Kinda a pain.

  8. Just started watching, but seriously Louisville. Cheerleaders?? Definitely not a soccer thing.
  9. Can we please stop discussing rumors on here till after the season is over. Right now, I don't care about what's going to happen after the season. All that matters right now is that the Zips take care of Indiana tomorrow. Key match up tomorrow is definitely Zarek v. Will Bruin. Bruin is 6'2" and 194 pounds. I saw him on the B10 network earlier this year when IU took on UCLA and he is a beast. He really physical and should give our back line all they can handle. Indiana averaged 1.66 goals a game in the regular season and gave up 1.39 goals a game. Their defense seems to be very suspect. Their keeper is Luis Soffner. He has some ties with the NE Ohio region. He played his freshmen and sophomore years with St. Ignatius and he played with the Cleveland Internationals. Indiana is an extremely dangerous team when they're on the top of their game, but they are very inconsistent. They were 9-7-2 this season. My prediction is 4-2 Zips with Bruin doing his best to keep this one close.
  10. Due to the fact that I brought some cousins who were in town for the holiday, I ended up sitting in GA instead of the student section. It really is a lousy atmosphere up there. You want to stand up and be loud, but it almost seems like that is frowned upon. I was standing for that possession where the Rowdies were chanting stand up. One thing that I think hurts fan participation is that due to the split student section, both sides are chanting different things. That makes it difficult to get any sort of cheer going that the fans would be able to join in on.
  11. This isn't a draft projection, just a big board. Big Boards simply rank the players potential and talent at the next level. It doesn't factor in who is drafting where and what their needs are. For example, a couple years ago, Michael Crabtree was #1 on Mel Kuiper's NFL big board when everyone knew that the top team in the draft wasn't going to take a WR with the first pick. With regards to that other projection, I highly doubt Ampai will be the first person taken in the draft. I had to leave the game Sunday early and the color commentator on 1350 was saying that Nagbe was the best college player he had ever seen. Can't remember the commentator's name, but he was a former UA player.
  12. Soccer by Ives just posted their MLS big board.. Zips dominate the top 8 spots with 5 out of the top Eight spots. Nagbe is #1, then spots 2-3 are non-Akron players. Spots 4-6 are, in order,Kitchen, Kofi, and Zarek. Mattocks clocks in at #8. Ampai and Nanchoff are both on the list, but a ways down. SBI does go on to say in the footnotes that Kitchen and Mattocks are both likely to stay at Akron for another year, but if UA wins the Cup this year there's a good chance that there will be a mass exodus after this season. Pretty ridiculous how much talent this team has. Hopefully that translates into a National Championship. I know that personally I'd trade losing those top six guys for any day of the week.
  13. Come on. Let us enjoy it while it lasts. For a few days, at least, we can the Zips are a top-ten calibre team. Now, next season we might be able to say that all season long and not be lying once our secret weapons join the team. I've just heard snippets about these guys. Who are they, where'd they come from and how good are they supposed to be?
  14. This has become a regular feature of the 2010 Zips men's soccer team. What gives? This was not a one time event. It has happened repeatedly costing the Zips a win at OSwho and an embarrassing loss at Cleveland State. It took the shine off a nice win in the MAC tournament when Western Michigan scored a quick goal late in the game and the Zips up three-nil. And, Root, it did happen at OSwho and Cleveland State. So ... where is the problem? We pretty much know that David Meves was the architect of the OSwho debacle. Can he be blamed for the other games? Is it the defender line, the midfielders, the attackers or a combination of any and all of them going to sleep? I wonder. What ever it is; it is ugly. I think what happened last night was different than what happened against OSU and CSU. In those games, it wasn't a matter of sleepwalking because we were up three and prematurely celebrating a victory. In those games, we were in a dogfight the whole time. This game, I think we just got a little ahead of ourselves, which won't happen again. When the game was actually in question we dominated. BTW: What's up with Scott Caldwell? Doesn't score a goal all year, and in three post season games he has three goals. Definitely not going to complain!
  15. Dartmouth and Brown are the two that definitely stand out the most. MSU wasn't seeded, but the Big Ten is the top conference this year.
  16. SMU over Creighton in PKs.
  17. I was thinking the same exact thing while watching. Can't wait!
  18. WVU up 3-2 with a little over 10 left. WVU with two guys with yellows. Do FIFA rules apply with getting red cards? Would one of the WVU guys be out against Akron if they picked up another yellow?
  19. If you want to check out our possible opponents, NCAA.com is streaming the Xavier- WVU match here.
  20. I was very critical of Brett. I'm thinking that this will hurt us a little bit this year, but in the long run it may be a major plus. The freshmen will get more playing team and the Zips will be much better next year because of it.
  21. McKnight suspended indefinitely according to Ohio.com. Guess this is why we saw Euton on Tuesday.
  22. I want to say I heard that exact same quote about last year's team... Unfortunately, we're probably going to be losing more than three starters. I would say at least Korb, Ampai, Nagbe, Kofi, and Valentin are gone. But let's not worry about that right now. The next five games are all that matter at the moment. One of the things to remember is that all of our poor performances came after dominant performances. CSU after the 7-1 beat down of Michigan and OSU after the 4-0 victory against Tulsa on national TV. I think they can be attributed to lack of focus and cockiness. I would like to think that neither of these will be an issue in the tourney. Porter will have these guys focused and ready to play dominant football. I think that we will look back and see the imperfections in our record will in the long run help the Zips in their quest for a championship. That being said, I'm not buying plane tickets till we get there. Poor college students can't afford to take risks in a sport where anything can happen.
  23. Haven't heard any "airball" chants in a while. Great half for McNees.
  24. Four on Zeke. Ouch!
  25. Zeke's two fouls are killing us. McClanahan is our only offensive weapon at this point.
