I know people hate Cleveland-Akron comparisons. But Cleveland's main 3 sports franchises have had 17 different coaches combined since 1999. And that's not including interim coaches. Browns have had 6, Cavs 7, and Indians 4. Talk about stability in Northeast Ohio!

How is Turner any different than people like Bradon Weeden who waited until they're like 24-25 to play college football? It happens all the time, when an athlete tries a sport like baseball, doesn't work out and then plays football instead. I'm sure if Turner went to a big school he'd have no problem getting 4 years of eligiblity, especially if he never saw the field at any school other than Akron.

Well there's no chance we could sign someone like him. Can he transfer to a FBS school without sitting out if he gets kicked off the team? If so I could see him landing at another BCS school.

I hope this move backfires and Illinois is terrible for the next two years. Couldn't stand him at OU and him ditching them for money just shows the kind of person he is.

Zeke plays better against centers close to his height. So wouldn't we want this guy to play??

I know it's tough to tell without pads, but it seems like the team will be very unimpressive this year...

Sorry for bringing up this old thread again. But, it looks like they will be wearing the same JD/RI uniforms this season. This past week they were shooting the intro videos at the stadium and the photos showed players in the usual uniforms. Not that it's really important, but I'm kind of disappointed. I understand that we aren't exactly swimming in cash but you'd think UA would want to do everything we could to forget the past 3 years... I would say if Akron were a bigger school we'd have a better chance of the NCAA helping out, but being a midmajor I think it's unlikely he'll get to play next season. Like others have said, they had no problem helping Pitt out.

Well I think anyone can help. Back to the penalties, this is no more than a slap on the wrist. I feel like an athletics-wide problem should receive very, very serious penalties. I'm not sure this will hurt them too much, especially not enough to lose to us.

What are they going to report about in athens? the leaves changing colors, farmlands for sale, tumbleweed reports? yawn.

...and STO is disappointed about the Tribe's ratings this season, wait til they get the results on this crap! bahaha

KD should try to recruit some players from the bball team, mainly Keith Clanton mentioned in the article. A 6-9 senior who averaged 14+ points and 8 boards a game?

Situations like this should never be taken lightly. Probably/hopefully just some kid who was angry at the time and just needed to vent.

I used to live in Erie and Gannon is a decent D2 school, member of the PSAC. They made a nice run a few year back and I believe they were close to the final 4. Jodi Kest actually coached their women's team before being hired by UA. Similar to the commuter school UA used to be, just about 1/5 the size. You really don't get a sense of being on campus, just seemed like a few buildings mixed in with normal downtown businesses. Small gym that seats about 3000, but are usually one of the top 1-2 teams in the conference as far as attendance.

2 for 1 against Ohio State, mainly because that gives us 3 chances to beat them. Doubt we will, but it would be nice to shut up the Suckeyes fans.

I believe I read an article he wrote about the extension too (unfortunately no link). But he did indirectly reference LBJ and how the connection could help get the arena built. Mentioned plenty of "swooshes" and it having the best of everything. But what I feel like is that it's more of speculation, since we haven't heard these kind of rumors from anyone else. For one I don't think Lebron cares all that much about UA as Zips fans like to think. Especially not enough to shell out millions of dollars for an arena. Over the past few years he's shown much more support for schools like UK and the Suckeyes.

....same thing everyone said last year. I know a lot of us a homers, but like I've said every year we think we can do better than the last. But really we never live up to the Zipsnation expectations.

It happens every year, and we always have the same old "We'll be so much better next year" attitude. This is why I am expecting a slow start, it always happens no matter how "good" we think the team is. We ALWAYS play to the level of our competition and head into MAC play hovering around a .500 record, I see no reason why this season will be any different.

Well that's not their arena. It may be right across the street, but Pitt also has a designated locker room and the building belongs to the Penguins and to some extent the arena football team. It would be like the Zips using the Q.

I had read somewhere that Moore was listed on the depth chart as 3rd string. Don't know how accurate that was, since I didn't think they had depth charts figured out yet. Don't know anything about Williams, but honestly I see him as the Jake Delhomme of this season. An older guy who no one really wants, knows the offense and will only be around for the first year of a new regime, at most while younger/better QB's develop. Only difference is Delhomme actually had success before he ended up with the Browns

I think KD is a great coach, but I agree that he probably wouldn't have been at Duquesne very long. It's not his fault, just that I don't think the same factors would be around him to succeed. They are in a state of desperation, which is why they went after him so many times. They just recently had to shut down a few key sports, including baseball. The way I see it the only thing keeping their athletic department afloat is basketball, and after decades and decades of poor play it's bound to catch up with them. The desperation would cause them to make the KD-era end at the first sign of trouble. Not to mention they aren't going anywhere. A10 is their ceiling! They aren't getting a new arena, because they can't afford it. The school isn't get any bigger, because they don't have the room. While a new conference, arena, facilities, etc may not happen at Akron, I'm sure he got assurance that we are at least trying. Duquesne could not offer anything more than a slightly better conference.

Maybe they aren't healthy, but they are places people want to eat at. Do you think by building 10 vegan restaurants around campus it will force students to eat healthy? Chances are they will just drive further to go eat good food. I think with all the alcohol and other recreations students enjoy in college, I don't think a greasy burger is going to do much damage. They have the rest of their lives to worry about their health...
