I think KD is a great coach, but I agree that he probably wouldn't have been at Duquesne very long. It's not his fault, just that I don't think the same factors would be around him to succeed. They are in a state of desperation, which is why they went after him so many times. They just recently had to shut down a few key sports, including baseball. The way I see it the only thing keeping their athletic department afloat is basketball, and after decades and decades of poor play it's bound to catch up with them. The desperation would cause them to make the KD-era end at the first sign of trouble. Not to mention they aren't going anywhere. A10 is their ceiling! They aren't getting a new arena, because they can't afford it. The school isn't get any bigger, because they don't have the room. While a new conference, arena, facilities, etc may not happen at Akron, I'm sure he got assurance that we are at least trying. Duquesne could not offer anything more than a slightly better conference.

Maybe they aren't healthy, but they are places people want to eat at. Do you think by building 10 vegan restaurants around campus it will force students to eat healthy? Chances are they will just drive further to go eat good food. I think with all the alcohol and other recreations students enjoy in college, I don't think a greasy burger is going to do much damage. They have the rest of their lives to worry about their health...

More reason for us to get out of the MAC...asap!

$400,000? Is it just me or does that seem a bit low? I get that it's 80,000 more than before. But didn't the crap school in Pittsburgh say something like 700k? Guess in their case it's easier when basketball is the only sport they have.

Well the verizon store was a dumb idea to begin with. I would say almost all college students already have phones, and people don't go to a phone store unless they need to buy a phone. Even if you need a charger or case, the prices at any walmart or best buy are much cheaper. Not to mention cell phones are a major commitment financially. It would be like a Car Dealership opening on on the corner of exchange/grant. How much business would they get??

Zips QB Clayton Moore will transfer
akzipper replied to GeorgeThomasABJ's topic in Akron Zips Football
I don't know if Moore would have been able to win us games, but I do bet he is better than Dalton Williams. I feel bad for him for what went down last season, but really don't think this transfer should be making so many people, so negative. -
One would hope this is the case. But I think most of us are getting ahead of ourselves. We don't even have an official announcement that he is a Zip, and even if he is I doubt he will be suiting up next year.
-
In all honesty, I doubt that we could even play a close game against Tennessee's second teams. If I'm a Vols fan, I wouldn't be too worried...
-
Agreed. Also people really shouldn't worry about Harney or Tree losing playing time, because in reality the transfer would just be taking his minutes right? I think we'll have a solid rotation, just need that one guy to step up and be a leader. It's something we've lacked for a long time, is someone who will completely take charge of the offense.
-
I'm wondering how strong we would be with Zeke, Tree, and Forsythe on the floor at the same time....
-
Why not just have him play football, has to be an improvement over what we have right?

I don't know if anyone posted this article

Wouldn't mind seeing Egner or Justice transfer out. Nothing against them, I just think the rest of the team can contribute more, and would be tougher players to lose. Only reason I would like to keep Deji is that I've heard he has a lot of potential.
-
After last season, I've been a bit worried about Harney. Not by a lack of effort, at some points he just didn't seem happy at Akron. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but he seemed like someone who could someday want to transfer. I would just hate to lose a contributor from last year, like Harney or Tree. For a transfer from WVU that may not pan out...
-
Just remember a lot of people were excited about Dakotah Euton..obviously a different kind of player, but still remember that just because they transferred/decommited from a big school doesn't mean they will pan out...
-
Maybe the NCAA granted Akron a hardship waiver for having such a terrible football team? I just hope we don't lose a key player, just so the new transfer can get a scholarship. As long as Zeke, Harney, Tree, Abreu, and Melo are here, I will be okay...

Zips in the MLS, NASL, USLPro 2012 Season Thread

Thanks to a slow sports night...highlights of the game were on sportscenter right after the ESPYS. Pretty cool hearing Mattocks 2x... -
I think most people are that way about Pizza places. Either love or hate a place. I'm in the minority that I actually hate pizza, so really don't have an opinion. I'm wondering if most businesses owners will see it as a risky place. Of course it will packed during the fall and spring semesters, but how much business will they really get during the summer and winter breaks? Would people employed downtown walk that far? How many people are around campus all year? Some places i'd like to see there would be chick-fil-a, ColdStone, KFC, Swensons, or some kind of Chinese place. Please no more Subways....

It all starts with a new big time arena...it's as simple as that. Not some rinky dink BGSU Staph Center that seats 500 people
-
Just like all of the Suckeye fans were yelling for the Cavs to take Sullinger at 4, I will be yelling for them to take Zeke next year!! Obviously not with our lottery pick, but I would take him in the second round no doubt. Just imagine how this team would be if Zeke just went nuts this year...an Anthony Davis type year...

Top 144 Men's Basketball Teams for 2012-2013
akzipper replied to Dave in Green's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Playing to the level of competition and starting the season slow. While the two are probably one in the same, it just seems like we're hovering around .500 when we get to MAC play. Without being on the inside, we'll never know why it happens. But I sure hope they can find a way to shake the trend... -

Didn't everyone say the same thing last year? and the year before... We may be the best team in the MAC, but we play to the level of our competition. -

What does a football playoff mean to the MAC?
akzipper replied to psc2009's topic in Akron Zips Football
Exactly, a playoff means nothing to a team that is averaging 1 win per season... -
2013 verbal: QB Ed Stockett
akzipper replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
You'll have to check to see if his Baseball team was actually good. A lot of times you hear about multi-sport athletes, they don't mention how successful they are at the "other" sport. Also, Jhonny Peralta is proof that you don't have to be agile to play SS. If that pig can, anyone can. It seems like 90% of Bowden's recruits so far look to be the "diamond in the rough" type. The chances of even a few of them panning out isn't very good.
