  1. Why don't you take a time out there? is Pat Shurmur coaching this team?? worst clock management
  2. this is freaking embarrassing. We'll lose, WMU has 20 seconds to make a shot. Not very difficult and with all these ticky tack calls don't be surprised to see them at the line.
  3. Well this has completely ended our chances at joining anyway. They wanted 12 teams, and I think that's what they will have now. or is it only 11? For basketball they are still one of the best, but really for football you have Louisville, Cincy, UConn, Boise, and USF. All the rest are mediocre. Not an impressive conference, but really it was our ONLY potential move to an AQ. As much as I would like to see a move to CUSA, I never see that happening. Now I agree with most thinking the NCAA should create a final conference taking the best of the rest. Made up of about 12-14 teams. East Akron ECU Southern Miss Tulsa Tulane Marshall Temple West Wyoming Colorado State Hawaii UNLV New Mexico Fresno State Utah State Everyone else drops to FCS
  4. This should be a discussion about Tressel at UA, something I approve 100%. I honestly don't care about his past, we need to be talking about what he can do FOR US. He is not a bad person, has good intentions, and shares the same vision of UA with LP.
  5. A mediocre C-USA school with mediocre facilities? no thanks
  6. What "distraction" has Tressel been to us? Because his press conference was right after a very poor signing class? Because he's taking an administrative position that has nothing to do with athletics? Because he wants to see students and UA succeed?
  7. As I've said a million times, it's not a jealousy towards OSU it's their annoying obnoxious fans most of us cannot stand. They carry the idea with them that since they live in Ohio it automatically makes them a diehard fan of that team. They go to walmart and buy a piece of crap jersey and all of a sudden they turn into a complete a-hole and this allows them to talk smack on my school, Akron, when they have never actually stepped foot in an OSU classroom. The whole "akron doesn't count" attitude that has plagued northeast ohio, is the reason we hate them.
  8. I agree it is a good example to go off, but create a more modern version. I hate arena's that don't have video scoreboards at center court. Doesn't initially seem like a big deal, but it isn't like football where there are stoppages in play allowing fans to watch replay on an endzone scoreboard. You get caught watching a replay on a screen similar to that at Ryan Center you could miss a lot, not to mention 2 sections adjacent to it are at a disadvantage. Also reason #1,001 of why the Staph Center at BG is crap.
  9. I was just reading up on Bobby Bowden. If what I read is true, he started working at FSU when he was 53? Kind of funny that Terry is starting at Akron in his mid 50s as well. I'm not saying this could happen but can he win over 200 more games at UA to pass his dad? haha thats only what 16 undefeated seasons? I can dream right?
  10. My ideal location would be east of infoCision, at the corner of Exchange and Goodkirk. Having it sit right next to the stadium would be similar to TheQ and Progressive Field, Gateway District in Cleveland. Create a nice plaza between for vendors and tailgating on gamedays for football and basketball. Not to mention the ticket office and team store at InfoCision could be used for both. I don't think there is anything significant in that area other than Spicer street which I don't think is a huge issue. Not to mention the view of driving down Rt 8 seeing the stadium and arena right ext to each other would be awesome!
  11. I would think the best scenario for UA would be a new arena and conference upgrade. But sadly these are both "athletic" goals, while I feel that he will be more focused on the academic side of things due to his restrictions. Honestly I would love to see UA at least try to appeal the NCAA ruling. I'm not sure if it's even possible to do so, but I feel that even an attempt couldn't hurt since the upside would open up a whole new dimension of possibilities. I know he mentioned the arena, but will the NCAA give us a hard time about that too? since technically it is associated with athletics.
  12. There's too many people posting these hints! We need to hear some specifics haha I'm interested in some of these theories. Obviously they are just based on opinions of what may happen, but I'm curious of what all of this has the potential to become.
  13. UA: Proenza, Tressel, Bowden, Porter, Dambrot Can't: Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young I'd be jealous too...
  14. Ted Curtis is still a vice president. He is in charge of facilities if I remember correctly, directed all the new buildings and pushing for new arena and conversion of the Jar into a practice facility. But that's off topic for this tread. He's still up on the UA website here
  15. Maybe they were talking about that one in Youngstown? that isn't anything special. I commend Tressel for giving them money, but compared to Akron's fieldhouse, it's really nothing...
  16. I think him having a goal to raise money for the new arena might mean the City of Akron is not involved. Just a thought since I honestly don't believe money would be an issue with a joint venture such as that. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if he donated some of his own money to name a club or press level of the new facility. With Ted Curtis, VP of facilites stating he wanted the Jar to be converted to a practice facility and Tressel raising money it looks to be moving in a very positive direction! I know a lot have voiced their opinions on the right way to build. Basketball only, UA only, small, big, on campus, downtown, whatever. I think we just need to look at what UA has done as far as facilities in the past decade. Infocision, First Energy, Stile, Student Union, Rec Center, etc. Everything has been state of the art and first class all the way. I have a lot of confidence they will get an Arena plan together, make it great, and do whats best for UA. My only request. Get it done and it has to be BIG TIME! We are better than the MAC and it's time to show the nation that!
  17. Bowden has come to UA with the attitude that he wants to see the school succeed in every aspect. I don't see any reason why he wouldn't want Tressel to take an administrative job.
  18. I guess technically moving to FCS would mean a conference change... But all joking aside, I always though C-USA was in our future...Big East would have a tough time accepting a 1-win football team ...I still have hopes for an athletic position for Tressel, even though it may be a long shot.
  19. Taking an academic position doesn't really seem like anything that can influence us athletically. Other than a day of publicity what could we really gain? Give it a few weeks and people will forget he even worked there. Not to mention something like that wouldn't seem like a very permanent job. More of a random job just to pass the time, similar to his stay in Indianapolis. More importantly I think this would be even more pointless than that, since at least in Indy he was doing something football related.
  20. Trust me, I've been an Akron fan for a very long time. I'm just sick of all this damn losing in Northeast Ohio. I'm not a troll, just very negative because of that.
  21. I too am not a fan of soccer. I'm not saying I'm not going to support football. If you read my earlier post I stated I will probably be buying season tickets for the first time. All I was saying is Bowden might have to get used to some losing. Yeah and his tournament record is 0-2.
  22. Well he's in Akron now, he might have to get used to losing. Aside from our soccer team we haven't had much luck in the winning department.
  23. I'm interested to see how well tickets have been selling so far. There's obviously no waiting list or fans camping out to buy them, but I sure hope there is a bit of an increase. Anyone hear anything yet? I'm still trying to decide if I want to pick some up or not. I live over two hours away, and it's a bit of a gamble since you never know how the team will be performing.
  24. I won't believe it until I see results on the field. I'm not saying you're wrong, just having a tough time getting excited about recruits with two or less stars that no mediocre schools even want. Accomplishments at FSU and NCState are good and all, but at the end of the day they are meaningless to the Zips...
  25. Now I get all this "a win is a win" but these are no where near quality opponents. These ugly wins against BG, Miami, Ball State, and CMU are scary because we know that this team is a few plays away from losing to these teams. Even though they don't we know it could happen and if we play like this against OU and Can't at home or in the MAC tournament we are going to get smoked! Ugly wins are fine, but every win is ugly it's proof of an unstable team. A team that can beat Mississippi State but lose to Valp, Duquesne, and Buffalo. This is what makes it difficult for our fans to get behind this team, and why no one in the country will take us seriously come March. If people think this type of play will win the MAC, you are in for a rude awakening!
